Is it just me, or does this seem like a bad fit for both Kelly and LSU? I just don't see it. I thought this was a joke at first.

I’m not completely surprised, he tried doing this years ago with the NFL.

I think he's just tired of getting his teeth kicked in by these schools and knows he can't beat them at ND.

This is his opportunity to try to win a National Championship.

BTW - Marcus Freeman is NOT ready to be the head coach at Notre Dame. Two or three more years here then maybe. Maybe. I still don't think ND is a place you cut your teeth as a head coach. Kelly just wrecked that plan. Go out and get Fickell or Campbell. The next 10 years or so depend on it.

Baton Rouge is Catholic. BK is Catholic. LSU wants to win. BK wants to win. I'll be rooting for LSU because I like Kelly and I think he stuck with ND longer than anybody else would have. Nobody worth a damn stays after the Golson and the Frozen Five bs that led to victories being vacated. Nobody screws their coach like ND

LSU does love going north for their best coaches (Saban, Miles, now Kelly), but I agree. I don't see BK being a great fit in cajun country, and LSU won't settle for average after the past 2 seasons.

Here's to hoping he takes Quinn and Del with him.

Or...maybe BK really does want to finish his career at ND and is using LSU for a raise.

Or...Cinci boys reunion with Fickell, Denbrock, Freeman, and Mickens.

What an insane 24 hours.

But if Fickel comes here, doesn't Cinci make Freeman HC?

IDK, I kind of want to see what Freeman's energy can do in recruiting.

It took a championship level coach in BK to age 55 to figure out how to win at ND. I just have a hard time believing someone 20 years younger than that is going to get it done with no experience.

Pass on Fickell. Another "safe" hire who will be what BK was. A guy who racks up wins against average teams but gets blown out time and time again in big games. Swing for the fences (Meyer) or take a chance on a young guy who is an ace recruiter (Freeman) and hope they turn into the next big time coach, largely due to the caliber of recruiting.

I sort of feel like Freeman’s floor is James Franklin while we don’t know what his ceiling is. I say go for it.

Just thought of this. We gotta take some of that money that we didn't pay Kelly and throw it at Balis. We can't forget how big of a piece he has been to our success. I don't want Kelly poaching him.

Same goes for Lance Taylor. Let's give him a nice raise. If he leaves for a HC, then good luck, but I don't want Kelly poaching him.

LSU hires Kelly, ND hires Fickell away from Cincy...they lose their next game, ND gets into playoffs and wins it all w Fickell

Marcus Freeman needs to be the guy and it needs to be announced in the next couple days. The worst thing they can do is announce he is Interm head coach then that leaves the door open for other schools to come calling. If you want to safe our recruiting class Freeman needs to be the guy.

It's not about the recruiting class. It's about getting the right coach and for that, Marcus Freeman is the right choice.

I mean, it is. But it isn't the ONLY thing.

We need to keep what we've got going here. This class and 2023 are the next step to a championship. Seriously I think the 2023 was on shape to be littered with some five star kids especially on D.

I just think that Freeman has the IT factor. Gutsy to hire him? Sure. But continuity and fit is really important. We aren't in a spot where we need some kind of culture change. Our culture is GREAT.

Honestly, I think that is what would make this interesting. If ND can make it clear that the school is at a stage where it's much bigger than a couple coaches by just continuing to build on what it has already, I think it would be promising. Lock up the people that have help take the culture to a new level like Freeman, Elston, and Balis and bring in some exciting new people and this could be big time.

All I'm saying is convince the kids that the decision was the right one by hiring the right guy for the job and keep the train a rolling. We were building something really, really special here. Let's keep it going.

BTW just a tad bit of smoke on an interesting move for OU. The hint was that they may go get a big name "out of spite" of what just happened to them.

Clues lead to...Pete Carroll.

Which doesn't make a ton a sense but would be absolutely hilarious.
