People are upset about Bama but this is egregious. Like completely fucking unjustifiable

I am inclined to agree with the post before yours that they are there to prop up Ohio State for now. Much like the plethora of SEC garbage is there to prop up Bama.

As for Fleck, I suppose he's doing well for Minnesota and they're probably happy on the returns so far. Getting this done gives them insurance since there are already 8 jobs open on November 4th and 3 of those were paying their recently fired head coaches more than Fleck. With Florida and UCLA both possibly warming up, Minnesota has given themselves some financial security here.

Pre pandemic I was pretty high on Campbell and Fleck in relation to potential future prospects for ND HC should BK eventually walk away regardless of the terms. Selling on both now. Maybe either or both manage to actually win something in the next couple of years and we reassess, but for now in that regard one guy stands head and shoulders far above the pack for me. I don't think Fleck's bit could possibly play in the NFL.

7 year extension at Minny.

I grew up next door to Minnesota. He's made them reasonably competitive. They've actually nailed their last couple hires.

Worth remembering that they are a 3rd tier B1G program. If they can give Ohio State or Michigan a game....they are right where they want to be.

Minnesota was a powerhouse before most of us were born. For like a decade. But other than that, Minnesota doesn't keep their best kids in state, they aren't in a great college town...they are surrounded by football deserts with their own little fiefs who rule them.

Minnesota is a really hard job. And he has them respectable. I presume they know he will get a better job offer in the next few years. If he doesnt....well he sorta fits what Minnesota can hope to get.

Very true. Come to think of it, my parents were not born yet during the golden years of the Bernie Bierman Era. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minnesota_Golden_Gophers_football

They were really good in the 60s as well. That was likely due HC Murray Warmuth recruiting black athletes…some out of the south where segregation prevented them from playing D1 football. Minnesota was one of many midwestern & Northern schools to attract black athletes to their campus. Lots of NFL Hall-of-Famers from that era who either played up north or stayed in the south at an HBCU. I remember as a kid looking at the backs of football cards and wondering why so many superstars were relegated to small black colleges despite being an athlete w/ the size & athleticism of what would be considered a 5-star in today’s recruiting world.

I always thought him a charlatan, a flim flam man.

Of course, I was wrong, DEAD wrong about both Scott Frost and Harbaugh. I thought both would hang the moon at their alma maters.

There are a lot of very naive people on this board when it comes to Minnesota. As far as a P5 school, they are about as similar to Notre Dame as the US Olympic teams to the East Germans.

hes done fine at Minnesota. It's not possible to win there. They do have some puzzling losses but he's done what can be expected. He coaches Minnesota, not Penn State.

Tanner Morgan is what posters here imagine Book or Coan is when they are mad at them. Fleck has been hitched to him for what feels like a lifetime and gives them a hard ceiling. He looked decent in 2019 when he had THREE legit NFL receivers but pretty obvious they carried him.

Also to be fair idk if they even have a scholarship RB left. Their room is equivalent of if Kyren was lost WK 1 and we were down to only Estime. Does that mean they should lose to Bowling Green and Illinois? No. But they probably should have had Ls they somehow won this year

Great point about the RBs. He's had some seriously bad luck there. The flipside to that is they haven't brought anyone in to compete with Morgan yet? This dude was recruiting at mid to low tier Big Ten levels at Western Michigan. It made him.

They are what they are. I'm suggesting tapping the breaks on the hype train a bit. He should win something first.

That said, it doesn't look like anything is stopping Wisconsin right now.

It does mean that he's done a lot with little all things considered however... it's Minnesota and he's like a dozen or so games over 500 over five years. I don't think any other coach has done that there in decades. You could say Kill set up UM better than any other coach in memory too and that may be true.

My thoughts: He's probably not the second coming of Nick Saban, but he's clearly a good coach imo.

Not to get off of topic but Look at Jerry Kill's progression in the profession. What a coach. That's a guy who paid his dues and worked his way up. It's a shame his medical condition holds him back from being a full time HC.

Fleck seems to be a very good recruiter, charismatic guy and he builds what appears to be a very positive culture wherever he goes. He was never a coordinator prior to WMU, so it may explain some of the in game management and adjustments that have often been puzzling. That's par for the course with just about everyone, though. I think Fleck, like Franklin, gets the coordinators he needs and delegates. Gives them the freedom to run their side of the ball. Maybe that comes with never having called plays before?

Three really big tests coming for this program. Let's see what happens.

Thought they were way too conservative and it cost them. Again, if this is all good for Minnesota, so be it. However, any bigger program looking invest in this guy might want to think twice. Same goes for Matt Campbell at Iowa State, who also lost again on Saturday.

I think they beat IU on the road but lose to Wisconsin in the finale.

IU is pretty beat up this year, so Fleck should get that one. My Hoosier fan buddy said that they are now down to only 3 offense starters from when they started the season...yikes. I too think/hope that the Minnesota lose to Wisky in the finale.

Rivals has the Minnesota 2022 recruiting class ranked 13th of 14. Only Nebraska is lower. 247 has them 11th of 14 ahead of Maryland, Iowa and Nebraska.

3 verbals from Florida.

IU went downhill as soon as they blew that 14pt lead against Cincy. Minnesota is a lock to win.

Good Lord….Tanner Morgan has yet another year of eligibility?! Didn’t Lou Holtz recruit him to Minnesota back in the mid 1980s?*

*Obvious sarcasm…I realize he transferred w/ Fleck from the Michigan directional school.

He has to be getting to BYU age no?

Talk about a double edged sword. Fleck bumps off Wisconsin which bumps in Iowa. Good program win however you look at it.

Another guy who got an extension and is seemingly staying put.
