I really don’t get what Coan brings? He’s not mobile and his numbers at UW aren’t that great. If Buchner can start let him, you have enough talent where it won’t be a Jimmy ‘07 scenario where your roster is all freshman or garbage.

I know we’ve been talking about a rebuild in other threads. But, if enough guys decide to come back it might make it more intriguing for BK to go get Coan and make another run at it.

Hooker from VT intrigues me.

I’d really like to see what Buchner has during Spring camp before making this decision but I don’t think the staff will have that luxury. I like Coan a little more than what it seems you do but I’m also not convinced that we wouldn’t be, eventually, better off with Buchner getting those reps.

We also start off in the horseshoe for 2022, I’d rather not take a grad transfer for a year and then go ok Buch go play Ohio state in the shoe, good luck. 2 years of Coan doesn’t sound fun to me.

As long as MTA also returns, this gives us the same two deep at DT 3 years in a row. Love it.

The optimism for the position doesn't end there by any stretch.

Cross: lots of game reps for a third stringer, any added size will be a good thing
Mills: looks like a total stud, workload and impact should increase

Aidan K: Lacey is a big guy but Aidan is really the only true NG type body on the roster. Hopefully this season got him into playing shape.
Rubio: shame (for him) that he has so much competition, but he's an instant impact type talent ala mills

Buchner has one year of high school experience at a very low level of competition. He may end up being special but he will probably need a year to acclimate. I’m for bringing in as much talent as possible. Next year is where we will feel Phil’s departure.

I am hoping MTA goes pro. I'd be worried about transfers otherwise. Jayson had a good game against Bama and deserves to be the man and Lacey needs more opportunity. Then there is Cross. Mills looks great.

I’m a little surprised. Due to measurable I think he has reached his ceiling at the college level regarding NFL draft potential. If he entered this years draft I think he could get drafted 6th/7th round. Personally I love the kid and if I was a scout I would be banging on the table for him in the 5th round. So as far as NFL draft goes I don’t see any upside for him to go back to school. Saying that he has a good shot at being a captain in 2021 which is a great accomplishment. Saying that also he is taking a risk of injury while playing for free and not getting that NFL money in 2021.

I want Jayson A to get more snaps in 2021. I’d actually prefer if Jayson A were to start at 3 technique in 2021. So I was thinking with Hinish in the NFL that MTA could move over and start at NT alongside Jayson at 3 tech. But obviously with Hinish returning that throws that idea out of the window. In the end if Hinish returns he starts at NT and I’d like Jayson A to get majority of reps at 3 technique. I think Jayson A is a stud and is only scratching the surface of his potential.

I'm with Sherm, I actually don't know what more the kid can do to help him get a shot at the League. So if that's the case, and he has ambitions to play professionally, he should declare. Does that mean I think he's going high? Nah. But if you're the Steelers and he's there in the 6th or 7th round, how do you not take him?

Dude plays his ass off every rep and is a great leader. Maybe I'm wrong, but I just don't see how he becomes a better prospect after a year, and I love Kurt. I wish we always had players like him on the D Line. Can you imagine him on the 2013, 2014, 2015, or 2016 teams? Dude would be pushing Jarron to be better and instantly shore up 1 DT spot and provide great run defense. Just cause he ain't 2012 Louis Nix doesn't mean that he wouldn't be sorely missed.

I love hinish but don't see NFL player. I think him returning is more about him simply wanting one more year as a notre dame football player than trying to improve draft stock. Seems like the kind of guy who lives for football and doesn't want to hang them up.

I believe that he can play the NFL, but definitely would need to find the right fit team-wise. Then again, I'm elated that he's coming back to ND for another year. A good leader, he's tough, an experienced player and truly plays "balls out"!

He was pretty stout last year. I really expect him to be even better this year.

Glad he volunteered the info about Va Tech. Otherwise the "hinish will never play again" chatter would be upon us.

I do expect that kurt will move on from football at season's end.

Apparently not a concussion. Prister at II speculated maybe some sort of neck/shoulder strain/pull.

He also noted that Hinish had a concussion in August so a 2nd one in that short of time wouldn't be good.

Kelly specifically said it's not a concussion.

Brian Kelly Notebook | 9.30 | Irish Sports Daily

"Kurt went and saw a specialist. He was cleared from having any kind of head injury. It was something different, so he's excited, but he won't play this weekend. We expect to have him back next week."

Sorry....I thought the source I posted was a sport's news authority.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. Your sports news authority was accurate that it was believed to be a concussion and was going to see a specialist. Based upon what BK said, he saw that specialist and they determined it's not concussion related.

Not getting my panties in a bunch. I guess I should have used italics. ESPN has a story on their CF home page, that Lucky showed to be inaccurate. Yes, part of their story is correct about seeing a specialist. Maybe they are slow to update. idk
