I think the lack of excitement is because the paid sites all but guaranteed us a very exciting June. It is now 6/23, and I think we've only had 3 public commitments. It has been fun, but it has still fallen way below my expectations. One insider told me that he wouldn't be surprised if we saw double digit commits in June/early July. I understand that they're probably sitting on quite a few silents, but why are they waiting so long to go public?

Depends on what you/they mean by silent.

Staes literally committed and waited weeks before going public to film his video. That’s a silent to me.

JR said he knew weeks after the offer he’d be Irish but needed to visit. That I can accept calling a silent too.

Someone like idk Schrauth that we MAY lead for and MAY decide or pull the trigger soon? That is not a silent to me and some characterizing it as such is mischaracterizing IMO

Staes sat on his commitment while he made a video for what, 2 weeks? I don't think the month will have been any less successful than previously thought when we look back on it. They just might not be publicly committing on the timeline previously expected. I still think by the end of June, we'll have more fireworks. Then probably some of them get pushed to early July.

Patience.

The recruiting atmosphere has gone from exhilarating to…….peculiar, confusing, puzzling in a week. At least it has for me. I know patience is needed, but the coming and goings and the cancellations are unsettling.

To rewind back on this, as of just Sunday night, Singer was musing at least 6 guys as “guys are very close to committing”. Now I found the statement to be misguided, as I’ve alluded to, but if you trust that sentiment and think all that has changed since has been what Sawchuk to OU, Hayden to OSU, Craig offer, Baer cancel, Winston cancel and Bradshaw cancel you’d still be pretty optimistic no? Would any of those 6 be one of the 6? I’d think likely not. You can draw some negatives maybe around the Craig offer but that’d be it

I was going to put this in the discussion section of the Weekly Recruiting Review but this is as good of a place as any. Two categories of players with varying degrees of confidence in their eventual commitment to ND.

Very Confident: Jaylen Sneed, Devin Moore, one of Anderson/Ayomanor, CJ Williams, one of Pope/Bellamy/X, Ashton Craig.

Confident: one of Pope/Bellamy/X (Very confident we get 1 and confident we get two of these guys or the staff wouldn’t have cancelled visits, IMO), Merriweather, Singleton.

That right there completes DB, LB, RB, and WR recruiting. Leaves open 1 spot on the OL and then it’s just BPA after that.

Edit: Forgot to add Singleton. He’ll be Irish.

not sure if you omiitted Morrison and Singleton on purpose (i.e.not confident) or by accident.

I forgot Singleton but I don’t feel confident about Morrison. Too much confidence from Washington. We’ll see. What do I know really. The broader point isn’t that this list is set in stone but that you can make arguments for us to be in great shape with a lot of guys. Regardless of whether they committed last weekend or in two weekends.

Loy made a comment this morning that DB recruiting went from a plan to take 5 to 4. Could have something to do with cancellation of visits.

Could they have left Spring or started summer workouts (freshman on campus) feeling better about the DB room than some on the board? Seems plausible.

Could the '23 board be impacting this?

It certainly could, I don’t have the answer. I’m sure there are many things that go into those decisions. But, I would assume Freeman is thinking more immediate than that. So, some aspects may carry more importance than others. And, I don’t think that decision is made unless he feels good with what he has or what he knows he’s going to get.

Also, I just read Freeman touch on this as well in his Friday Gold rush. His take is it’s 3 spots for these 4, Moore, Bellamy, Morrison, Pope. X has a 5th spot whenever.

The Freeman Gold Rush has become required reading on Friday, I think he does a really good job with it. Also today's was much more optimistic than I thought it was going to be.

Could also have to do with Amorion being a 'flex' player that could go O or D. So many variables it makes my head hurt.

It certainly could but then I would think the number of WR's would go up to 5. 4 WR's including Walker means that it'd be 3 in this class if Walker moves to DB.

And maybe it will, that was my point. They may be shuffling their numbers around to accommodate some "flex" in their recruited athletes.

Do you guys think we can make each page with fewer posts. That way I don’t need to scroll past like 30 old posts a page

You got to click on the blue double arrow box when you click into a thread and it takes you to latest post. Its a life saver and beats the too much scrolling problem.

I'm a much bigger fan of more posts per page. I usually browse the site a couple of days per week and there's usually a lot to cover. Makes it easier to just have to load up one or two pages per thread to recap what I missed.

Until these guys make decisions for other teams, there is no reason to expect anything else. When we start missing, then let’s start getting upset.

I don't think he was upset, but more referring to Loy trying to get everyone excited, then it doesn't meet expectations.. Could also be a way to pick up a subscription or two.
