I think an early signing period would take care of a lot of the issues in recruiting!!! The recruiting game is getting worse every year!!! NCAA needs to do something to keep these schools in check!

I'm not sure what an early signing period would do. I don't think there's anything a school could do if somone wanted to back out after signing a letter of intent. If signing letters of intent were allowed earlier, you would probably just have guys delaying their signing anyway and just giving verbals.

Just relax. 90% of what we worry about never comes to pass anyway. Even if this were to happen, there's nothing worrying about it is going to do.

Very true. Here's some things to keep in mind before you go jumping off the ledge. At this point if it were going to happen the USC boards would be more than likely buzzing about it and so far they haven't. Some of the more big wig Irish recruiting reporters haven't heard anything or been able to confirm it, and most importantly remember that Corwin Brown was just went and visited Omar this past Friday. So I guess I believe it when I see it.

Here's exactly what it says

"DT Omar Hunter officially visiting USC this weekend?

According to ESPN affiliate WeAreSC.com, Notre Dame commit Omar Hunter might be traveling to the west coast for an official visit with the Trojans this weekend. No confirmation on Hunter's plans has been formerly received at this moment."

I dot to it from espn.go.com and went to College football recruiting it's in the briefing room

GG, you're right that people shouldn't overreact to this. Heck, they couldn't even spell "formally" correctly ...

Even if he makes the visit, there's quite a bit that would have to happen for him to decommit. If I could get an all expenses paid trip somewhere, i would take it.

Hey, maybe he's going to do some recon on USC practices, gameplans, and playbook. Muaahahaha cough cough.

That's sounds like something I'd do, LOL! For someone with a great memory my spelling does suck at times. when you combine that with trying to quickly type with a lack of spell check that often makes for many small mistakes in my posts. That, and Google sometimes tends to scre me over with spelling too.

Hopefully, he's just using it as a vacation. I hate seeing kids reconsider, but than again, I'm fine with other schools recruits decommitting and changing to ND. Is that bad? lol

As I figured the whole thing seems to have been started with a shred of truth, but was then taken and run with by people playing telephone with it in the recruiting world. Because now it is being reported that while the USC are still going hard after Omar and they still want him to visit, it would suprise many USC souces if he visited at all, and they'd be very suprised if it were to happen this weekend.

I wouldn't put much in the vacation excuse a lot of us thought the same thing about Trattou last year and that did not turn out in our favor

You mean that this is a case of a bit of truth stretched by wishful thinking of the USC fans? Or that they are reporting his is taking the visit?

I'm saying that there is a shred of info that so many people have played telephone with that things got out of control like usual. There shouldn't be any visit to USC, at least for now and especially not this weekend.

I'm not trying to intensify any rumors because I am absolutely clueless on this, but Omar's next game isn't until Nov 9. So I said the hell with it and called the AD at Buford, but unfortunately for us I got his voice mail.

From ESPN:

DT Omar Hunter not visiting the Trojans this weekend
Despite some internet reports that stated Notre Dame pledge Omar Hunter might travel to Los Angeles this weekend, his mother told ESPN's Craig Haubert that her son has postponed his visit with USC until after the season.
Additionally, the Under Armour All-American is slated to make his official visit to Notre Dame next weekend.

Not sure how to read this. Obviously it's reassuring that he is not going this weekend, but the quote from his mom makes it sound as if he is still going, just not until after the season. How would that be permissible?

Just an opinion but I'm not sure it's a great idea for fans to start calling the AD. Um, notice his mom's statements weren't in quotations, maybe for good reason..it makes the trip and yet another story sound possible. Notice they said "internet rumors" instead of taking credit for starting the story themselves, that says about everything. GO IRISH!!!

Dubose805 you are correct. More speculation, and those words are not in quotations. I would assume that anything she said would be in quotations. So I'm not understanding why that wouldn't be if she indeed said that.

I agree with you about calling AD's and that goes for coaches, parents, and the kids too. FYI it's it can also be deemed an NCAA violation to contact the kids via phone, MySpace, Face Book, etc.

BTW, I've seen the latest info out on this report and as of right now it doesn't look like there's anything to worry about.

*UPDATE*

From ESPN's Chat Yesterday: Link - ESPN.com: SPORTSNATION - Chat-17864(Insider)

Also text:
Josh (pittsburgh): I just read your update on Omar, what is your gut feel on him?

Craig Haubert: I spoke to Hunter's parents -- he is not visiting USC this weekend - and is set to visit ND next weekend. A USC trip is still possible. It was put to me that it could be done after the season. With that in mind you have to consider USC a factor -- in the end though I think Omar stays at ND and I truly do not think Irish fans have too much to worry about.

Random Recruiting Tidbits from Same Chat:
***********************************************************
Nick (Shrewsbury, PA): How big is the commit of Floyd (WR) for the Irish?

Craig Haubert: I think it is huge - They really showed a commitment to Floyd according to his coach and it paid off. I thought when Carufel left it may damage their chances, but it didn't. Have to tip your hat to ND on that one.

Craig Haubert: From a football standpoint -- nice addition - he is a big body that can make plays with the ball in his hands. He has a knack for taking that underneath pass and turning it into big gains. Things are bad now in South bend, but with Golden Tate, Duval Kamara, and Floyd at wr -- things could pick up soon.

*************************************************************

Fred (Tampa): Hey Craig... What's the update on Kenneth Page? Word was he was really impressed with Notre Dame. Any news on him?

Craig Haubert: Page is still looking and i do not see a commitment coming too soon. I also heard from another ND commit that was there on Page's visit that it went well and ND seems to be in good shape with him.

I had posted that in the members area yesterday soon after it happened, that was the reason for my response in this thread. FYI, Josh from Pittsburgh is a member of the IE/GH community.

I'd call that a big understatement, and if my hunch turns out to be right it might not be as long as Craig thinks.
