Jones to N. Illinois

Well said. I think what he did was distasteful and he has no class at all. Im very disappointed in him because we may have been able to use him at wide receiver or somehow on special teams or in goaline situations by running the option. Im sick over this transfer. I understand the Zach Frazier transfer becuase he did it in a professional matter.

Jones just left his teammates like this? We don't want a quitter

He could be a great QB...guess we will find out. Our OL would make Brady Quinn look like a horrible QB. Weis gave him a chance but really never gave him a chance to be a QB...QB/RB yes but never to throw the ball around! He is a very young kid and admitted he handle the situation wrong! Give him a break...nothing but good luck for Mr.Jones here!!

Can we use that scholarship this year? Or do we have to wait?

I take it we can use it for next year's incoming class, or to take an extra fifth-year. To be honest I don't think there's any way we end up with more than 22 total commits, so it would be the latter if anything.

bottom line, this kid is not ND.....he is none of the things that ND has historically stood for for the past 100+ years......in all honesty, perhaps some day he will realize how much this can only hurt himself, and he will most likely regret it for many many years to come....so i ask ...how can someone be so selfish, and leave teammates behind like that? not even tell the coach? not even sit down and talk about it and weigh the decisions/options within the team? indeed, very disappointing of a guy who the coach thought was on board with what ND stands for. obviously he is not such a kid.

I would love to see him not get released from scholarship, just to spite him. But, I don't think that makes any sense from a PR perspective. We need to get this kid out the door so fast it won't hit him on the way out.

Yea...cut ties with this kid and fast. We don't need his mouth going anymore than it is.

if he does not get released, I think we eat the schollie. We need it. We don't need him.

Revenge sounds cool, but it's not.

He's not an ND man, I think Weis should boot him from his scholarship. Pull it. Don't even wait to release.

We probably only eat the schollie for this year, not next year when we need it. But, I agree with you. Revenge doesn't make sense in this case. There are enough negative vibes around this team already.

Release him from the schollie and cut ties completely with him. Jones is 'me first,' and getting that attitude as far away from this team as possible is a good thing. Revenge always sounds good at first, but it never ends well. That said, I wouldn't mind scheduling Northern Illinois for opening day in a year or two.

Looks like Jones may not be released from his schollie this year.

Irish Insights

WOW.

The former Notre Dame quarterback will not be released from his scholarship, the school announced Tuesday.

"We don't believe that Demetrius' departure was handled appropriately," Notre Dame athletics director Kevin White said.

Jones made his decision to leave known by not showing for Notre Dame's bus to Michigan on Friday afternoon. He did, however, go to Northern Illinois' game against Eastern Michigan in DeKalb, Ill. on Saturday.

Jones told the South Bend Tribune he started classes Monday and Jones finally spoke to Notre Dame head coach Charlie Weis late Monday evening.

"It was a cordial conversation," Weis said. "I wouldn't say aired it out but we cleared up what was going on and he said he's moved on and that's about it."

Weis said he wasn't involved in whether or not Jones was released from his scholarship. The decision is usually made between institutions and athletic directors.

Wow wow wow.

Just a quick note: it appears that NIU was already maxed out on scholarships this year and so DJ was going to have to pay his way anyway, so ND's decision not to release him amounted to more of a symbolic decision than anything else. Who knows if they would've done the same thing if he had been extended a scholarship offer, though ...

Not sure how this scholorship thing works here. If ND denies DD his release from his schollie does that mean for the entire time he is at NIU he cannot recieve a scholorship since ND hasn't realeased him or is this all wiped clean once the school year ends?

I think there's no problem with him taking a scholarship from NIU for next year, just not for this one. A player can probably "release himself" once the season is over.

So is that scholorship available immediately since it is vacated now or does it not become available till the following school year?
