I've been following recruiting a little too much and now it's starting to affect my day to day life. I was talking to my girlfriend yesterday and was trying to use Dane Cook for an example for something and I didn't notice I kept saying Dayne Crist and she just kept looking at me like "Who the F is that?" after repeating "DAYNE CRIST! YOU KNOW WHO HE IS!" about 3 or 4 times I realized the error of my ways.

We'll never know for sure until Crist arrives. But note that I said ".....as good....." The kicker is that I specifically refer to right NOW, and Crist is still in high school.

I'm not demeaning any of the other QBs, but I am emphasizing this Dwayne kid's abilities while still in H.S.

Also, I'm simply cautious regarding guys that are hyped excessively before they even take the field in college. I would, however, love to see ANY of these guys excel to the degree of, say, one of the recent USC QBs, or some similar successes. Too bad Brady Quinn did not have an OL to allow him to perform to his max capabilities. He darn near was killed in at least two or three games last season alone.

----Dwayne  . Easy mistake and as a HS player he's very very good. But as people are hyping Crist this year those same people are forgetting Clausen last year was called "The 10 year prospect." I don't think anyone comes close to Jimmy in HS. Now in college it remains to be seen. Either way they are both the best of the best.

Don't feel too bad, my wife has threatened divorce with all of my talk of ND football and recruiting! My love for ND has led to some :violent: :argue:

OK, so it's Dayne, not Dwayne.

As for the hype, I am an individual, not any arm of the media, wherefrom any meaningful hype emanates. Accordingly, where I'm coming from is simply in the wake of studying film gathered by a friend.

Look at film of Clausen as a H.S. senior, then at Crist as a H.S. junior and in film from this summer (7 on 7 ??). Note their footwork, release, release speed, balance, timing, etc. If you have access, look closely, then tell me.

Unless you are one of Clausen's ardent followers, you may see the attributes I am speaking of. Clausen is special, but not the Messiah. Although some of Clausen's "followers" might incessantly argue that. LOL

I've seen some film on both and I'd have to say Clausen looks better. I'm a Clausen "follower" just like you are a Crist "follower", but go back and look at posts I've made on Crist and you'll see I'm also a Crist "follower". However, at the latest elite 11 Crist wasn't even the best at the camp, some say he was the 3rd best. Does that mean Jimmy, the #1 recruit in the nation last year, is worse than three soon-to-be Senior QB's? I hope not because he's our likely starter this year. I'll just say that I respectfully disagree.

If we were arguing about another teams committed QB I would go at it, but not when they're both our guys. It's a good sign that we can even have this debate with those two being the best QB's of their classes (Crist COULD be, but has to show it his Sr. year.) I will say the thing with Crist is his "potential and upside" in HS while Jimmy was much more "advanced" in HS than any other QB's of most years. So comparing them in HS is irrelevent, but college will be fun to see.

Jimmy was a couple years older when he was a senior, so that has to play a part.

I don't give a crap who is the best, as long as the best is our starter. Personality wise though, I like Dayne. But personality doesn't win games now, does it?

I thought his parents only held him back one year. Which is something that a lot of parents seem to do. It's becomeing a lot more common than you would think.

Don't be mistaken, amigo. I'm not arguing the QB point, and am quite pleased that both QBs are ours.

The friend that possesses all these tapes and studies film is far more astute than I at evaluating them. He (I believe) is paid for services of this type, and is constantly in contact with at least two universities (at two different levels). What I know about deciphering attributes, I learned from him.

Lastly, different players of a given position, in different years, receive different rankings because there is not always a level playing field (no pun intended) from year to year.

My great wonderment is why Crist ever chose ND (football-wise) when he could start for three or four years at many other universities. But I'm most pleased he did.

But does he eat lunch with Lou Holtz?

(Just joshin' ya ...)

Clearly, I am not a Crist follower. Nor am I a Clausen follower. I am most pleased they are both ours.

Just passing along conclusions reached by the owner of the tapes who is far more astute than I in "critical evals" of QBs that he passes on to others who use the data. I learned much from him, and my comments are shared by him. No big deal, though, because we will see what actually transpires as time progresses.

As I stated in another post, my surprise is that Crist chose ND due to the plethora of QBs "ahead" of him. He could easily be a three or four year starter at many universities. It must be the academics, I guess, and that is no small thing, unless he gets totally lost behind the others, and only plays for one year......that would not get him much visibility nor much of a contract in the NFL.

Time will tell all.

True, but, I believe that Southern Cal had a backup who rarely played, get drafted by a NFL team. As far as I know, he made the roster and still employed by that team. Even with one year in College, if you're good enough, that's all it will take. It will be fun and interesting to see how things progress!

And wasn't Leinart going to go near the top of the draft after only one year as a starter?

Yeah, he was projected to go top 5 at least. I wouldn't worry, Southern Cal is stockpiled at QB, and yet, top talent still ends up there. Not a bad problem to have IMO.

Also John David Booty first start was as a (RS) Jr.....Sanchez' first start will most likely be as a (RS) Jr. and if Dayne Crist redshirts next year and Clausen plays 4 full years then he'll be starting as a ....you guessed it a (RS) Jr. so it's plenty of time.

No he won't. Mustain was the top QB in the class before last. Sanchez was the top QB in the class before Mustain's, and word is he's good enough to start now over Booty -- but that Booty is the upperclassmen and Heisman candidate.

Mark Sanchez is a good, good quarterback.

So what you're saying is Pete is starting a player at QB that is second best on the team. I highly doubt it.

No, that's not what I'm saying. What I'm saying from people who I know at the USC program is that Mark Sanchez is good enough to be the starter for USC right now. I never said he was better than Booty, but I know people close to the USC program and they told me that if there was a "QB race" like the one ND is having, it wouldn't be clear that Booty would be the starter. Sanchez is that good.

I never knocked Booty, but simply stated that Sanchez could easily have the job if Carrol for some stupid reason opened it up.
