well it looks like the position is set for the home opener aganist georgia tech, seems sharpley, will be the one, but unless things go very good , i see jones as his backup with clausen being in the learning role for a spell, My hope was that frazer will get some playing time at WR, or LB, he is to good to just ride the bench he need to play somewhere.. ? What say you ?

Frazer will not change positions, a transfer seems iminent. QB battle will play out in late summer/early fall. Jimmy has had playbook since Jan, giving him opportunity to catch up....same logic you suggested obviously didn't pan out for Zack, experience gave him no heads up on Jimmy.

Frazer will transfer. sharpley will start with Clausen #2. I know Jones said he didn't want to play WR but I think he has to much talent to let sit on the bench. He will be on the field some how.

ND will need a waterboy to bring in some high quality H2O for JC. Sorry, but I don't see DD getting the job.

At this point I think it is Sharpley's unless DD or Jimmy step up. If Jimmy in #2, then I don't see him getting in this year. Why burn a year if he is not starting. DD can be the backup while Sharpley is out at the end of the games.

I can easily see during the season getting nothing done on offense and Weis putting Clausen in and the crowd going crazy as he leads us down the field. I gaurentee he will see the field one way or another this year and for those of you not accepting that are not in reality.

I also think Frazer will transfer. I don't see him playing another position, and there is no need for more TEs. I think ES will start, have a few shaky games, and be replaced by DJ or JC. They will be equally as shaky will no experience though.

I agree Frazer is a goner.

If jimmy doesnt start the very first game this season, and hes not even the back up, we better red shirt him. Although I think he is going to play every game this year unless he gets injured

I see no positives in keeping Jimmy out year 1, here's why...
-ND's most prized recruit in over decade comes and sits, doesn't look good to recruits
-What good would a 5th year option have (barring injury)? What message would that send Crist?

The way I see it Sharpley has impressed, he might be a cushion after the Demetrius situation. With Frazer out of the fold I think it signals Charlie has big expectations this year, Sharpley could provide leadership if the young guns get rattled. Personally I think Jimmy will start the Ga Tech game and Double D will get some snaps and be used similar to Randle-El. I know he isn't keen on switching to wideout but if Charlie can give him little tastes of how successful it could be having him and Jimmy on the field at the same time, maybe he'll get sold on it. It'll be tough to single out Double D w/ Jimmy and any combination of Allen, Aldridge, Hughes, Kamara, Tate, etc on the field. Should be very exciting. Starting to feel like the early 90's again, GO IRISH!!!!

I agree with playing Jimmy the first year but not starting the GT game.

Although I do think he will end up being the starting QB by the end of the year.

Good points Dubose.

Is JC really going to be around for 5 years? He would be like 25, can you say Chris Weinke.

And yeah how would it look for all the 5 star guys coming in that want to play, if the golden boy doesn't get a look.

Not sure that this is as important as what happens on the field.

Personnally, if I'm the coach, Clausen doesn't sniff the field until he _takes_ the starting job. Why? Because on this team, stars and hype don't mean a damn thing. Jimmy, you think you're the golden boy, prove it.

Learn the plays, make the throws, lead the team. Be so good that I can't keep you off of the field. Until then, sit and watch. If it's close between Clausen and Sharpley, go with the older guy.

I think the recruits and the rest of the team would be just fine with that.

Frazer, and his father, have both said there is no chance of him transferring. Is there some reason people are ignoring this?

probably because Frazer's father was recently quoted (after the top 3 announcement) in article as saying Zach was entertaining the possibility of transferring.

There was a guy on talk radio down here in TN today (it was a phone interview and I didn't catch his name, so it makes it really hard to validate, sorry) and he was a Notre Dame insider who supposedly knows CW and talks to him. Anyway, this guy was saying that Charlie was VERY unhappy about the performance of JC and- these are his words, not mine- that the staff "do not believe he is anything close to what he was billed as". He was trying to say, basically, that they are worried.
I'm afraid I don't live in th area and can't watch practices (although I would if I could), nor do I know anyone on the ND staff, so...what I want to know is, does anyone really believe that? And I really wish I would have caught this dudes name, but I didn't as trying to drie down these interstates and listed to the radio at the same time isn't always easy. Please make me feel better and tell me this guy is full of dookie.

Full of crap, IMO. Weis runs a tight ship - if he ever mentioned such comments, it wouldn't be to a guy that would spout off to the media - unless they wanted to be out of a job, or a friendship, and fast. I don't think anybody would jeopardize that type of relationship for something so trivial as "Weis didn't like how Jimmy played during the spring."

Anything short of a guy calling up with a voice mutator to mask his/her identity reeks of bull:pileof: to me. I know thats dramatic, but it just doesn't add up to have some guy go on the radio, and make no effort to protect that "insider" relationship he supposedly has.

And if Weis was "VERY" disappointed, then why isn't Clausen an odd man out? Its not like there aren't talented options waiting in the wings... some guy stirring the crap if you ask me.

As I recall the comments on the 3 in the running for the QB job:
-Jimmy Clausen through the ball the best......

I wonder if it is possible that this is some Vol fan who remains incensed that Jimmy didn't follow his brothers to 'Purina' Stadium.

BTW, I am the psychiatrist of the mystery caller, and I speak to my patient frequently. He is actually a very deluded individual with an extremely dangerous sociopathic disorder, and illusions of 'knowing' people. The individual has not set foot outside the cell (errr suite) in his parent's basement in 35 years. Coach Weis has had a restraining order in place against this individual since last spring when Jimmy C announced for ND. I would say more, but there is that Doctor/Patient confidentiality thing!!!

And BTW, he is convinced that clowns are evil......

Well, it wasn't just some guy calling in, but a guy the station actually called to interview, which is why I was annoyed I missed his name. At any rate, it probably was some guy from the Illinois side of things who has a bias against ND in the first place. And I truly want JC to see fantastic success because I have taken nothing but grief from my SEC (and especially UT fan) friends, who have kept throwing the failure of Jimmy's brothers in my face.

That is all just so utterly rediculous I don't care to even comment on it any further.

I don't see Weis naming Clausen as one of the three if he is Weis is worried about him. If he sucks, then he would not have been named. Next caller.

I look for Clausen to start...JJ to back up and Sharpley to play spradically during the season. If JJ is not the back up, then I think there is a 75% probability he will transfer. But, don't despair, Crist is gong to be very, very good!

Are we already to the point where we forget about our past highly touted recruits (Clausen) in favor of the new guys who haven't come in yet (Christ)? I know we do this every year, and then act surprised when these guys come out in their Junior or Senior year with a bunch of skill (Junior Jabbie) but I didn't know it was time to start already! Could we make the announcement of this time a sticky somewhere or something?
