Each new pickup gets even bigger than the other...this is huge because it's a Chicago kid and LB is now filling up very early

ND is going to be unstoppable in the red zone in a couple of years not only with bruisers like Hughes and Aldridge, but with two 6-7 plus TEs, Kumara at 6-5 and Goodman at 6-5. That is a nightmare for defenses.

Yep, no way is our O gonna be stopped in a few years. Add Allen plus a solid O-line to that list and if Weis can just bring in the defensive recruits were title bound!

I hate to hijack, but I'd luv to see a wishbone at the goal line with JA, AS, and maybe a Hughes.

We were saying the same things at our tailgate yesterday morning with Schmidt lined up as a second tight end and those boys bringing the noise. Awesome...

Oh no, you can't go wishbone. You have to go T-Double (2TEs and full house backfield). That's actually the formation we used in goaline situations in high school. There were even several times when we lined up our really quick All-Conference DT at fullback. HeHeHe :devil_2:

Free story from Scout on Darius talking about his committment. Darius clearly explains why he waited until the B&G game day. He is obviously a very mature, sensible, and articulate kid, and like the Darius that just left ND will be a tremendous representative for the University.

In another recent article Darius said that he actually commited two weeks ago, but he waited untill the day of the B/G game to go public.

I was gonna go back and check out something he said, but they already have it under "ESPN INSIDER" now I remember why I never go to that stupid website. They put every little thing in the insider. Even If there was an attack on the country you'd have to pay to be an insider to find out.

(Billy, Boston): Darius what player in the college or pro game do you currently model your game around?

Darius Fleming: On the field play, I would have to say Joey Porter. I love his attitude and his physicalness on the field. But off the field, I'm not anything like him.

He sounds like a very level headed kid, who is really in love with Coach brown and his style and the switch to the 3-4. He said he probably would not have come, if it still would have beena 4-3, because he does not see himself as a true DE. More of the OLB

I liked how they said they want him up around 250.

Man, that's gonna be one big, fast OLB.

I saw that too - that he wasn't thrilled with the idea of packing on 40-50 pounds to be a down lineman, or being an undersized end who got pushed around every down. I'm really liking what this 3-4 can do for us in recruiting battles.

We can tell a 240 lbs DE, "Guess what? Your size fits perfectly at OLB. If you adjust, you could see the field day one."

We go to a 280 lbs DT, and say, "Actually, your size is ideal in our scheme. If you work with your coaches on leverage, I think we can get you on the field early at DE."

Other schools don't have that luxury. They have to tell recruits that they need to bulk up before they get on the field. With the way Weis has set this thing up, where the best players play regardless how long they've been on the team, this is really going to lure kids on defense, since they won't need to pack on weight to play.

Agreed. You took the words right out of my mouth!

Very well put. Not only that, but it also allows something that is a STAPLE of good NFL teams: flexibility.

My beloved New England Patriots won 3 championships, 2 of them with Troy Brown, a WR, getting significant time at defensive back. Richard Seymour was drafted as a defensive tackle and plays it very well in the 4-3 ... but he's one of the most dominant DEs in a 3-4.

Terrell Suggs of the Baltimore Ravens can put his knuckle down and rush the QB as a defensive end -- or he can drop into coverage as an OLB. And so on and so fourth.

We can recruit a 280 pound high school senior and play him at DE -- and if he struggles, have him pack on some pounds and play him at the nose. 250 - 260 pound guys who can run can be taught to drop back into coverage, giving you a big, mean, fast defense.

There's a lot of ways you can go with players in the 3-4, and that's what I like most about it.

A little change of subject, how come we never hear mike haywood's name mentioned when it comes to recruiting? When he was at LSU and Texas he was one of their top recruiters ,especially in the state of Texas.I think he's from the Houston area?

Thats a really good question. Wasn't Haywood responsible for getting Cedric Benson to go to Texas?

It's just really really hard to get players out of those areas right now. Although I do know that he is taking the Corwin Brown approach and is helping to recruit all the top offensive targets not in his region. In fact I saw him mentioned in a recent C.Thomas article.

But let's try to stay on subject and keep this thread about Darius.
