Scout analyst Gabe Brooks likes him a little more on defense because of his size/versatility

Scout: ND makes move with four-star athlete

Four-star athlete Saiid Adebo got an introduction to Notre Dame with a Junior Day visit. He expects it won’t be the last trip to South Bend after the Irish made a move up the list of contenders.

Saiid Adebo used a Junior Day trip to Notre Dame as an introduction.

The four-star athlete from Mansfield, Texas, had never travelled so far for a college visit. Certainly it was a chance for the Irish to show off their program. It was also an opportunity for Adebo to go over the details closely.

One of those fine points happened during practice, where Adebo watched offensive coordinator Mike Sanford, the area recruiter, and defensive backs coach Todd Lyght do their work.

“I watched coach Sanford and then coach Lyght with the DBs,” Adebo said. “I talked to coach Lyght a little bit during the position meetings. He was just basically explaining to us how he’s been through the process, played at Notre Dame and played in the NFL. He’s been there and he knows what it takes to be good and things of that nature.”

Lyght likes Adebo as a cornerback prospect.

But it wasn’t just football the 6-foot-1, 177-pound wanted to consider. Adebo, who made the trip with his mother, paid particular attention to the academic presentations.

“It’s a prestigious academic school,” Adebo said. “You’re getting one of the better educations in the U.S. They had an academic presentation for us that they went through with different statistics and explaining what it is to be a student-athlete at Notre Dame.”

Adebo also took note on how freshmen are integrated into the university once they arrive. After the summer session, they don’t necessarily have roommates they already know.

Turns out Adebo saw this development as a positive.

“One unique thing is for the first year they actually have their players room with non-athletes,” he said. “That way they can establish different relationships with people outside the athletic department. I thought that was a pretty cool thing. They talked about the community service they do to try to get involved with the community and build more relationships. That was neat.”

Adebo departed Notre Dame with early plans to return, perhaps this fall.

Baylor is next in line to receive a visit. Adebo would like to see Oklahoma and Oklahoma State again. Arkansas, Colorado, Duke, Kansas, Missouri, Northwestern, SMU and Texas Tech are among the other scholarship offers.

Notre Dame succeeded in standing out from that crowd after one visit.

“I think they’re right up at the top if not the top,” Adebo said. “I’m definitely gonna try to get back up there again later on. Not sure when I’ll be able to do that but definitely gonna try, maybe an official visit. I’m not sure.”

I just realized that Adebo goes to school with '17 RB Kennedy Brooks. He has openly said he wants an ND offer. He ran for over 3500 yds last year and Mansfield is in Texas' top division where they made it to the semi-finals in the state championship. So he's not doing it against chumps.

Since the beginning of May Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee, and Georgia have offered. Looks like he's blowing up.

To piggyback off of this, ISD's film evaluator thinks he's a blue chip corner prospect.

BVG likes to play off man coverage a fair amount. Adebo plays that well in his highlights. Looks like a good fit. He's also long enough that he should be able to develop press technique in time

Starting the DB class with this kid would be a very good start, IMO

Oregon, LSU & Texas offered in the following week.

You were right and now it's official, he done blowed up.

I always have a hard time buying into us being the leader with a kid never visiting.

He visited for the March ND Jr. Day and ranked ND #1 after that visit (Post #3 and 5)

Glad we got in on the ground floor. Let's hope we can maintain the CB.

Texas recently offered Mansfield’s Saiid Adebo, who is listed as an athlete, and he’s a guy that I feel could fit the role. However, Notre Dame is in the lead and if Stanford puts an offer on the table, that recruitment could be over.

Mansfield is a Dallas area perennial powerhouse, and a great place for Irish coaches to visit when in this area. Lots of D1 talent, would be awesome if Irish could steal a kid or two. Competition will be tough from SEC and Big 12 schools.

Yet another kid who we play second-fiddle to Stanford for (despite no visit there?). Awesome. Can't wait til he signs with Cal.
