Yeah but Cardinal Stritch has an alumnus with >10,000 posts on Irish Envy soooo what's really the best high school in the Toledo area?

Freakin' you are, man!

Don't look over your shoulder, but the Johnnie's are at almost 9,700! (And that is without part one, before the pedantic pansy left for six months!)

Okay, without betraying any trust, or anything else, I got the skinny :

  • Parents are stunned at the recruiting interest in their son, proud, but truly humble.
  • Santa Claus wants it to be an Irish Christmas.
  • Of all the presentations with interaction from the head coach, and the family has met with Stanford and whole bunches of other schools, Dantonio and MSU have been the most impressive by far.
  • They meet with Urban in the next two weeks.
  • Some coach just north of us has no traction, whatsoever.
  • Mom is just overwhelmed by the ND Campus and everything about the school.
  • They haven't met Brian Kelly yet.
  • The are developing a really good relationship with multiple assistant coaches, etc., at ND.
  • Mom says that a few other schools like Stanford will get a bit of a look, but this is a three horse race; OSU, MSU and ND, and that is very unlikely to change.
  • The family is very good at dealing with the slime, and separating truth from fiction.
  • There are schools that are already out because of their own (the schools) special flavor of b.s.

Great update Bogs. Reps!\

I think this bodes extremely well for us. If it is indeed a three horse race, family can separate truth from fiction and are good at dealing with the slime (the Urban visit should eliminate OSU?), wait until BK gets to meet with the family.

There is an awful lot of Buckeye pull around here. I want to be careful that the change in tune (regarding ND more seriously) isn't just that we have been identified as ND fans. This family is hardworking, honest, and loving, but remember, mom's job is as much conciliator and mediator as educator. She really cares about kids, and enjoys my three youngest. Works with, and has been a neighbor of my son and daughter-in-law. She isn't going to risk that goodwill for anything.

And for the record NDCrusader, the last of that cow manure, (BS) was removed by this time of year 41 years ago, when a certain rowdy class graduated from the hallowed halls . . .

From Anna Hickey after the II :

“He had me, Dallas Gant and Matthew Bauer rounded up at the end,” Davis said. “At some point, he said all three of us will have an offer. That feels amazing. Notre Da me is one of those places. It was great to hear. He wants to see my first few games this fall, and everything else is a check mark.”

Three '18 linebackers identified.

There is a lot of Buckeye smoke right now. Let's just wait a month. I like the big three including Sparty. That seems to work as an Urbie antidote. I wouldn't know why, maybe just that it keeps kids who have MSU as a serious interest from pulling the Archie-Urbie-spur-of-the-moment trigger ala., Zeke.

Latest update. Urban is phoning one parent daily. I sincerely hope that he is turning that parent off by his persistence. I don't know.

But I think that he would probably be calling the parent not in the fold. And if I know anything, bull rush recruiting isn't going to be effective. Not with this parent.

So. I think ND is extremely interested, and has made that clear. I believe that today's commitment of OO is great for Dallas's recruitment for a number of reasons.

  • OO is going to bloom and shine this year; ND picks the right fits.
  • OO is the same length, (generally) as Dallas, it with these kids skill sets fit well within the Irish defense.
  • Both kids have the chance to play multiple positions.
  • OO was deciding between MSU and ND, Michigan was distant, and OSU was out of the picture, hmmm!
  • If these kids get a chance to know each other, it is definitely an advantage. These kids are 'RKG' nothing less. From what I hear some of these gathering defensive studs from '18 are starting to develop decent relationships.

Won't be calling tonight. He's with Dallas and half of the Army All American's at the moment.

Agree w/ Bogmaster per usual. One of the better parts of having these kids sign on earlier is that they can get in other recruits ears about the benefits of the school they chose and the process they went through. IMO hearing all good things from a bunch of defensive studs would be a huge plus if I were interested in joining a group of likeminded and like-abled individuals for the next (or next-next) 4 years.

This is really, extra important in this case. The only thing I didn't like about his picture in Columbus is that I couldn't see his mom and grandma in the picture!

But relationships and education are going to count way more in this recruitment that I would expect they do in the average blue chippers.

Would close out a great LB class
I'm not sure ND has a LB recruit yet in '18.

Justin Ademilola may be listed as a LB but his future is at DE, the question is whether is he going to be a WDE or SDE. His brother Jayson is listed as a DE but IMO He's a DT-3T.

Ovie Oghoufo another listed as a LB and he could end up being a OLB but I believe there's a good chance he ends up as a WDE. He reminds me very much of Daelin Hayes.

That said getting Gant would be amazing get but IMO he would be the first or true LB in the class.

Anyone have any news out of Columbus? I am treading softly here. My big worry is Urban gets Dallas to commit early. He has been bringing all the heat. Personally.

If Dallas doesn't commit soon to the Buckeyes, that will be good. I am hoping the thing that would forestall a Buckeye commitment is his interest in MSU and ND. His family feels MSU is a school he can get a good education at (which is true.) Maybe not on par with ND, but really good.

I want to hear how impressive the OSU staff was compared to MSU and ND. MSU (Dantonio, himself) was the most impressive before a sit-down with Meyers.

My feeling is that longer is better than shorter on this one. But when the commitment is made, it is done.

I agree with everything you have said. You can even add that OO may fit into a hybrid position, or strong safety.

But Dallas is kind of in the same boat. The kid could end up really big. As a sophomore I believe he was taller, with a slightly larger frame than Jaylon Smith. So as an outside linebacker, he is probably going to end up on the large side, also.

To close out the '18 LB recruiting right now, ND would have to get Gant, Gaoteote and Bauer.

I think they'll end up with Bauer, Davis and Barrow.

Yeah, and the results are in, the response was pretty underwhelming.

A little birdie told me he liked ND because it reminded him of SJJHS, and that it would actually help in his spiritual and academic development.

I can now say three things about this kid :
  • He is top shelf in every aspect; the kid who is definitely shopping down the other isle.
  • He comes from a line of really, really big men, most are giants ., (except his cousin who came from Sylvania Southview and started for the Wolverines a few seasons back.
  • He is the third generation from his family that has had an opportunity to play college football, (the family list includes at least 8 members at the D1 level.)
  • Dallas is a phenomenal student, and really has an interest in what he will do post-football.

I don't know where he will go, but if there ever was a Young Man for Notre Dame, it is Dallas!

Yessss! Thanks for this. I mentioned this before but we had great LB classes the last few years. I love our class this yer so far, and now '18 is shaping up fantastically. I'm very excited about our LB's. David Adams especially.

Does anyone have any inside information from the ND recruiting staff on how they are playing Dallas' recruitment?

Is there a reason ND doesn't want this kid? Or that this kid doesn't know if they want him, or not?

I can tell you that there are a lot of raised eyebrows at this end (Toledo) because ND just doesn't even communicate with this kid. Those close to Dallas that are in the ND camp were hoping that would change after September, 1st, but so far this kid just hadn't had any personal communication with anyone from Notre Dame. I may find out whether that has continued, either tonight or next Thursday.

I understand he got a position group tour when he was at the campus and that is it.

This kid had, or has a high level of interest in Notre Dame. And this kid is good enough, I don't care who you are recruiting, you would take him.

He also has a 3.85 plus gpa, at a top Jesuit College Prep high school and has been taking college courses since his freshman year. This kid is really gifted in a whole bunch of areas. And this kid is nothing short of a young community leader.

Even if they are waiting for someone to pop first, maybe even a player in the class of '17, one would think they would let this kid know the terrain, and what was going on from Notre Dame's perspective.

I have zero insight into Dallas's recruitment but from a big picture perspective it doesn't sound like ND hit the Sept 1st. midnight (start of the first contact period for 2018 recruits) opportunity as hard as others did. In fact, there were numerous recruits and even commitments that mentioned they didn't receive contact from ND but did from a host of other schools. The commits included Jurkovec and Ovie. Not sure what the plan is with that, but it doesn't sound like a Dallas only situation. However, anything before that, I can't speak to.

Edit, Per Loy, ND is going to be sending out something unique to a ton of 2018 recruits. So, while we might not have blown up kids at midnight, we'll be getting our point across in some manner. A more unique manner, it sounds like.
