Definitely on offer watch. Coach Denbrock has been in OC since yesterday. Elijah is yet another guy whose offer list far outweighs his current rankings. Plays at La Mirada same HS that Tyler Luatua attended. Speaking of the offer list... Harvard and Yale right at the top. (check that box) I know he's way up Washington's board and local reports have him as a UCLA lean. No SC fairy dust being blown up his nose right now so I'd say this is a good of a possibility as any if he gets the offer.

You forgot your italics.

...and Osceola's on the other side of the river. Come on now Michiana!

1) FIFY
2) People living there have argued the boundaries for years that it technically doesn't fall within either place...Whenever the Elkhart Truth covered their football games, they always used OSCEOLA as the dateline ...this is why I typed both into my post

Recruiting Week In Review - Irish Sports Daily

2017 prospect Elijah Hicks, DB, 6-0, 185, La Mirada High School, La Mirada, CA had been waiting for a Notre Dame scholarship offer and last week the Irish came through.
“I called Todd Lyght, the DB coach,” Hicks said. “He was talking to me and said he wanted to offer me. He’s seen how hungry of a guy I am, I’m an athlete who can play both ways. He feels like I can contribute.”
Hicks is athletic enough to play on either side of the ball but he prefers defensive back to wide receiver.
“I could play anywhere in the secondary and I’ll bring my physical playmaking ability,” he said.
Hicks holds a number of scholarship offers ranging from the elite of the Pac 12 to Ivy League schools. He was very excited to add Notre Dame to that list. He was especially attracted to Notre Dame’s history of success, noting the Irish’s number three all-time ranking.
“I actually saw that in the morning and then later on, right before practice, they offered so it was kind of cool,” he shared.
While Notre Dame has yet to secure an official visit from the three-star defender, Hicks hopes to set one up for October.
“I have to talk it over with my family more, but I’d like to see how the environment is and talk with the coaches and see what they’re talking about more,” he shared.
Tyler Luatua, a former La Mirada star plays for the Irish and La Mirada head coach, Mike Moschetti, makes no secret of the fact that he’s a fan of Notre Dame. According to Hicks Moschetti describes the Irish as “big time,” an assessment with which he agrees. Still, he isn’t ready to name Notre Dame, or any other school as a leader at this point.
“I’m considering all of the schools really,” he said. “I’ll probably take my official visits to the farther schools so I can get a look at those.”
Hicks won’t likely make a decision until he takes his official visits, but does know what he will be looking for in a program.
“Probably my relationships with the coaching staff, the environment, academics and how all that comes together,” he said of his priorities in making a decision.

Scout: Hicks on upcoming visit to Notre Dame

La Mirada (Calif.) defensive back Elijah Hicks visited Northwestern last weekend and he talks about his upcoming trip to Notre Dame.

La Mirada (Calif.) defensive back Elijah Hicks has been one of the best all-around football players in the Southland in the 2017 class.

And while his game has been taken to a new level, his recruitment has as well.

In the meantime, Hicks is getting more and more attention, well into the 30's in offers, with Michigan the latest to offer him.

In fact, it's been a Big Ten feeling for Hicks in the last week, with a visit to Northwestern taking place last weekend prior to the Wolverines offer.

"I had a good time at Northwestern," said Hicks. "It was a good trip and I'm glad I took a trip out there to see how it was. It came out to be an even better place than I expected it to be. They would definitely be around the top of my list."

It was the first official visit for Hicks and he was hosted by Brian Bullock on the trip.

There was also plenty of time with the Northwestern coaches.

"Coach (Jerry) Brown (Northwestern's DB coach) and Coach Fitz (head coach Pat Fitzgerald) are who I spent a lot of time with," said Hicks. "I really like Coach Fitz, he really connects with the players."

While the Wildcats lost to Nebraska when Hicks was there, he appreciated their outlook after.

"It was cool how the players act even though they lost," said Hicks.

"They don't bash their teammates, but they have a whole new respect for it. My host was telling me that they just have to make the best of their opportunities and win as a team."

Next month, Hicks will visit Notre Dame.

And even though the Irish fired defensive coordinator Brian Van Gorder this week, Hicks said that has zero effect on his recruitment.

"Coach Van Gorder getting fired doesn't affect me at all," said Hicks. "It's actually pretty cool to know that the coaches will do whatever they need to do to win and they have the best interest in the players so they made the move."

Defensive backs coach Todd Lyght is recruiting Hicks and he talks with head coach Brian Kelly often.

"Coach Lyght is the main one recruiting me but Coach Kelly texts me all the time," said Hicks.

It's the only other scheduled visit for Hicks, though he plans to take a few more.

"I have to talk it over with my parents about where else I'll visit," said Hicks. "Michigan is a very good possibility for a trip too."

The Wolverines had been on Hicks for a while, but the offer only recently came to fruition.

"We had every now and then talked, but then last week, we started to talk again and then they offered me on Monday," said Hicks. "It was really cool to get that offer."

The two local schools have been aggressively recruiting Hicks and he plans to visit for a few games at each school this season.

"UCLA and USC are both recruiting me hard and I talk with them all the time," said Hicks. "They'll both make my final list."

USC has had a host of coaches recruiting Hicks.

"Coach (Ronnie) Bradford is who is mainly recruiting me but I talk with Clancy (Pendergast) a lot and I talk to Coach (Clay) Helton a lot too," said Hicks. "I was at the Utah State game a couple weeks ago."

Across town, it's primarily defensive backs coach Demetrice Martin recruiting him.

"Coach Meat is the main one recruiting me to UCLA but I talk with Coach (Jim) Mora some too, but usually it's Coach Meat," said Hicks. "I'll didn't get to the Stanford game because I was on my trip to Northwestern but I plan to go."

Stanford is another school he's hoping joins the mix.

"They still talk to me but they've taken awhile to offer me so we'll see," said Hicks.

Hicks has a 3.7 GPA and will take the SAT in October.

This Friday, Hicks and La Mirada will take on Norwalk (Calif.).

Was just going to post this.

So Final 5 looks like:

ND
Northwestern
UCLA
SC/UM
Stanford jumps in/leads? with an offer

I think ND is in the lead but I think they are slow playing him right now. He's a tweener. Hasn't shown great speed in his testing but Gorney and the westcoast Rivals guys really like him. They have him as a solid 4 star.

To piggyback off of this, Jamie from ISD also has questions about his top end speed, but cannot deny how good he's looked going against some decent competition.

I've heard from someone else in this business who really likes him that they think he has a brighter future at safety but that he could be really solid at CB too in the right scheme and packages.

Jamie did mention that he made some plays at FS...

I'll disagree with 247 on this one.

Ahmed is going to W as a RB first and the Huskies are very much in it for Oregon CB, Elijah Molden. If they struck out with Molden and then Darnay Holmes & Elijah Gates, they probably need another CB in this class as they only have Keith Taylor. I can't see them passing on Hicks in that scenario. That's not to say Hicks would chose them. I think it's been ND and NW at the top. This is a young man who has offers from the Big 2, Harvard & Yale.

I'm personally very happy with Fong's CB. Hicks has been getting a lot of press in LA this season and both Rivals and Scout have recently bumped him to 4 star with Scout putting him at #25 CB and #259 OA.

A haul of Hicks, Graham and if Santa is really feeling generous, Greg Johnson would be program changing though just 2 of three would be great... as I have a feeling there will be more changes at CB this fall than just Luke graduating.

Plus, Hicks gives you a potential S conversion down the line if FS depth doesn't work out to their liking.

I think it was ISD that even hinted that he's close to pulling the trigger for the good guys. I'm not sure we should expect a commitment, but it's not out of the realm of possibility. Is his coach an Irish fan or am I confusing him with somebody else?

Yes, there was a free article from ISD that said,

Tyler Luatua, a former La Mirada star plays for the Irish and La Mirada head coach, Mike Moschetti, makes no secret of the fact that he’s a fan of Notre Dame. According to Hicks Moschetti describes the Irish as “big time,” an assessment with which he agrees.
Recruiting Week In Review - Irish Sports Daily

I'm not sure if that means he's an Irish fan or he's a fan of the way Notre Dame handles it's program. Good chance it's both with a name like Moschetti.

I hope he does pull the trigger so Calvin, Echols, Graham and Johnson know they have a travel partner during breaks and McKinley and Morgan will have some rookies to carry their bags through LAX.

"Coach Kelly hits me up every Friday," said Hicks. "He asks about my upcoming game, how I'm doing in the classroom. I like that. He's consistent."

also he stated he talked w/ Luatua and said the ONLY reason he wanted to transfer and decided not to was just due to wanting to be closer to family---this was a huge selling point as he decided to come back according to hicks
wants to major in buisness
plans to visit cal and possibly washington before committing as he is a man of his word and already promised cal's db coach he would visit

Effort of staff has Elijah Hicks excited about Notre Dame visit

Haven't seen film. Is this guy good and someone we should be excited about? Spare me the "Wells if the coaches want him of course he's good". Can he ball at a top 15 team or not?

I like him quite a bit. I think he's an ideal Nickel. I don't think he's going to be a starting outside CB but if we were to sign Adebo/Graham/Hicks, that'd be a killer haul with Hicks as the NB. He's a physical kid for not being overly big. Fluid athlete, nice hips and feet. Plays the ball well. Like mentioned before (by others), his knocks would be questions about his top end speed and size.

IMO, he's a rotational outside CB on a top 25 defense, that would be a starting Nickel. If we had a junior/senior Hicks on this team right now, we'd be in a much better spot, for example.

that actually kind of jumped out at me watching the film despite running back punts etc he looks like the parking brake is on...def physical and jams receivers but catch up speed to me, needs to improve
