How far does everyone have ND going? Sadly, I got them getting bounced by WV in the second round

That's what I'm probably going with. I really want to pull the trigger on SFA upsetting WVU...in which case I would have ND going Sweet 16 or maybe Elite 8.

I just don't know what to make of the Big-12. They didn't really impress me out of conference apart from Kansas/OU taking down a couple big name schools.

WVU lost to Virginia by 16 at home earlier this year. They lost to Florida by 17 and that was only a few weeks ago in the Big12/SEC challenge. They didn't play any tournament teams besides that in OOC play. 3-4 on the road total this year when taking on tournament teams.

I like WVU Press, but I couldn't agree more.. Big 12 is so confusing. Wouldn't be surprised if Stone Cold Stephen Austin beat them

Why is the tourney your only barometer? Why not conference specific goals? Again, as illustrated by even your own numbers, reaching the sweet 16 for anyone other than the traditional powers is hard. In the last 10 years, only 6 schools have reached the Sweet 16 at a clip greater than 50%. They are:

6 births - Florida, Duke, Kansas UNC, UofL
7 births - MSU

There have been 6 teams that have had 5.......OSU, UCLA, Xavier, Wisky Kentucky & Arizona.

So in the last 10 years, only 12 teams have met a really high standard. Compare that to football, where in the last ten years, only Florida, OSU, Bama, ND, Auburn, FSU, Oregon, Texas, LSU, OU & Clemson have made the national championship game. So 11 teams in 10 years. Asking ND basketball to replicate what the blue bloods produce would be like saying it's NC game or bust for Michigan football. Simply put, that is asking too much when you are historically a good, but not elite program. It takes either getting really lucky with coaches (see Xavier with Matta, Miller and Mack and Wisky with Ryan and Bennett), having a string of really good luck, program changing funding, tradition or some combination of these. I don't like the odds and would rather try the funding hand before canning Brey.

Were they lucky in hiring these guys are just did a good job in the area of due diligence? Or maybe they already had a good foundation and program in place! Maybe in was a combination of all of these.

Look at Butler. They had considerable success way before Stevens was hired. You can go back all the way to Barry Collier and see consistency, vying for conference titles and winning seasons is the norm. Xavier is very similar to Butler in that respect.

But they have made it the last two years and are quite good right now.

Why now?

Let's not act like this is Indiana or North Carolina. He had two rough seasons a few years ago, but historically, they are a solid tournament team under him. Just seems like a strange time to call for a coaches head when they are currently a pretty good team. Nobody gets fired when they are one the best teams in their conference because they had a rough season three years ago.

Painter's rough seasons were a result of a couple of kids who decided they were above the rules and ended up being cancers. He got rid of them and here they are again. Purdue also just finished a major athletic project which updated the facilities.

We need to upgrade the facilities to help in recruiting, but for those who would like a change in coaches, I ask, "What if the admin is perfectly content with where the BBall program is today?"

Brey said earlier in the week that he might spice up the starting lineup for the first game. Apparently during practice today Farrell was working with the starters

I like our spot in the bracket. Have a shot at Elite 8. Go Irish!

I put ND in the Elite 8. Its wishful thinking but I thought I needed to do something a little different than everyone else if I want to win the pool. WVU doesn't really put the fear of God into me and Xavier...meh. Not a bad draw.

My other fun pick was UNI making the sweet 16.

why????

I can understand that for the potential WVU game but why would you start Farrell against Michigan??

UM played like absolute garbage against a bad Tulsa team. ND should beat the brakes off these guys.

Just watched some Sports Center but where the analytics chic picked Michigan because they're inconsistent. Figure that one out.

ND Men's Basketball 2015-2016 season

The way ND has played recently, I think we lose by double digits. Michigan has more talent.

Got crushed by UNC, but didn't they beat Duke?

You have one team willing to play with energy and try to defend, and then you have ND doing exactly what had them lose a bunch of games recently. Stagnant offense and traffic cones on defense.

The only way you come back and win is by defending, because the offense isn't getting to 80 tonight.

All against a UM team missing its best player. What a disappointment that this team can't be motivated enough to play with some energy.

Seems like they are trying to force it inside too much instead of just letting the game come to them.
