Stone Double Bastard

This weekend while IE was down
Sierra Nevada 5 Hop
Coronado Stingray IPA
Samuel Adams Rebel Rouser IIPA (very average)
Sierra Nevada Otra Vez (pretty good, would be a good beer after doing yardwork during the summer)
Ninkasi Total Domination IPA (ok)

Saturday night was Gulden Draak Brewmaster's Edition (aged in whiskey barrels), along with Chicago-style deep dish pizza:

My wife has Giordano's recipe down pat. Near perfect clone.

Jealous.

Is it not available around you? I am pretty sure that SN distributes to all 50 states plus DC.

I don't think I've seen it in the store. In Michigan (or at least the civic abortion known as Lansing), it seems liquor stores can't be bothered to sell a 6-pack for less than 14 bucks, so I only buy alcohol at the grocery. But then the selection is a little limited. It's still a good selection but it's heavily biased toward local beers.

I picked up some Grapefruit Sculpin for $15 a sixer. It's good, but not good enough for the price. It doesn't stand out enough to make me want to go back for more. I'll take a few other IPAs for less the price every day. Another disappointment from Ballast Point for me. Not bad, but not up to the hype.

Out of curiosity how do you compare it to the standard Sculpin?

Stone has some really interesting releases that just came out or are coming out in the next few weeks.

Stone Encore Series: 12th anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout (released 1.25.16)
Stone Pataskala X Red IPA (releases 2.1.16)
Stone Americano Stout (releases 2.1.16)
Stone Old Guardian Barleywine Dry Hopped with Pekko Hops (releases 2.8.16)
Also here there is Stone Enjoy by 2.14.16 Black IPA and the 2.14.16 unfiltered

ETA: Actually I did have a bomber of the Unfiltered so I removed the part about not having tracked it down.

Got into the Scotch game with some Glen Moray single malt. I'm thinking its probably pretty low quality(I'm only 23, I'm easy to please) I imagine because it was only like $25. Enjoyed it.

Call me a country bumpkin but I have trouble straying too far from Miller Lite in terms of beer. I will try some of the Euro ones from time to time.

I finally took a shot on New Belgium Citradelic last night even with the mixed reviews. Not good. The mouthful was very flat and watery, nothing to it. It didn't seem like an IPA at all. It had a very one-dimensional flavor. Bad flavor. Like Tang. It was a struggle to get through one. I wouldn't drink another one even if someone bought it for me.

Man, I wish we could get Stone in South Dakota.

We finally got Lagunitas where I live, despite it being in South Dakota starting March 2015. Founder's launched in South Dakota in June and we still haven't gotten that yet. I live in a barren wasteland for beer.

You live in Pierre? You live in a barren wasteland for pretty much everything ;)

Not if you like to hunt or fish.

But in all reality, summer's on the Missouri River are amazing and it's pretty easy to get to Sioux Falls or Rapid City. Denver and Minneapolis are pretty easy drives as well.

Total Wine has not gotten in any of the new Stone releases yet (to be fair some haven't been released yet) nor the Ballast Point Sculpin so I got a hodgepodge of beer instead.

First up is Victory Blackboard Series Agave IPA with Grapefruit.

I picked up a cheap Italian red wine to drink with dinner tonight. Almost time to open it.
