Alright gents, I suppose this is where we make a fundamental decision of the level of balance between the character of a man and the on field performance in regards to who makes this Hall of Fame. Let's see how this goes...

Darius Fleming

- Notre Dame Graduate
- Four Year Starter
- Tied for Second Most TFL in Notre Dame Career (32)
- Fourth in All Time Sacks in Notre Dame Career (14)
- Second in Sack Yardage in Notre Dame Career (93 yards)
- Super Bowl Champion
- Saved a Women From a Burning Car and Then Played Admirably in Divisional Playoff Game With 22 Stitches in His Leg From Kicking The Window Open

...fourth all time in sacks at ND is 14??? Good Lord.

Yeah... Stephon Tuitt is #95 all time with 22

Some examples:

Joey Bosa - #39 with 26
Ndamukong Suh - #54 with 24
Ryan Kerrigan - #3 with 34

*Record since '76. I believe thats when they started recording it.

I was going to vote No but his stats are better than I expected. I'm on the fence about this one. One courageous act that 80% of people would have done doesn't automatically put you in. I need to see/think more.

My ass... you're crazy if you think that 80% of people would have ran up to a burning car, kicked the window open and dragged the passenger to safety. Nonetheless, play in a football game days later with 22 stitches in his leg.

I doubt you would even get into your crawlspace with 22 stitches... ;)

I'd kick the window in of a burning car that might have a person in it before I'd get in my crawl space and it's not even a question. Whether or not I'd be strong enough to actually kick it in is, but I'd absolutely try and I think almost everyone would.

The question should be koon is if Wooly was in a burning car, would you kick it in to save him?

I think you're absolutely wrong about this. Self preservation is human nature. We aren't talking about being alone with a stranger and they need help without any danger to the rescuer. We are talking about a car accident in public with clear and imminent danger to anyone that intervenes. Science has proven that this is an area where morality often fails.

Weak. Try harder.

He's a Patriot. That may be enough to stop some from making the right decision.

When I first saw his name I thought, no way. Then I read some of his credentials and the needle moved slightly to the Yes side.

He doesn't have the rewards or anything but to me, the graduation, four year starter, reasonably high rankings in those stat categories, went on to the NFL and became a Super Bowl champion (thanks Brady), and shows good character by his actions. Why not right?

I won't link to the TMZ story per board requests, but they haven't been able to corroborate the Fleming story and neither apparently has the Boston Globe.

He's always been a class act so I believe his story, but I honestly probably wouldn't if this weren't an ND-guy. How often do we hear of athletes having seemingly "innocent" injuries that turn out to be the opposite?

What is worse, a fake girlfriend or a fake heroic act?

Pretty tough to top Manti. Depends what the fake heroic act was. Falling when drunk or slipping on ice is one thing. He's one of the bottom guys on the active roster and the Pats aren't exactly shy about cutting guys. It's one thing to be Chandler Jones and do something stupid and go to the hospital....it's a completely different thing to be a backup and do it.

If it's covering up something criminal then it's way worse than Te'o although won't get the social media attention.

So your opinion is that it's entirely about on field performance?

Got it...

You voted no for Eifert, Teo and Alan Page... We get it... You think the entire thing is a joke.

It should be 90% on the field performance at the least. It's a HOF for football players not good citizens

I'm confused, here. If Fleming is #4 All Time at ND with 14 sacks, then how can Tuitt, who has more, be way down at #95?

und.com's bio for Darius lists him as having 11.5 sacks for his career:

Darius Fleming Bio :: Notre Dame Football :: UND.COM :: The Official Site of Notre Dame Athletics

Not sure, maybe und is only listing solo sacks? There are multiple sources that have him at 14.5 sacks, including sports reference, which seems to be most accurate.

Darius Fleming Stats | College Football at Sports-Reference.com

Regarding Tuitt, that's #95 in all of college football, not Notre Dame. That's why he's listed with non ND players. To show where being #4 at ND sits in comparison to all time in college football. Tuitt is #2 all ND I believe.

Now that I look at it closer, the und.com bio doesn't cover anything for his senior year (2011). That's the disconnect.

You know what? Never mind. I just noticed that you voted No for Alan Page. So there's obviously NO ONE you would vote yes for, no matter what they did on the field.

Voted no and I am prepared to feel the wrath! Just don't think he has enough to be in the group of HOF at ND. Besides him saving a woman from a car what has he done prior to that? I know that makes me sound like a jerk but alot of the other people that are being judged for the HOF are great reflections of what I want a ND man to be on and off the field.

For the record before the hate flows through you all I voted like this for the following:

Yes
Ken MacAfee
Tyler Eifert
Alan Page
Brady Quinn
Manti Teo

No
John Goodman
David Grimes

I just don't think this should be the good ole boys club. It was mentioned that he was a Super Bowl Champion but what was his contribution to that championship?
