Recruiting Rundown: The Harrison star had an interesting recruitment, but found his home in October of 2015. The 6-foot-3, 250-pounder had given a commitment to Michigan State last winter, but that only lasted until the Kareem family returned from East Lansing. They decided it was premature and decommitted the same day. In the summer, Kareem pulled the trigger to play for Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide, but as fall approached, it was clear Kareem and his mother were having second thoughts. The desire to play in front of his family helped the Irish secure the four-star prospect and Kareem is currently enrolled in classes at Notre Dame.
Harrison HC John Herrington: “He just had the ability to read the offensive schemes and get to the ball. He’s got all of the things coaches are looking for in college. He’s almost 6-5 and 255 pounds right now… A lot of coaches in college have told me they’re looking for defensive tackles with his speed and size and there aren’t that many around believe it or not.”
Expert Analysis From Uyeyama: Kareem is an advanced player at this stage of his development and that’s not only going to help him get on the field earlier, but also allow him to get better quicker because he doesn’t have as long of a list of things he needs to drastically improve or to learn from scratch.
His athletic ceiling may not be as high as some other edge rushers, but his floor is also a lot higher. I think he’s an outstanding prospect who will likely start out as a strong-side end and could end up moving inside to the three-technique. It would be surprising to me if he did not see the field this fall.
