Pass. Would prefer the Hawaii layup instead, thanks. The point of a 13th game is to stay relevant in the CFP race, not add another hurdle.

I hear ya but Hawaii does nothing for you except increasing the opportunity of injury. It's worthless to the committee.

A win gets you extra bargaining chips with the committee, a loss just means you belong in the Champs Bowl.

Anyways, an 8 team playoff is coming. Too much money being left on the table in those other 4 games... and the fans want them.

While I have advocated the eight team playoff format, I don't see it coming anytime soon. There were a lot of complaints from fans this season with all the travel expenses of seeing the playoff games, especially after having to travel to a CCG on top of that.

I think we will see a change soon where the #1 and #2 teams will play their first playoff game at their home place. Either that or the NCG becomes nothing more than a corporate outing. Most NCG's are already there... the atmosphere is lacking in genuine fan support at the game.

The argument for the B12 going to a CCG as far as Notre Dame is concerned, I think it is much like NDWorld247 has stated. The advantage or disadvantage is going to depend on the year and how other conferences and ND have performed.

I see the pros of playing the 13th game in Hawaii, but overall, it doesn't do enough for the Irish to be worth the headache. Would a dominating win over Hawaii done a thing for Notre Dame this season? No. The Irish being 11-2 instead of 10-2 wouldn't have mattered at all and wouldn't have jumped them into the top 4. Playing the game with Hawaii just opens the possibility for injuries and/or a WTF loss. Even a close, sloppy win would be a negative for the Irish. The risk outweighs the reward.

I just think the mindset of it as a nice, warm way to end the season, and mentioning that during recruiting, opens itself to some 20-13 victory and we actually drop spots in the final week while losing at least 1 player for the year for injury. Pass all day IMO.

It's more money anyway you slice it because of broadcasting.

I think the first 2 rounds of games should be played at the highest seed's stadiums, regardless of weather. I'm a Chicago guy, I get so sick of the "it's cold" talk on Saturday and 24hrs later their pro team is playing in front of a packed house in 0 degree weather. It's football, nut up & bundle up.

ND will be fine, they just have to win and things will work in their favor. We were scared that Oklahoma would jump us last year but we forgot that ND had to win against Stanford first. Key thing is: Do your job.

I agree. Play at the two highest seeds and then the NCG wherever. I would love to see a NCG in Chicago, NYC, etc. That would be pretty cool as long as it is in a football stadium like Soldier Field or Giant Stadium.

What is UC hiding about Big 12 Conference?

So basically, local Cincy reporters were trying to get info from UC about travel records for UC's president and AD, so that they could put together a story about UC's effort to find a new home.

With the Big XII holding their annual meetings late this week, the school has suddenly stopped communicating with the Enquirer and reporters. The inference is that UC may be on the cusp of a Big XII invite, and they don't want anything to leak and put things in jeopardy in any way.

The Enquirer is pissed, and the denial of a records request is shady considering UC is public... but this makes me cautiously optimistic that UC might be on their way to the Big XII, and the conference has asked them to keep it wrapped up.

I also like the anecdotal evidence based on President Ono's Tweet. He's an extremely likable guy, and a good follow on Twitter. (He makes me wish I attended UC.) So, it wouldn't surprise me if he was just trolling the UC population. But it also wouldn't surprise me if he was dropping a super-subtle hint.

Cincinnati reporters/sports personalities being super shady and posting completely random tweets about the Big XII meetings that mean nothing.

Either they are trolling, or there is something afoot.

There's a good chance we don't get in even with a win over Stanford. We were behind OU going into that week. OU played OSU that same week, it's doubtful we would have jumped them in that scenario given Stanford had more losses.

It may be time to join the ACC. Independence is nice, but we can still play an ACC schedule and keep Stanford/USC in the mix. I assume we keep Navy too, so the only rival we really miss in that scenario is the B1G teams.

Hawaii hasn't always been a layup. I remember a very good Holtz coached team winning a 48-42 nail-biter in '91. And ND pulled out a 23-22 win in '97. Both games were played in late November.
The 13th game exception (12th game when the normal schedule was 11) for Hawaii has been in place for a long time.
I like Bug's thinking, but the cons probably outweigh the pros. ND just needs to win all of their big games and not have more than one loss.

Bring on the 8-team playoff!
