I nominate Manti Te'o.

Lott, Maxwell, Bednarik, Nagurski, Butkus, Lombardi, Walter Camp award winner in 2012.

Second place in the 2012 Heisman.

Led 2012 team to the National championship game.

3rd all time in school history with 437 tackles. Started 47 games and was a captain.

Played all 4 years and graduated. Was a model citizen off the field and a leader on it. Was the victim of an elaborate hoax and brought negative attention to the University but we all make mistakes and everything else outweighs this incident.

Notre Dame Man.

Note: Use this thread as a model for other nominees. They should all follow the "IE HOF Poll: ________ format. You must include a poll with "Notre Dame Man YES" and "Notre Dame Man NO" . You must make votes public or the thread will be deleted. You should also have the poll close 7 days after creation.

He was absolutely incredible in 2012, outside the Bama game. Which I understand, as he had a lot on his mind.

Is there any Notre Dame fan in his right mind who would vote "no" on Manti?

I would hope note. Votes are public though so we will know who it is and shame them.

While I wouldn't agree with it, I would understand why someone would vote no because of the fake gf scandal. That was incredibly embarrassing for the university and our fanbase. It wouldn't be outlandish for someone to feel that situation disqualifies him for our highest IE honor.

I voted yes, so this isn't my view. I just think if someone does feel that way, that they shouldn't be shamed for view a ton of people outside our fanbase has for Teo.

Well it was between him and a scumweasel who had one good game and two bad ones against the three best teams he played, so all the reasonable votes went to Manti and all the votes from people who watched one game went to the affluenza case.

Like I said I never looked at the vote tally. I just know it's really hard for a defensive player to win, especially when he doesn't return kicks. So to see that he had over 300 votes shocked me a little. He was more than deserving of being there. Just never knew the tally.

Why'd you vote 'NO'? Just curious. Not mad.

Well I want polls to be created by people who actually want to nominate and vote for those people. I would not vote yes for either guy although I am looking forward to that poll so we can get some real debate going.

I agree. I was kidding about the shaming.

I think the respective bowl games showed that Manziel deserved it. Nothing against Te'o, but I don't think you deserve the Heisman if you get trampled in the biggest game of the year and your defense that you lead looks like a MAC defense. I know he had a lot on his mind and that Diaco's defense was asking to get shredded, but looking back on it after that game, I did not feel like Te'o got snubbed at all in the voting.

You may have some idiots out there who are members but just like to troll.

In this case, those two. Especially if they don't post their reasoning as to why for what, IMO, was suppose to be a unanimous vote of Yes

If Te'o falling victim to a hoax set up by an insane Trojan fan is enough to disqualify him, I don't think any player in recent memory will make the cut. So while they shouldn't be "shamed" for that opinion, it's fair to question what sort of criteria they're applying if not even Te'o meets their standard.

Speaking of standards, have we described what "Notre Dame Man" means? Is it: (1) displaying excellence on the football field; (2) embodying ND's values off the football field; or (3) some combination of the two? Unless someone is advocating for the 2nd standard, and disqualifying any candidate that doesn't appear pure as the driven snow, I can't see Te'o failing to make the cut under any of them.

Being an outsider here, I have chosen to not participate in the whole process of voting for players. That's for the Irish fans. It will be interesting reading nonetheless and I look forward to seeing each nominee comments and the results.

Noble choice TTT, reps for a respectable decision.

I could easily see how someone would feel that his scandal disqualifies him based on #2. There are plenty of people, not only outside our fanbase, but within it that believe that Teo knew that she was fake well before the title game and lied to maintain the "grieving hero". That deception, if one felt it was true, would certainly not be up to the standards of the values Notre Dame represents.

Regarding those standards being high, that same person may feel that they absolutely should be. That the moniker is the highest honor, and by definition, extremely exclusive. Left only for those that absolutely nailed all three of the criteria.

Again... Just so nobody gets it twisted, I voted yes for Teo.
