Advanced Stats Breakdown: Irish Regular Season Offense - One Foot Down

You can make a strong, objective argument that the Notre Dame running game was the best in the nation.

While not quite as spectacular as the running game, the Irish passing attack has still been excellent, even with a lack of experience at quarterback. Opponent-adjusted numbers look even more favorably on the passing games explosiveness and efficiency, and I think one of the more encouraging things to see was how well Zaire and Kizer played under the spotlight.

From that article. Watching it in real time was impressive. But when you can watch it a few times in a row? My god, the speed burst from Adams at about the 45-yard line, when it looked like #11 was going to catch him... You can literally see Adams hitting his second gear and just running away. Amazing.

I always wonder if better conditions against Clemson would've let us torch their defense OR if the bad conditions helped us because their offense was as conservative as it gets.

But that was our most simplistic, predictable game plan on the ground (at that point we had no idea if Kizer was capable of carrying the team) and Clemson simply loaded the box + attacked. With 16 days of prep, they were also clued in. Other teams haven't been able to do that, because when you do Will Fuller does what he does and takes the top off. The deep threat that was there in every other game was completely mitigated by the rain. But I think it goes without saying that if we had gotten to play Clemson in round 1 of the playoffs that there is not a chance they would've held our running game in check like they did earlier in the season.

Yeah. The mis-direction on that play is incredible. We've literally scored on every option...the toss (technically pass) to the motion man, the keeper, and the RB hand off. You could run that play 50% of the time and the defense would still have troubles.
