Charlie Weis Pays Justin Trattou A Visit
January 23rd, 2007 Frankie V

Notre Dame defensive end commit Justin Trattou threw Irish fans a curve ball when he visited Florida this past weekend. Charlie Weis was quick to visit Trattou, however, as he was seen on Don Bosco Prep’s campus Monday.

From SI.com:

Defensive end Justin Trattou, who gave Notre Dame an oral commitment on a nationally televised stage from the ESPN Zone in Times Square in June, was down in Gainesville, Fla., last weekend to visit with the national champion Gators.

On Monday, Notre Dame head coach and Jersey native Charlie Weis was seen on Bosco’s campus, presumably to firm things up with Trattou.

Trattou is a huge recruit for Notre Dame this year and it’s not clear why he decided to visit Florida this late in the game. The uncertainty about what kind of defense the Irish will be running with new defensive coordinator Corwin Brown could have played a role in Trattou’s decision to visit.

If Notre Dame were to switch to a 3-4, Trattou could be concerned about where he would fit in. Still, the Irish should be fine here if for no other reason than because I don’t want to think about Notre Dame’s defensive recruiting class minus another defensive lineman.

A guy on DD said that JT is UF. Another guy said it's true and to look it up at NDNation. For some reason my computer won't let me look at NDNation. Can anyone verify this?

I'm all about wishing kids the best for their choices, but being the 5th UF DE, as opposed to possibly starting at ND. Blows my mind.

I don't know what to believe but on Rivals and Blue and Gold it says he is making the switch to Florida. I guess losing Minter has cost us another top flight d-player. This is why college football needs the early signing period just like college basketball, then you would'nt have all these decommitt's.

It hurts but we will be fine, Minter had to go, he was the reason we didn't land the likes of guys like Edwards, Martin, and Donald as far as I', concerned... obviously the "Charlie will turn us around as quick as Pete Carroll and Bob Stoops" talk can end, but we are still going no where but up...

It's official... the switch to 3-4 played a big role.

As cut-throat as recruiting can be, why would they even tell a verbally committed recruit about the change to 3-4 before signing day.....seriously!

Because we are not Houston Nutt and Arkansas... I'd rather this happen than the fiasco that happened down there because some kids were lied to.

True, but 18yr olds are impulsive. Honesty didn't help this time....

lol. I was upset until I read this. Don't know if it was meant to be funny but still brightened up my night.

Time to switch to the 2-5 I think. One defensive tackle and Kerry Neal. Go Kerry ... Drills are gonna be lonely

FYI, Trattou was really impressive in the Army game. He hurried the QB on a few occasions and knocked down a couple of passes. Not bashing you, just stating facts and yes I'm sorry I'm a lil pissed right now so forgive me. He is currently in Florida as I have now signed up for the new flightware thing, thanks ACamp! He's been there a lot recently. I think CW and Meyer absolutely hate eachother.

Look at it this way.One more spot open for a kid that wants to be ND.
Those who don't move on.That simple.Notre Dame has survived much
tougher things then a 18 year old backing out of a committment.
Remember The speech Norman Dale Gave In Hooiser's?

If he can be swayed by one measily national championship and one coach with a weird name.....let him go. I'm drunk, be kind.

Well, this sucks. He was probably the one defensive recruit coming in that I was most looking forward to seeing Irish. Oh well, you win some and you lose some. Good luck at Florida Trat.
