About not going after Haskins if Edsel got fired -

Wasn't that when we weren't trying to scare off Hunter Johnson, though?

Why is ND considering a pro style qb? That isnt BK's system. Makes no sense why we would even spend the resources recruiting someone that is efficient in a system that we dont run.

Is like recruiting a NG with zero ability to move in a 4-3 defense that relies on DL for pass rush.

Guess you think Kizer is a running qb?

Maryland needs to get a top coach, not the next maybe from Sun Belt U. There is no reason they can't be the Oregon of the East with their close affiliation with UA, just like Oregon has with Nike.

If they want to go cheap, Bryan Harsin at Boise is the answer, he only makes about $1M. Next, both Dana Holgorsen and Mark Stoops make about $3M.

What makes the most sense is to shell out $7M for Chip Kelly if you can get him to leave (since that's the talk around here at IE). Chip knows how to turn a Shoe U. into a national title contender. Tell Plank to pony up and make it happen, I'm sure there is nothing else that'd make him happier than to have Phil's former architect as his lap dog.

I doubt MD ponies the money for Chip.

Why would Chip Kelly go to Maryland? That's an average-below average job among Power 5 schools. Texas, Georgia, Miami, Tennessee, and South Carolina all have at least a chance of being open after this season - I'd bet money at least one of them is - and they're all wayyyyyy better jobs than Maryland.

I don't disagree. With the talent that is in MD,NJ,A,DC,northern DE, a good recruiting coach could get some talent and be competitive with Ohio state, and Michigan State. Maryland shoulder have never hired him in the first place.

Chip would coach in the CFL before he coached Maryland.

Whether or not Maryland can afford it, or what their football tradition is or what other jobs are currently better... those are not the questions. It all rides on what Kevin Plank is willing to put into the program. If he were to follow exactly in Phil Knight's footsteps I'll give you 4 billion reasons why anything is possible at Maryland.

Forbes Mag - Damn, Kevin Plank is rich!

Think back to what Oregon was until Phil opened up the checkbook and started using the Ducks as his on air laboratory.

Maryland is in the purgatory state of college football schools that's too well cemented to get out of, that either:

1) Don't have enough tradition to ever compete consistently, and 2) If they do compete in one year, that coach is gone.

Say what you want about ND's relevance in the past 20 years, but thank God I follow a school that's a landing spot rather than a stepping stone.

...and Kevin Plank destroys all that with the stroke of a pen. Not saying it will happen but it easily could. Plus TCU, Baylor and Utah are in the Top 5. Therefore, anything is possible even before you throw stacks from a ego driven billionaire at it.

Ralph Fregant did a good job there. They should have never fired him.

Most people around here think he is going to decommit.

Be interested to see if Danny Clark sticks at OSU if Haskins joins their class

I actually think this was a bad move for the kid.

As a QB, its smart to go somewhere that you know you are going to play, unless you are sure that you fit into their plans perfectly.

Meyer wants to play run the read-option, and this kid is as Pro-style as they come. Penn State, Florida, etc.

Urban flipped two Maryland commits this weekend

And picked up that Florida wide receiver

I'd say that's a pretty solid weekend

Great prospect. Interesting to see how Urban adapts to Haskins, because he doesn't fit what OSU does at all.

Urban hasn't really had true WR's at Florida or OSU, so Mack/Victor coming in gives him something that can expand his offense.

Good pickup for OSU, but itll be interesting to see how the offense changes when Barrett leaves.

Michael Thomas and Devin Smith were "true WR's".

Good QB prospect, but not a great fit for what Urban wants to do on offense.

This is why you don't take that job DJ Durkin. Impossible to compete at Maryland if you can't keep the in-state/DC talent at home.

He's an 8-4 season and bowl game win away from getting a bigger job

Not like he has to win championships to make them happy

He won't be there long

Oh I agree that he won't be there long. Might be hard to get to 8-4 if he can't keep the talent home though. If he has any measure of success there he's gone and off to a bigger and better job. No doubt about that.

I don't think he's a great X's and O's guy or DC, he's not much more than average in that department imo, but he can recruit his ass off and players love him. I think DJ Durkin will wind up making a better head ball coach than co-ordinator. I am a big fan of his.
