why not the whole year for all home games?whites with green numbers for road games?

I think this is a great idea.

I offered this post in a forum on the Evil Empire board, and was shot down. I know the blue jerseys are a classic look, but I would love to see us adopt the green. It would be great to walk into the stadium and see a sea of Irish green. I'm not asking for us to look like the Oregon bananas, but I think our fans look too non-descript because there is not 1 color that overwhelms you when you enter the stadium, with the expection of the student section. I am envious of the Nebraska/Tennessee atmosphere, we can make it happen at ND!

how about just win the GOD damn game in their regular jerseys and getting that monkey off their back.

Green, black, white, blue, gold jerserys don't run and execute the plays or make them play any better. Just win the f'n game.

The last time we won in green, IIRC, was the Sugar Bowl against Florida (road whites with green numbers and sock trim).

If it geeks the team up emotionally to pin their ears back and play fast and loose with nothing to lose, I don't care if they wear pink tutus.

cough cough....talk about lecturing!

I was addressing the clueless that displayed a complete lack of knowledge of the history of ND jerseys. Congratulations on joining them.

Rockne was known as a master motivator now it turns out it he didn't know the traditional school colors. Should all the games Leahy Lads played in green be forfeited for misrepresenting the school? Should the Heismans be returned by the winners that wore the wrong school colors?

Nice leap of logic.

Leap of logic? Those were rhetorical questions. Note the question marks.

Way I understood some of the posts was that they should either use them full-time or only rarely.

Again, I was addressing the "clueless".

Use them every time you come into a game as an underdog and it has no motivational effect.

Were they used every time ND was an underdog? Are you colored blind or don't you watch many ND games? Was ND only an underdog in the less than a dozen games where green jerseys have been worn in the past 25 years?

Green jerseys were worn a couple of times in the more than 320 games over the past 25 years since Devine outfitted the team in green for 1980 home games. Amazing how you can inflate that to every time and have the balls to toss out "leap of logic"?

Rockne used them home and away as did Leahy. They had superior talent AND superior COACHING and they used every motivational tool available. But I'll bet they won a lot of games because they weren't mediocre coaches like Davie and Willingham not because of the color of the uniforms. (But I covered that before it you bothered to read and comprehend.)

Not only that but it makes the team look like they're depending on voodoo to win the game and not the actual play on the field. Nice nod to the opponent that you already don't think you can beat them with talent.

Hungup on the Willingham thing, aren't you? He dressed the team in green for BC to honor the ND fans. Pssst, ND was favored in that game. Ty and Davie had trouble beating opponents in any color ND wore.

Weis used green as a motivational tool in '05 against a vastly superior talented USC team and actually had the game won before a series of bad calls and a no call in the last minute changed the outcome of the game. Shame on you, Charlie for motivating the Trojans!

Then he used them against a team when ND was a prohibitive favorite. Your flawed logic does work there either, does it?

Make it the official "third jersey" and you'll have alot of fans thinking we're on the way to becoming Oregon of the Midwest.
"Oregon of the Midwest"???

Right, the school that has no athletic dorms, no names on the jerseys, no patterned endzones, no jumbotron, no stickers on the helmets, no Phil Knight slush funds, but does have a history of embracing the past and "shaking down the thunder".

Green Jerseys have been worn by ND athletes in every decade since the 20's.

Only your warped mind could find a similarity between Notre Dame and Nike U.

And by the way, Madonna Blue is correct.<!-- / message -->

I don't care what color scheme Charlie choses. I'm more concerned about the offensive adn defensive schemes HE choses.

Won't happen. LSU is considered the home team, except that LSU prefers to wear their white jerseys for both home AND away games. That pushes Notre Dame into the role of wearing dark jerseys... probably blue-and-white, but green-and-gold is not outside the realm of possibility.

Of course, LSU has a few jersey tricks of their own... every now and then, they pull out purple jerseys for a home game and make the away team wear white, though I haven't heard of any plans to do so for this year's Sugar Bowl.

And in the Independence Bowl between LSU and Notre Dame in 1997, the circumstances were similar: LSU planned to wear their "home whites" and Notre Dame wore blue, but right before kickoff LSU took the unprecedented move of replacing their white jerseys with "gold" ones. (They also replaced their yellow helmets for white ones.) The yellow was still light enough to contrast with Notre Dame's blue jerseys. The jersey ploy worked: LSU won 27-9 and got revenge for their regular-season 24-6 loss to Notre Dame in Baton Rouge six weeks earlier.

...

Just did some research for the hell of it, and found this on Wikipedia. Turns out that LSU wears white for home games so that they can stay cooler playing under the hot Southern sun, forcing their opponent to wear darker (and hotter) jerseys. By NCAA rules, they have to get permission from the visiting team to wear white at a home game... unless it's an SEC game, in which case the SEC's jersey rules take precedence. By the SEC's rules, the home team gets to choose whether to wear light or dark jerseys and doesn't need to ask for the visitor's permission. Which brings up this fun bit of trivia from that Wikipedia page...

Florida twice took advantage of this rule under former coach Steve Spurrier and wore white at home (in Gainesville) against LSU, forcing LSU to wear its purple jerseys in a daytime game in 2000 won by the Gators, 41-9.

And by the way, Madonna Blue is correct.

Based on that, the only "correct" jerseys were Faust's the first three years he coached.

Of course, he also changed jerseys at halftime against SC his last year, too.

green or navy?

green or navy?

Burn them. Our colors are blue and gold. The green jerseys have been forever tainted by the likes of Davie and Willingham.

This is one tradition that I would like to see die.

Wow! Kinda stong feeling there....

I wouldn't put it quite the same way, but in general, I agree.

But the clueless won't let those facts stand in the way of their revisionist tradition.

yeah, that's true...

If you look back through ND history, you see a mix of colors and jersies. None are "right" per se.

And as you mentioned before, I don't care about the colors...I care about the schemes and winning the damn game.

I like green jerseys were 1-0 this year why not again charlie

Wearing Green in the USC game last year was proper, USC cheated with the Bush-Push so I don't look at that as bad as when Davie and Ty would wear them.

I hope the tradition is put where it belongs, back in the biggest games were wearing them is to die for!

No matter how much people talk about hating the green jerseys, you have to admit, the style that Charlie put into them the last 2 years is sweet. The gold on dark green combo is stunning I think. They are my favorite jerseys in all of college football other than maybe Oregon, haha.
