Why would he have to sit out next year? Wouldn't he have to only sit out the first few games since he actually played those this year?

I honestly don't know the rules, but he definitely loses a year here because it's to late to transfer for the fall. So the question is will the NCAA deem him as sitting out a full year even though he played one game. I could see them saying he played a game and had a scholarship but he quit. Even though he quit he would have to sit out next year to be eligible to play two years from now. IDK. I never thought they would allow Vanderdoes to leave ND...

It's weird but even though he had mono there were rumors that he showed up late to practice and was uninvolved to say the least. Honestly I could see Mora playing him in that game even though he missed most of camp, out of spite to keep/deter him from transferring (speculation).

I went back and looked at an explain of transfer rules.:

He meets the requirements of a transfer student athlete because he trained and played with the football team.

Since he is a transfer student his one year academic adjustment period begins when he enrolls in a another school. Obviously if he enrolled and transferred into a JC he could play for them then move back to FBS the following year. There is no indication he has enrolled anywhere, just that he is home and has played a game this year.

If so he can't enroll until Spring which means his clock starts then and summers don't count so the earliest he could play would be two springs from now and therefore two falls from now, competitvely.

Maybe there is some hardship he could get or such but that is how I read the transfer rules.

After reading these posts the last day and a half, this thought started to cross my mind. Why else would you play a guy who is physically unprepared, with poor work ethic, and suspect attitude?(also speculating)

His hardship is that he is an entitled punk. Or entitled puke. I'll apologize if we find out that there is more to the story.

Thanks for keeping track for me. I still think he will have a NFL future, but leaving ucla after 2 weeks is a bug red flag. Idk what you want me to say? That you called it and I was blind to the obvious? I don't think it was obvious to anyone that he would quit ucla after 2 weeks. If it was, good for whoever predicted that.

Koon, on this one I think people were able to get a pretty good feel for the kid's character based not only on the decommitments, but in some instances the manner in which he appeared to go about it coupled with some of his behaviors and what seemed to be his motivators in decision making. He does not seem to be really grounded with good solid priorities and certainly does not seem the least bit humble which is evident in some of his twitter nonsense and the recruiting tactics that actually appealed to him. I dont think there is any one singular event or occurrence that lead people to draw these conclusions about the kid, but more the the whole sequence of behaviors over the past year that painted the big picture pretty clearly.

Or, he knew he was going to leave, so Mora plays him knowing it will require him to sit out a year. Mora's way of sticking it to him as opposed to trying to keep him from transferring.

If it's like the old days, he doesn't even have to be enrolled in class at a juco this semester to be eligible at a Div I school in '16. He just needs to pass 24 hours before he enrolls at whatever program that'll take him in '16. Take 18 hours in the spring and 2 sprint / mini session classes and he'd be done like Vernon Adams was at E. Washington before joining Oregon.

If he doesn't and goes straight to another Div I program in Jan., he's not playing until '17 as a redshirt sophomore.

....that is unless his grandmother developed a gnarly hang nail back in Jersey, he transfers to Rutgers and her maiden name was Vandersomething.

I was unsure of the credits and such but the explanation I read seemed to consider the academic adjustment period a full year. Not disagreeing just clarifying I don't know. Anyway I don't understand leaving the program one game into a season without enrolling elsewhere costing him possibly two years. Very bad decision all in all.

Clark struggled to catch on at UCLA. He was sidelined for the first week of camp because of mononucleosis. To begin the second practice, he was also on the receiving end of a profanity-filled tirade from Mora, who scolded the tight end for arriving late to practice with a cell phone in hand.

At one point during the public tongue-lashing, which went on for several minutes, Mora told Clark he would drive him to the airport so he could transfer to Rutgers or a junior college.

So it sounds to me like Mora played him to intentionally impact his eligibility at another D1 school, amirite?

haha yeah i like to post there but i get downvoted all the time for calling out SEC fans on their BS, check out the Laramy Tunsil thread on there where Ole Miss fans were telling me "cheating is part of the culture" down south and they didn't see anything wrong with it.

Interesting thread, gentlemen.

On one hand an amoral coach gets his just deserts.

On another, a fan-base of a school, who has been at best a 'bridesmade.' and is about to get stoned because of so many violations, they can't or don't even bother to hide them anymore, speaks to the advantages of amoral living!

Here's to 'em all may they rot in the bile produced by their cankerous livers!

(Was I too easy on any of them?)

I don't blame Mora for giving him a hard time for being late.

But the part about driving him to the airport is uncalled for and shows what many believe that Mora is a grade a a-hole.

I don't see what the big deal is about offering to drive him to the airport. Clearly he was just trying to get a point across, maybe light a dire under his arse. Whatever, nothing to see there. As for possibly playing him just to screw with his eligibility, now THAT might be something to look into. Not that we'll ever know the truth.

This is my favorite (below). Mora tells these kids how great they are and how many back massages he'll give them when they get to UCLA. When finally on campus he ridicules them until he feels better about himself for giving his balls to an 18 year old kid.

At one point during the public tongue-lashing, which went on for several minutes, Mora told Clark he would drive him to the airport so he could transfer to Rutgers or a junior college.
