Big fan of this kid and is firmly entrenched in the second tier of DE's. Tier one is Josh Kind by himself, lol.

This kid has some real athleticism. 4.55 / 40 Sparq certified and from what I've seen, he could play DI basketball also. I'll take a state champion wrestler and state champion PF/C as my DE's any day of the week and twice on Saturdays in the fall.

Looks like a heavy Nebraska lean at the moment but he's gonna be on the market all June so who knows. Seems to be a pretty spiritual/religious kid, that doesn't hurt.

4.55 would be absolutely outstanding for a kid that size. If its real, the kid is a specimen.

It was Nike Sparq electronic timed at their Opening event in Dallas. As legit as you are gonna get outside of the NFL combine. Here's the vine.

I didn't know there was a problem. I watched some of the Opening last year and thought it looked legit. I thought Sanders came in where I thought he would and then I saw him in person and it reinforced that. Sorta figured Nike was trying to standardize the testing as they have entered in with Hudl to make it appear legit.

As a guy in who dabbled in track I can say I thought his 40 looked good, he covers ground with good strides. It's impossible to tell when the camera is moving...especially in a Vine but he doesn't struggle at full stride. I wouldn't have guessed 4.55 but I wouldn't have guessed much higher than a 4.65.

In regards to his vertical, it was measured at 31" and I saw some of his dunk vines that would lead me to believe he could do a little better than that. I didn't see how Nike tested verticals. No step... one step and unlimited deliver huge variations in results.

The way they test electronically at opening is: you place your foot on a sensor. Once your foot leaves this sensor the clock starts. When you cross the finish the time stops.

This can lead to low times as someone can be one full stride into the 40 yards before their foot leaves the sensor.

ESPN and Nike are hyping "freakish athleticism" of high schoolers at The Opening. Should we buy this?

visiting june 10 w/ mom per WILTFONG "That visit could be a game changer. An absolute stud here"

"Notre Dame is a really big time program, and I want to see what they have to offer," Kelly said. "I want to go check them out to see how I would be comfortable living there, and comfortable with the coaches and the players."

"He just said with my size and speed I could play a big factor on the defensive line," Kelly said. "They haven't said anything about strongside or weakside or anything, they just want me." - See more at: https://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1763329#sthash.Mpldfi3X.dpuf

Xavier Kelly didn’t expect his recruitment to explode after de-committing from Kansas State this spring.
When the four-star defensive end from Wichita, Kan., pulled back his verbal pledge he had about eight offers on the table. Now, after Penn State offered Monday, he holds 29.
Kelly credits the explosion of interest to his junior film and a strong performance at The Opening Regional in Dallas.
“I think I did pretty well there,” Kelly said. “I think that had a lot to do with the offers too. They saw my speed and they saw me do one-on-ones and stuff. I could kind of see where I’m at based off some of the best players in the nation. I could compare myself to them. There was NFL coaches coaching us so I learned a lot from them, a lot of different moves.”
Several of those programs have made their way through Wichita East High School in the last couple weeks to follow up.
Clemson, TCU, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Florida State and Notre Dame have all made a stop. Irish defensive line coach Keith Gilmore made the trek to Wichita and has been communicating regularly with Kelly since extending an offer.
“I actually have built a closer relationship with them,” Kelly said. “I just found out coach Gilmore, he’s from Detroit just like my dad is. We’ve got a lot of family up there too. We’ve got a closer relationship.”
Kelly has a visit to Notre Dame set for June 10 as part of a massive summer tour.
Other tentatively planned visits include Nebraska, Arkansas, Oklahoma State, TCU, Michigan, Michigan State, Clemson, Miami, Alabama and Ole Miss.
Collecting information during that period will be critical as Kelly plans a cut afterward.
“I just want to see where the graduation rate is and how comfortable I am at the school,” he said. “Then how I get along with the coaches and players. If I’ll have a chance to compete as a freshman and just have a chance to develop as a person and a player.”
Kelly will also assess his relationships with position coaches and primary recruiters as the spring moves forward.
“I think building a strong relationship with the position coach is really important,” Kelly said. “That’s who you’re gonna be working with on a daily basis. Building that relationship is crucial.”

Kelly will have plenty of proof to show him that he isn't afraid to play freshmen. Always a plus for us when Mom tags along.

"My dad actually has a notebook where we write everything down," Kelly said this past weekend at the Rivals Five-Star Challenge Presented by Under Armour in Baltimore. "We kind of rate the schools on different things. We actually rate it 1 to 10 on how stable the coaching staff is, what my chances of playing as a freshman are, how many players they have coming in — it's just research."

Gilmore was in Kansas twice during the spring evaluation period to check up on the defensive end, and Kelly said that gesture warranted a visit of his own.

"I know Notre Dame is top of the line with academics, so I'm excited to see what they have to offer academically. They are a big time football program too, so I'm excited about the whole things," Kelly said. "I would say I have a close relationship with Coach Gilmore. Once he found out my dad was from Detroit, he really started to like me a lot, because he's from Detroit too. We kind of have a bond there." - See more at: https://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1773645#sthash.75YAHCF2.dpuf

arrived this morning at 8 am and will stay through 2 pm. He's traveling with his father and his brother, who is getting some looks in basketball. I'm told Keith Gilmore will be attached to Xavier's hip along with other support staff members.

The family will then see Michigan State tonight before Xavier participates at the Sound Mind Sound Body in Detroit the next two days. Notre Dame will have coaches at the camp

Do we know which coaches? I believe Dantonio, Meyer, and Harbaugh will all be there. Would be nice for Kelly to be there. There will be a lot of talent present

MSU isn't the threat here, everybody in college football is, lol.

First word out of BGI is that the visit went really really well. The visit went better than his father could've imagined. They spent a lot of time with Kelly, Gilmore, and BVG.

Sounds like we might have sealed the deal if mom would have been along. Regardless things appear to be very promising.

I think we are a long ways off from that. As of now its 5 OV's and announcing at the end of the season. So, this was more about impressing in hopes of getting that OV.

One of my guys is a KState grad, and said all the folks on their boards think ND will be the landing spot. No insider stuff, just what seems to be spewing and going around.
