Heard that teams were waiting on some academic news. Duke's offer seems to tell me that it is in. When you watch his tape, remember it's against Serra, Bishop Amat, Crespi, Notre Dame, Chaminade and Alemany in the Mission League. Probably the best conference in the country next fall.

I've read at the UM boards that he's near the top of their CB board or is the top.

Yeah, they identified him early and showed him a lot of love. He is just on the cusp of the SC want list which is what matters. Any national brand like ND and Michigan have to let USC fire that first set of salvo's to a couple of CB's and S's then go after CB & Safeties #3-#5 HARD (if they want them). Let them know SC doesn't think they were good enough for an opening offer and you will only get leftover love from them going forward.

Michigan did a good job with that thinking in regards to Long.

"It was unexpected," Long said with a laugh. "I hadn't had any contact with them since LaFluer left, so I wasn't expecting anything going into my recruitment with them, at all."

rish are late to the party with the timing of the offer, he said that he still plans to give them a look, and for multiple reasons.

"Notre Dame is one of those schools that regardless of when they come in, you have to give them some type of attention, just because of the tradition behind it and what it can offer you as far as networking, especially down here in Los Angeles," Long said.

"It's a really big offer to me, because they came and started recruiting me my sophomore year. Of course it's a big name that you see, but like I said, with the tradition they established, and the type of environment that they are in, it something that mimics what Loyola has, and it's something that I like, so that's that I can see myself being a part of."

10.67 in the 100m dash and will run this weekend in state qualifiers.

"I was direct messaging with him right after he left, and pretty much he just said that of course they got to me late, but he's really excited about me as a person and as a player because of my speed," Long said when asked about Denbrock. "He said that Loyola has a good surrounding environment and the type of football we play if pretty much similar to what they do out there in South Bend."

"I have really had the time to make trips," Long said. "A majority of my time on Saturdays are filled with meets or school and football stuff, that's why I'm going to way until the summer to kind of look at schools."

"I haven't really event talked to my mom — I don't think she knows about the offer yet — but once I do that I'll figure what I'm going to do this summer, because I plan to take some unofficial visits after track season is done with."

The 6-0, 170-pound Long is ranked as the No. 41 prospect in the state of California. He carries a 3.5 GPA and was a All-State First Team Junior selection by CalHiSports.com. He was also named a top defensive performer at the Rivals Camp Series in Los Angeles this past weekend. - See more at: https://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1766096#sthash.Cma8kzLd.dpuf

"I've spoke with him prior to this and he's a great guy and his rap sheet matches up with that as well," Long said when asked about VanGorder. "He's another coach who has a good relationship with my head coach so the type of coaching I would get at ND is the same at Loyola. The way I see it, is Notre Dame is just my high school at the collegiate level as far as the competition and coaching experience I would be exposed to."

Notre Dame likes Long as a cornerback but is recruiting him as an "athlete." He hasn't set a date to visit Notre Dame this summer, but said that it's looking like he might make the trip.

Apparently BVG and his coach are friends, they've known each other for a long time. We've made a pretty good impression early and will probably get a summer visit.

"[Notre Dame] is a school that I'm really interested in," Long said. "Stanford doesn't offer an undergraduate business school so that's something that I'm definitely looking in to, and I was also really interested in Notre Dame all my sophomore year. They would come around, [assistant coach] Matt LaFleur before he left for the Falcons, he recruited me really hard, so I like them a lot." - See more at: https://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1781707#sthash.K4wQRqEj.dpuf

Scout: Cali corner targets ND visit

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Four-star cornerback David Long wants to see Notre Dame and Michigan before making a decision, although it’s not a necessity. He hopes to be off the board next month.

BEAVERTON, Ore. - David Long wants to take care of some unfinished recruiting business before putting a bow on the process.

Notre Dame and Michigan could be the beneficiaries of that in the next month if the four-star cornerback from Los Angeles gets his wish. Long would like to visit both before making a verbal commitment before the end of August.

“I was planning on maybe committing in the next four weeks,” Long said. “Probably before my senior season. I still want to see a few schools, Notre Dame and Michigan. Oregon as well. I’m not sure about that but I have visited some schools. Local schools, plus Stanford and Washington.”

Long communicates with the Notre Dame staff on a regular basis. He touches base with the Irish “about every other day” including defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder.

He’s also evaluated VanGorder’s defensive scheme in terms of its potential fit plus what Notre Dame brings to the table off the field. Notre Dame’s Mendoza College of Business stands out.

“Coach VanGorder is a really good coach,” Long said. “He’s been in the NFL and coached some really good guys. I like the way they run their defense and the way that they’ll use me is similar to the way they use me out here, nickel and perimeter guy. Notre Dame offers a very good education. Stanford is one of my schools but they don’t offer an undergraduate business degree. Notre Dame does, so that’s something I’m definitely looking at.”

Stanford, UCLA, USC and Washington are the West Coast programs firmly in the mix.

UCLA and USC have been recruiting Long since his sophomore year, although the Trojans just recently offered a scholarship. Stanford was a childhood favorite, plus Long is friends with Cardinal quarterback commitment K.J. Costello, also at The Opening this week.

The Cardinal is winning the familiarity race with Long.

“Definitely Stanford,” he said. “UCLA has been on me really hard since my sophomore year. I have a really good relationship with the whole staff. The running backs coach is the former coach at my high school. I know that staff really well. SC, I’ve been around there since my sophomore year but they just offered so they just really started recruiting me in the last few months. Stanford is the same thing but I’ve been up there. K.J. Costello is on my team and is really recruiting me to go there. It’s a school I really like and loved growing up.”

Getting out to see the Midwest programs and compare them against those back home might be a priority, but it’s not a necessity.

“I think I could be comfortable making a decision,” Long said. “But I definitely don’t want to rush anything without seeing everything I want to see. But I could definitely make a commitment without taking all those visits.”

rivals states that it isn't a done deal to pac-12 especially stanford as there are "some things" that could delay his decision...they won't specify what the some things are but stated don't be surprised for ND to get a visit

Next to McKinley, he's been my 'realistic' #1 in the California '16 class since the beginning.

ND needs a David Long every 2 years, if you like Cole Luke, you'll like David Long as Long is just a faster version of CL. If ND can get him, he'll be no worse than the #3 corner his freshman year. I hope he sees the path to the field at ND is clear for him and if Luke and the Irish have a killer season, he may be gone too, that's by no means outside the realm of possibility. That puts him on the field even more.

SC really dropped the ball on him. I think he is on the outside of the Amat - Serra circle with Vaughn, Sidney, Burton & Pollard who have always been SC's poster child(s) for this class.

Hopefully, he really wants that bachelors in business and holds a grudge against SC for how they over looked him right in their own backyard.

Having a top 5 with two schools you never visited seems contrived. It's a top three - period. Wish we had a shot to really show him what we're about, but it happens.

F.

Call him today and tell him, we are going to keep recruiting you because you get it, you just chose the other school for now. But it's a long way to NSD and after we roll this year, you're gonna want to claim your spot on this roster.

Keep the phone lines open. He's an RKG. He didn't want to go to SC.
