Loy said he thinks this puts us in the driver's seat.
Is announcing his decision on May 14th. If he holds to that day, I think its going to be Sparty.
EAST LANSING — Kenney Lyke, one of Michigan State's top recruiting targets in the 2016 class, is getting down to the nitty gritty on his decision and said he plans to make an announcement May 14.
Lyke, a 6-foot-2, 182-pounder out of Fremd High School in Palatine, Illinois, plays receiver and defensive back. But he said the Spartans are recruiting him primarily as a safety.
Lyke is the No. 12-ranked player in the 2016 class in Illinois, according to the 247sports composite, and the No. 35 safety in the nation.
"I'd mainly play strong safety because coach (Harlon) Barnett was telling me he likes the way I come down and play physical,'' Lyke said on "The Griff and Grinz" show on Lansing's The Team, 92.1 FM.
Lyke, whose height and weight are similar to departing Michigan State team MVP Tony Lippett, also has two-way ability.
But for him, it starts with defense. Lyke said he's impressed with how the Spartans have developed players.
Lyke had 64 tackles and an interception through 10 games last season, according to MaxPreps.com.
"Definitely, if you have a school that's producing NFL talent, years back-to-back with Darqueze Dennard and Trae Waynes, the coaches are doing something right,'' Lyke said.
Lyke competed at the Elite 11 camp in Chicago on Sunday, and he ran across Michigan State 2016 quarterback commit Messiah deWeaver.
Lyke -- who also has scholarship offers from Baylor, Notre Dame, Illinois, Iowa and Maryland, among several others -- laughed and confirmed that deWeaver does indeed recruit for the Spartans.
But he's not the only one, Lyke added.
"You've got Messiah, Abdul Adams and Justin Layne, and they are all great guys trying to get more great guys on board,'' Lyke said. "Messiah is a good player, so he doesn't have to say much. Kids just watch his film and say he's a pretty good player, he's committed to Michigan State, maybe I need to come to there, too.''
Lyke said he spoke to deWeaver this past weekend about possibly committing to the Spartans.
"We were talking about me at Michigan State, and what the future could hold for our class in general,'' said Lyke, whose video highlights can be seen here. "If we get me on board, along with Auston Roberston and Josh King, we'd start making some noise and be one of the top 10 classes in 2016."
Robertson, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive end/tight end, is the No. 1-ranked player in the state of Indiana. He has offers from Michigan State, Alabama, Notre Dame and Ohio State.
King, a 6-6, 250 defensive end from Darien, Illinois, is the No. 1-ranked player in the state of Illinois.
Coach D followed up on this and that a source close to Lyke said that he has no intentions of announcing on this date.
From reading some different MSU message boards I get the sense that the MSU staff is really trying to push for commits right now. Trying to get some momentum and stop these kids from taking future visits.

MSU definitely has momentum right now. Are they expected to be the choice here as well?
Unless he gets back to campus I have to believe so. I just don't see phone conversations or bumps doing the trick at this time.
Wiltfong is sticking with his CB prediction to MSU for now but something of interest. Lyke is announcing on his mothers Bday and she loves ND.
I might have to re-think this one. If MSU was the choice, why not just announce today like he had previously thought of?
Where does rank on your board? I think another S commits before Lyke announces.

Baylor: "My defensive coordinator is plugged in with Baylor, he's good friends with the DC down there. Baylor lost to Michigan State in the bowl game, but finished like top six. They have the top recruiting class in the Big 12, and the coaches down there are nice. They've got a new stadium, a lot of guys buying into the program and they're on the rise."
Michigan State: "They were the first top five powerhouse school to show interest in me. They offered me like three weeks after I was in contact with them, they just believed in me. And they have the whole recruiting thing going on against the biggest schools, the guys they're getting in right now - Messiah deWeaver, Abdul Adams, those guys - they're starting to make a run at the No. 1 class in 2016. They're doing a lot of good things over there, Coach [Harlon] Barnett has sent a lot of DB's to the NFL."
Notre Dame: "They didn't offer me as soon as I went down there, so that's why they didn't make my first top five. But Coach [Mike] Denbrock, Coach [Brian] VanGorder, Coach [Todd] Lyght and Coach [Brian] Kelly, they were cool with me and they kept their word. They told me they were going to offer me eventually, and they did, so that's just a trust factor. They've got a good program, and they don't have a lot of safeties so it'd be a play right away situation for me, so that's not a bad idea. Julian Love is there, Miles Boykin is there and those are guys that I know already. We have a group chat going on for the kids that used to play in Core 6, they're both recruiting me to go there but more Miles than Julian. Miles was telling me the reasons why he chose Notre Dame and why I should choose there, just his opinion."
Oregon: "My friend Jared Mayden was on Core 6, he put me on with Coach Neal. It's a lot of kid's dreams to play at a school like Oregon, a lot of great talents there, and having someone I know looking at them too helps." - See more at: https://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1766542#sthash.GXtasTaL.dpuf

FWIW, Beth Long at Scout has said this extra time before his decision has been to NDs favor. So Friday afternoon may be interesting.
Losing this guy to MSU would be a kick to the gut. He calls them a powerhouse and us just a good program![]()
A CB came in for us today from a Bleacher Report recruiting analyst named Tyler Donohue. Donohue also put in a CB for Josh King to MSU today. Any chance this guy knows something we don't?
I know everyone is gonna be bummed about this but besides the recruiting victory the commitment would have provided over a streaking MSU, he's so far down my list at S that personally, I'm glad.
