Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola three-star athlete Carlos Becker has gone from a relative unknown on the recruiting scene, to one of Central Florida's most coveted prospects in the span of just two months.

Becker entered the month of January without a single scholarship offer, but after a bid came in from Duke, the flood gates began to open. Florida State, Florida, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Tennessee, and Louisville all offered Becker scholarships, and now it's Notre Dame who might be next to enter the mix.

Becker told Blue & Gold Illustrated earlier this week, that new Notre Dame defensive backs coach Todd Lyght had made recent contact with him.

"Coach Lyght just started talking to me on Twitter and following me, so I'm not sure what that all means, but we'll see," Becker said.

Becker, who projects as a cornerback in college, has plenty of length at 6-foot-3,180-pounds &dmash; and that's one of the reasons why Lyght is interested. The first-year coach is looking for prospects that can play multiple positions in the secondary, and are strong against the run. Becker fits the billing for both.

Becker said that he didn't have any leaders at the moment, but was interested in any school that offered including Notre Dame.

"Florida State, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, Ole Miss, Kentucky and Tennessee are the ones sticking out," Becker said.

The three-year starter had 56 tackles and three interceptions this past season for an Osceola team that made a surprising run to the Class 7A state finals. The junior campaign was good enough to earn him the No. 9 ranking in the Orlando Sentinel's 2016 Central Florida Super60.

I would love to get a corner with that kind of frame. Our tallest right now is Butler at just over 6ft.

With the Irish expected to take anywhere from five to six defensive backs this cycle, Becker was recently offered by the staff as a cornerback and evaluated last week by secondary coach Todd Lyght in person.

Driskell's Take...
"There are a lot of things to like about Becker. The first thing that stands out about Becker is his incredible length. Whether he is playing cornerback or safety, his length is going to be an asset. He stands 6-3 with exceptionally long arms. His length makes him an extremely difficult defender to throw around. Becker uses his long arms to keep defenders off his body in the run game. He will need a lot of strength to transition to the college game as a tackler, but the tools are there. Becker is a willing tackler and is able to deliver strong blows as a high school player. As he physically matures and his body fills out, Becker should become a more physically dominant football player.

"Becker is a solid all-around athlete. He lacks any elite skills but possesses the kind of well-rounded athleticism that should allow him to play at a high level in college. Becker is a smooth athlete with good agility, quick feet and the ability to plan and drive downhill with good speed. His length and instincts allow him to make up for a lack of ideal speed. Becker is okay in transitions, but the slight tightness he has in the hip area might keep him from being able to play man coverage on the edge.

"His length and range would allow him to better maximize his athleticism as a safety at the collegiate level. He could play on the edge as a zone cornerback, but in a defense like Notre Dame, he could be solid at cornerback but Becker could excel as a safety.

"Another trait that should allow him to excel as a defensive back is his top-level ball skills. Not only does Becker make a lot of plays on the football with his length, he also shows himself to be an instinctive and intelligent football player. In the limited film available he shows himself to be a good decision maker. Becker also shows the ability to make quick reads on the quarterback. Becker should be able to develop into a strong man defender as a safety, something I do not believe he will thrive at as a cornerback."

"He would be a very good pickup for Notre Dame, providing the Irish secondary with much needed length, intelligence, depth and versatility." - See more at: https://notredame.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1769537#sthash.XEUx3CJ2.dpuf

Scout: Becker recaps Invasion

One of the standouts at Notre Dame Stadium on Friday night was defensive back Carlos Becker, who had the Irish in his top 10 even before visiting.

Notre Dame offered 6-foot-2, 181-pound defensive back Carlos Becker during the spring evaluation period. That was enough to get the Kissimmee (Fla.) Osceola product to campus for the Irish Invasion.

“It was alright, I liked everything and how they had it all set up,” Becker said. “It was pretty cool to work with the coaches. Coach (Todd) Lyght was a good coach. I talked with coach (Brian) Kelly, and he told me how he really likes my length and stuff like that.”

Even among a deep group of defensive backs Becker was one of the most impressive to perform. He played physical close to the line scrimmage and showed solid anticipation in man coverage.

Becker received a campus tour of Friday before the Invasion. On Saturday he attempted to connect with Lyght before exiting campus at noon.

“Everything looked the same on campus, like all the buildings were the same,” Becker said. “I went to the Gug today to see coach Lyght, but I guess he was busy or something because we didn’t get a chance to talk.”

Becker released a top 10 of Arkansas, Florida, Kentucky, Michigan State, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, North Carolina State, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and Wisconsin last week. The next step in his recruitment is deciding which programs will get official visits.

“Education-wise, (Notre Dame) is really good, and they’re a good football program and I like coaches,” Becker said. “So, I’m thinking about (returning).”

Becker listed Florida, Kentucky and N.C. State as the schools recruiting him the hardest.

Becker is a three-star prospect and is ranked as the No. 41 safety in the Class of 2016.

I agree it sounds like he wanted more time with Coach Lyght, hopefully that can be fixed/explained. I will say the interviews I've seen with Becker are a little painful as he comes off very subdued and does not say a lot but is blunt. Therefore, it may be a small thing that can easily be corrected.

This is confusing? ND went another direction, ie - stopped showing interest? but they believe he's going to be a special player? And now big name teams are chasing him? So we are starting to chase him as well?

Am I close to reading that right?

Loy thinks Becker is going to be special, not necessarily ND.

Either he wasn't a good fit or, like everyone else, we under-valued him.
