I just don't know how much of a shot we would have here. Seems USC vs. Florida State.

Brandon Burton Close To Narrowing Things Down

It was big knowing that a school in Indiana wants a Cali boy to come all the way over there to help out their football team and be a part of their university. That just meant a lot that they came out here to talk with me and let me know I’m important to them. I know Coach LaFleur is gone, but he recruited me hard. He knows I was looking for academics and I put that to the forefront, so he has me very interested in Notre Dame.

Burton Ready To Reconnect With Irish

It’s a good program. They do good in football. I really don’t know that much because I’m not over there in Indiana.

They don't get NBC in Gardena, CA.

Burton is close friends with Malik Henry, and he will be visiting FSU for their Spring game. Unlike most schools, ND's offer was on the offensive side of the ball (presumably WR?). I find that somewhat puzzling, but whatever. UCLA is coming at him the hardest, along with FSU, USC, and Stanford. Wants Bama and LSU. I agree with IM8 that he goes with Henry to FSU.

Have to love Loy's work ethic as he's on vacation back home but still working. However, some of this most likely has nothing to do with ND. We'll see I guess but a majority of these kids that he's interviewing are not coming to ND.

Kids from Junipero-Serra, practically have zero chance on this one. JS is to USC what Bishop Gorman is to ND.

They have to work Ca hard this year for safeties. There are too many for SC and UCLA to take, especially after SC's last few DB hauls. Great year to steal one.

They missed out on Humphrey's from Mater Dei last year and let him go to Duke. There are some quality kids in next years class that would be great additions to the Irish.

Agreed. Quite a few in CA and Washington state (Lyght is a huge asset up there). The top of the list seem to be from Texas. Very bad time to lose your best Texas recruiter, but we'll see what (most likely Denbrock) can do down there.

Let's see what Mike Sanford can do in Cali.

I actually think we could do well in Cali I was just speaking specifically about the kids that Loy chose to search out on this trip and specifically the Serra kids. My point is that there are other prospects Frank Martin and Curtis Robinson at Mater Dei that we have a much better shot with but he wanted to hit Serra while in Cali. Probably because of location to where he was staying.

I'm really interested to see the Cali recruiting scene this year.

SC cooled on him, if you believe the Trojan homers. (Not saying it's a falsehood.)

to be honest, he hasn't been one mentioned on sc sites as someone they are targeting...they are looking for 4 wr's and have others higher plus as an athlete they have jones higher who is likely to pick them

Bama's offering elephant suppositories. Bold move, Saban. Not sure how anyone will beat Florida State's shish-kabobs, though.

There is going to be so much talent left over in Cali this year. I like the recent DB haul from back east but I'd like to leave a note for the future 11+ win 2015 Irish, leave some room for dessert.

BEAVERTON, Ore. - Over the next few months Brandon Burton, a four-star defensive back from Gardena, Calif., will wind down the recruiting process with official visits. He plans to take all five of those trips before a decision near the end of his season.
Those game day trips will be important coupled with some other factors.
“Education, early playing time and a place I want to live at,” Burton said. “Outside the football season, you’ve got to be around these people in the community and in your locker room. You have to feel right being around those types of people.”
Burton is working with a short list of Alabama, Arizona, Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and UCLA.
Official visits are shaping up to Ohio State (Sept. 12), Oklahoma (Oct. 3), Florida State (Oct. 10), Notre Dame (Oct. 17) and Alabama (Nov. 7). Burton plans to visit Arizona next week and will likely take an unofficial to UCLA.
Notre Dame has been pushing with Burton for awhile, including last month during a camp in the area. Brian Kelly, Mike Denbrock and Brian VanGorder all watched Burton at Sound Mind, Sound Body camp outside Detroit.
They’re so persistent,” Burton said. “They’ve been coming after me. I have a good relationship with coach Denbrock and coach VanGorder and I’m starting to get a real good relationship with coach Kelly.”
Kelly has talked with Burton about what he can expect at Notre Dame in terms of opportunities.
“I could come in and play early in my career,” Burton said. “I could come through and play both sides of the ball and play the best I can.”

Burton plans to stick with the plan of taking all five official visits before coming to a decision.
He’s spent most of this summer around the camp circuit between attending one of The Opening Regionals, the Sound Mind, Sound Body Camp and then The Opening Finals. Getting in some work at different stops along the way should be a positive during the coming season, Burton believes.
“It benefits you because you see what it takes to become the best,” Burton said. “You bring it back to your school to make the people around you the best. Being on these camp circuits really showed me the people and how they work and how you’re really supposed to become better. I wanna bring that back and translate it to the guys at my school to make my team better.”

Too bad this isn't last year. ND is in good position with a lot of Cali guys on the relationship side but not on a time table or availability aspect. If this class was last year, ND could have cleaned up.

Unless there is a silent involved, any guy who is planning on coming late will miss the party. This isn't last year where the combination of poor results and plentiful spots had the Irish recruiting kids up until NSD. This year's smaller scholarship availability and a Top Ten team will lead to those spots being filled early.

The only surprises we'll get this year will be the "silent All Star plants" that are committing during the game or a last minute NSD Whale because someone fell out of this class, a transfer at the semester, or an unfortunate career ending injury during the year (knock on wood).
