There is a zero percent chance of this happening short of:
1. Golson running afoul of something or otherwise being incapable of returning to ND for a 5th year.
2. Zaire beating him out in spring ball.

Both seems like incredibly long shots.

I tend to agree with you, I just haven't seen the game and a few reactions have made it seem like the communication between player and coach was horrible. I am confident no one on IE has overreacted to the way BK and EG communicated.

If Golson thought he had an easy QB competition in 2012 with Kiel, Rees, and Hendrix big boy better think again with next years competition of Zaire, Kizer, and Wimbush.

I had a field pass for the Louisville game and had the chance to see each QB warm up, out of the 3 we have there now on scholarship Kizer was the best out of the 3 leading his receivers when passing.

I've seen enough of Golson at Notre Dame, I don't think he has what it takes to be a ND QB. I've seen enough of Kelly baby Golson. With that being said I wouldn't be upset at all if the Golson era came to an end after this year. He's done many good things and many bad things at his time at ND.

Time to move on and let Zaire take the reigns over.

What evidence is there that they're at odds? We've seen BK bench players in his "doghouse" before, so why wouldn't that apply to the quarterback?

AS I stated, I haven't watched the game yet(plan on doing so tonight - Ugh!), but a few people have made statements of how EG seemed to be ignoring BK on the sideline.

He always does that. The only thing I noticed out of the ordinary was BK yelling "don't walk away from me!"

OK - Thanks. I saw a few posts that made it seem much worse than the typical behavior between the two.

I hate to say it...but I agree....

I'm such a fan of EG and his story and positive attitude, but I think he is maxed on his potential and his impact in games swings waaaayyyyy too much to the negative.... MZ's turn needs to come, better now to get some live action, meaningful reps.... If BK wants to stick with EG, that's ok, and i'll support it as an ND fan....but if I'm MZ, I'm thinking Sumlin at A&M would appreciate a mobile, big, tough QB....So would Miles at LSU.....

If nothing more than to light a fire under him for next year and to send a message there is an open competition, I think MZ should get some playing time against USC.

Golson threw at least two TD passes for the 11th game in a row and the 14th time in his career.

Golson now has 41 career TD passes, tying Rick Mirer for fifth in ND history. Golson's done it in less than 2 seasons while Mirer played 4. Mirer had 23 INTs on 698 passes 3.30 INT%. Golson has 19 on 716, 2.65 INT%

Golson remained 3rd in the nation for Mosts Points Responsible with 224..

Let's not go there. Different era when the pass wasn't 80% of a teams offense.

I have major concerns about him seeing over the field. All of a sudden, he is not tall enough.

Ben Koyack last night, a good option. He doesn't see him unless he is on the seem...

I think teams have figured it out, rush, keep your lanes and get your hands up. Those three little instructions keep Golson under pressure, keep him from hurting you with his feet and make it tough to throw. Koyack has disappeared from the offense.

never seen such defeat in a QB's eyes.

even the prayer he threw that fuller saved his ass, looked like to me that he just said i don't give a shit i'm throwing this.

Give MZ some playing time. See if it motivates him. I wonder what George Whitfield is thinking right now?

If that's the case, then I will lose respect for BK as a coach. We all knew last spring and summer was lip service when it came to the QB comp, but it shouldn't be next year.

Are you making a wish or a prediction? I'd be SHOCKED if Malik starts a game while Golson is a student at Notre Dame.

I get the impression that Golson does this a number of times when he comes off the field. He often seems to walk right past Kelly when Kelly is talking (or yelling) to him. Seems disrespectful and shows a lack of maturity as a player. The fact that he doesn't learn from his lessons makes this point that much worse. I've heard as far back as 2012 that the two have a rocky partnership at times. I wouldn't mind seeing Zaire get some snaps this week, tbh.

I'm worried that, while we will have a lot of returning guys in 2016, inexperience at QB could sink us. What good will it matter if Robinson, Fuller, Folston, Bryant, Hunter, Brent, and Adams are all there if the QB isn't ready? A 2 QB system could help us right now AND help us build for the future.

Kelly needs to take a page from Holtz's book of coaching, grab him by the facemask, and coach the kid.

My wife actually commented on this, as well. She called him a "chatty Kathy" every time he'd come off and Kelly wanted to speak with him. She said, "He always has something to say to the coach."

My wife is by no means a football fan, but i think she is right on with that one.

She also broke the news to me that Brindza missed the FG by not making eye contact with me. I ran outside to grab something from the car thinking that there is no way that Kyle would miss this one.

Ignorant me.

I always felt like Golson reminds me of Radon Randell. I have no idea why, I just think Golson has an ego and plays cocky.

That's odd. I see it the exact opposite. He plays to tight. Needs to relax. Let his skill take over. Stop thinking and play. But he looks like an abused dog or spouse when he makes a mistake or can't convert a 3rd down.

Posted this is another thread, but I think the coaches asked too much of Golson this year considering he hadn't played in two seasons and had only played in 12 games entering this season.

Defenses are still able to do things to confuse him as he's only a 2nd-year starter. I think the offense was just too dependent on him this year, and I think he takes another massive step forward next year. Jimmy turned the ball over like crazy his 2nd year starting also.

Huh? He only missed one season.

I read somewhere this AM that he has like 18 int's in his first 2 seasons. Less than Clausen and Quinn who were in the mid 20s. While throwing more passes.

It's funny how raggin on Golson is A-ok, but calling out Tommy last year was uncalled for. Tommy had plenty of mental mistakes and wasn't asked to do half of what Golson's asked to do. Golson's really been frustrating and I was all for giving Malik the ball last game, but still.

A few things, I think.

1. A lot of people just "accepted" 8-5 at the beginning of last season as soon as Golson was suspended.

2. There wasn't a chorus of pro-Tommy people talking about how glorious he is. I said before that I'm not anti-Golson per-se, but I'm anti-pro-Golson.

3. Tommy had no viable replacement whatsoever.

Who would you want at the helm this year, a last year's Tommy or a this year's Golson? Golson is a starter because he earned the job, Tommy was the starter because we had nobody else. We aren't option less behind Golson this year, we were behind Rees last year. The expectations were low because so is the ceiling for Rees. This year they were high because we all thought the floor and ceiling for Golson was too.

This

If we weren't lead to believe that the competition in the fall was so close, there certainly wouldn't be near as many people calling for Zaire.
