I loved it when national radio and TV shows would spend entire segments discussing the topic of "Is Notre Dame Still Relevant??"

Even for those dense enough to not see it then, we clearly have our answer.

Someone once said, if the Yankees go 62-100 for 5 years in a row guess what? They're still the Yankees and you're not.

ND will always be not only relevant but they'll always be America's team.

Cowboys are no longer America's team. The Broncos are per ESPN Polls..!! Go Peyton. :)

We are not America's team. We are Our Lady's team, though we will always be relevant. There is a reason we are always on primetime.

What is odd is that historically to get that high of a TV rating, the game is usually a No.1 vs No. 2 ranked teams... or at least a No.1 team involved. I believe many saw Florida State as still being ranked number 1 going into the game, since no one had beaten them yet. Then when you add in the high ranked/unbeaten Irish... it's the formula for high ratings.

Agreed whole heartedly.

We Are The Irish, come what may.

There is only one University for outstanding student-athletes who hunger to to be National Champions. The Fighting Irish are back and they are not going away.

A lot of people tuned in to see the classic struggle between the forces of good and evil.

Evil won this round with a little help from their friends much to the glee of many.

I must say, the haters have been quiet throughout this season (so far). Usually they're in full force. But after that thrashing of Michigan, even close victories over Purdue, etc haven't been enough to warrant any criticism. I think the FSU game was a game everyone tuned into to see if the IRISH were for real. The haters were licking their chops, waiting for a blowout by the hands of the Noles. But it never came. And what instead happened was a nation of sports fans witnessing that ND is a legit team. The haters stayed quiet (for another week, even after a loss). The doubters voiced their respect for ND. And the IRISH, once again, prove their relevance.

My guess is the ratings for big time ND matchups are so high because just as many people love to watch ND lose. ND will always be relevant, because the biggest haters in the country help keep it that way.
