Earlier in the Post Game thread FBolt commented that he could see ND falling as far as 12th.
Earlier on Saturday before the games were played. I was looking at the polls and saw a loss could drop us down as far as 15th or so.
Then the games started and one loss teams started to fall. Then BU went down. Then OU. Then Bammer looked like 2012 and treated A&M like a buy game.
It wasn't until after the game that loss sank in. I believed we would win and I had confidence on the last drive. No anxiety, no nail biting. And we did win until the pick got flagged.
Then I reconciled myself that ND's worst lost was to the #1 or #2 team by a ref taking the winning points off the board. I don't expect the incestuous coaches poll to reflect that or that putz in Michigan who finally put us in the poll last week but I do expect the Playoff Committee will reflect on that game. ND dominated all the stats, Total O, Time of Possession, etc on the road. All the stats but one, the one that matters after the gun, the score.
Then I watched ND's best win, Stanford, go down to ASU worse than ND beat them. On the surface not the best result for Sunday's polls BUT it will raise a future opponent in the polls and perhaps permit ND to springboard of a win over a one loss team down the road. USC won big over a hapless team but to pollsters an impressive USC win. Good for ND's future schedule.
ND needs help as could drop to the teens in the polls although I feel we are better than any one loss team in the polls. I keep us behind FSU and the state of Mississippi. But recognizing the SEC love, I see us dropping behind AU and UA. I also see pollsters rationalizing ORE and MSU ranked over ND and throw in UGA dropping ND to 8th or even 9th. The price of independence (or semi-independence) and not losing earlier in the season.
Unfortunately if we don't make the Playoff 4, I can see ND playing in a late December bowl even with an 11-1 record because of existing contractual tie-ins.
Rest up, then BEAT NAVY!
One game at a time while the others cooperate and beat each other up.
