I think Jones/Tennessee will be alright. He just needs to find some kind of breakthrough with the QB position. Jalen Hurd is going to be an animal for the next 3/4 years, and there is plenty of talent at WR, and their defense isn't half bad.

I saw in the Georgia game that their QB situation isn't great (starter had chances to widen the gap on Georgia, can't, then gets hurt, backup is garbage). If they have a QB that can simply distribute the ball and make one less catastrophic mistake, Tennessee is probably 2-0 in SEC play right now. They're close, but yet far.

Jones was good with Collaros at UC. Once he finds a QB that "gets it," Tennessee will be fine. I think he's safe for now.

If I recall correctly, Jones is recruiting better than Dooley ever did...

Dooley recruited alright at the beginning too. And the state of Tennessee doesn't put out guys like Hurd and Malone (at least in Middle and Eastern TN, which are much more fertile ut recruiting ground) every year.

If the vols go 5-7, 6-6 again, will some of the verbals in '15 cycle look elsewhere? Maybe. Probably so. Tennessee HAS to recruit Georgia, Virginia, the Carolinas, etc. well to be consistently good. Maybe Jones will be able to do that. But after a year and a half, the results and product of Dooley and Jones is pretty similar, except Jones was able to capitalize on an atypical recruiting cycle in-state.

So far, I'd say the verdict is still very much out on Jones.

Fair enough. I do agree that if Jones continues to put up 5-7 wins then the seat will get warm.

But his recruiting is great... he's got a top 5 class this year and it's not just TN kids. Top recruits from GA, CA, NC, and KS. So I think kids are beginning to like the Vols on a national scale.

Beyond that, the team under Jones just looks better and more competitive than the Dooley teams. They just seem to play harder and faster. The only caveat to that point is that the SEC East seems to be weaker than when Dooley first started.

I would give Hazell, at least, one more year. Purdue was a dumpster fire when he got there. I don't even think Saban would be doing much better right now if he was at Purdue

Hazell may might get a year or two but 1-11, zero wins against FBS teams gets your seat hot. If he goes 6-6 for this year that's a visible sign of improvement. Where do you see those wins coming from?

As for Saban in 18 years his only losing season was at Bama his first year. He was 2-6 after the NCAA vacated 4 wins as part of the penalty for the book scandal which was ongoing when he arrived on campus. Even then his two wins were Tennessee and Colorado not an FCS school.

Completely disagree on Jones.

There's a lot of hope in Nashville based on the way his team is competing in games and how he's recruiting. He almost beat Georgia with basically all freshman.

He does have a lot of underclassmen playing which could bode well for his in the next to years but it makes it harder to recruit when you're two deep is loaded with talented people.

Here's UTN Recruiting Classes for the past 5 years. It appears they've been pretty consistent recruiting. They've taken 150 recruits over the past 6 years averaging 25/class. Their averaged Star ranking is 3.44 with only the class of 14 at 3.65 and 13 at 3.19 differing much but whent wo classes are averaged together they have an average of 3.42 So their recruiting really hasn't varied much contrary to popular conception. The average stars is more important than the Class Rank which is more related to the size of the class. Classes of 25 or 31 tend to ranked higher. These numbers are based upon LOI's not the number that actually enrolled or are still enrolled in school.

HTML:
Class	Total	5s	Avg	Rank
15	25	1	3.48	5
14	31	2	3.65	5
13	21	0	3.19	21
12	21	0	3.38	17
11	27	0	3.41	13
10	25	1	3.44	9

Websites call for Florida Gators to hire Dan Mullen as new coach - ESPN

Florida fans push for Dan Mullen

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- From the irate fan base that brought you FireRonZook.com comes the latest plea from Florida Gators supporters: HireDanMullen.com.

Let's go Gator fans...we need to show our support for getting Dan Mullen back to Gainesville! That site and another, WeWantDan.com, have popped up recently as Florida has struggled to a 3-2 record (2-2 in the SEC).

The owner of WeWantDan.com identifies himself only as Ray. He says he doesn't want too much publicity. He lives in Florida and has been a passionate supporter of the Gators for 25 years.

He launched the site Sunday morning and claims 15,000 visitors in its first 24 hours.

To Ray, the path is clear: Florida must fire coach Will Muschamp and hire Mullen, the coach of No. 1 Mississippi State.

"He's got a relationship with Florida. He won two national championships while he was at Florida (as offensive coordinator)," Ray said of Mullen on Tuesday. "He's an SEC head coach. He has the experience. He knows the conference. ...

"He's obviously successful at Mississippi State. I mean, he's had one losing season. They're the No. 1 team in the country coming from nothing. They were even unranked coming into the season."

The case against Muschamp began to gather steam a year ago during a disastrous 4-8 season that included historic home losses to FCS Georgia Southern and Vanderbilt.

Muschamp has gone 25-18 (15-13 in the SEC) in just over three seasons.

Muschamp needs a bowl for some sign of visible progress. Last year's 4-8 team wasn't ineligible. First UF team not to go bowling since the 1990 season. They haven't missed consecutive bowl games since '84-'86, the Charley Pell/Galen Hall NCAA era.

But at 3-3 and only 5 games remaining, UF needs 3 wins out of UGA, VU, SCA, EKU, and FSU. Vandy and EKU are lock wins and UGA and FSU lock loses. They get the Cocks in Gainsville and should be a favorite.

Adding insult to injury they had a buy win in the season opener that got called due to weather and they had to pay Idaho almost a $1 million but didn't get the buy win. I suspect he's a DMW but a second losing season and second bowl ineligible year requires no discussion.

Beckman's seat didn't get any hotter, Illinois had a bye.

At 3-4 he looks better than the 2-10, 3-8, past two years but his schedule has MIN, OSU, IA, PSU, and NW. I see 0-5 1-4 if they pull out the last game of the year.

Bielema got beat up again. I got chided last time for including him as I was told he's teaching the Hogs how to win. At 6-14 over the past two season that works out to $1 million/win.

Fortunately he has UAB to beat up on get win #4 before Miss St, LSU, Ole Miss, and Mizzou. That Nicholls St win does look impressive. He might be a 3 pt fav at Mizzou. Ark last logged 8 wins over two seasons 70 years ago.

Three years ago Petrino had 21 wins over two season. Surely John L. didn't kill an entire program in one season. Bert won his first 3 last year than lost the next 9. So far he wasn't won an SEC game.

He got the worst winning record at ARK in 72 years.

He was a great coach was WIS. Is the SEC just too tough for BIG coaches?

Saban made it.

I sure hope not. The only time I cheer for the Gators is when they play UGA.

My wife is a Gators fan being from Orlando so I root for Gators on the side and keep up with them. It's just amazing how far they have fallen. Those Meyer/Tebow teams were awesome. They were loaded every year.

I think Florida's biggest problem is they have not found anyone to replace Tebow. They haven't had a decent QB since he left. It today's football world you only seem to go as far your QB takes you.

I can't stand UGA either. I cheer against them in every game they play.

There's an unemployed cajun without a job, who continues to turn down assistant coaching opportunities. Florida should include Ed Orgeron's name on any interview list. The three years at Ole Miss were not very impressive, but the interim work at USC warrants another opportunity as a head coach. I think Ed orgeron would recruit Florida and Georgia better than Urban Meyer himself!

I think Orgeron deserves a shot somewhere....maybe he has to look at Kansas or SMU as a stepping stone/proving ground before getting handed the keys to a team in a power conf again....He might also be a good fit after Michigan swings and misses on every coach they have on their wish list.....

I think harbaugh is a real possibility at Michigan. if the rumors of his head butting style are true he may want to go back to college and run the team his way. I woud hate to see it but does anyone else think its a possibility?

I think it's possible....I've heard rumors that he is considered gone after the season (know of a person who has a connection in the 49ers offices...same person told me they were already putting out feelers to other coaches, and yes, BK is/was one...from what I understand there were roughly 2-3 dozen coaches they were quietly putting feelers out on, so I don't think it is/was anything serious...they'd be dumb not to inquire)....Harbaugh has control issues, an ego, and an intense drive to keep working to win....which is always better suited at the college level, since they have to keep recruiting and the best coaches control every aspect of the program...

I think he has a better shot of winding up coaching the Raiders, Bears, or Dolphins (has a great relationship with owner who is a big Michigan booster) than going back to college level....plus, from what I've read, he wants AD Dave Brandon out before he would even consider Michigan....

sooooo....to answer the question...there's a chance...but I think it's Michigan or bust at a salary that gets close to $8.5mil/yr and them firing Brandon....but the Raiders, Bears, and Dolphins would be teams he would prolly consider first....

The SI article has Golden on the way out at Miami. They've got problems but I don't see his as part of them.

Miami Fans Donate Nearly $1,600 To Fly A “Fire Al Golden” Banner Over UM Game At Virginia Tech | College Spun – Social. Local. Consumable. College Sports.

Dan Lyons 10/20/14

Miami fans are done with head coach Al Golden, and they are prepared to open their wallets to prove it. On October 16, one fan launched a GoFundMe campaign to raise $1,580 in order to have a “Fire Al Golden” banner flown over Lane Stadium before Miami’s game at Virginia Tech.

These donations will be used to fly a banner prior to the UM at Virginia Tech game in Blacksburg, on Thursday, October 23, 2014. Let’s let Al Golden know that he can’t hide from us at road games either. Our talented players deserve a coaching staff and administration that will bring The U back. It is year 4 of Al Golden’s coaching tenure and we have regressed to being 4th place in the ACC coastal division. We demand better.

It did take 40 donors to come up with $1600.

Miami fans have always been front runners. They support the team as long as it's undefeated.

Golden's Record
'11 6-6
'12 7-5
'13 9-4 (but lost 4 of last 6)
'14 4-3

He's 6-7 in his last 13 games. He's 0-3 against FSU.

Remaining '14 games @VT, UNC, FSU, @UVA, PIT. They could win 3 or 4 those but could also be beaten by any of them. VT and FSU will be favs. Miami probably won't be a TD fav against any of them.
