Per Rivals,

Liked the atmosphere and fans support a lot, even though the weather. Said the game was crazy. Hung out with the players a lot both Friday and Saturday night.

Going to keep it open and will still take other visits, for sure UCLA and USC. IMO, I was hoping a more positive article.

I hate to say this, but my roommate was from Cerritos,CA (St. John Bosco), and based on my experiences with him, I think the weather yesterday may have profoundly impacted this recruitment.

Apparently Notre Dame can recruit Bosco fairly well as long they don't play football. Also I don't think Bosco was the program they are now back in the mid to late eighties.

If that truly is the case I hope he stays out west...this is a team of warriors, not fruitcakes with killer tans..

Seriously? So your going to make this statement based on the weather affecting somebodies roommate. Because those two things are even remotely comparable. We should save these type of comments for when the actual player says something like this not some random person from California.

Sorry but this is ridiculous. Based on your experiences with your friend who may be nothing like ESB your going to make an assumption that it's adversely impacting our recruitment. Seems like a stretch to me.

1) ESB doesn't go to Bosco
2) who gives a shit what your roommate thinks of the weather?

Max Redfield didn't mind the rain in 2012

It wasn't cold like it was Saturday though. I needed a pancho at the Stanford game in 2012. Saturday I needed a long sleeve T, a warmer long sleeve T, a hoodie, and a heavy winter coat.

Of course, Manti Te'o came to the Syracuse game in the snow, and signed with ND.

Saturday's weather was horrendous. I was cold at the Syracuse game a while back, but the rain this past weekend did me in. IMO, there's nothing worse than cold rain. I'd prefer it just snow at that point. I was drenched from head to toe, even while sitting under a poncho for most of the game. I saw ESB at the players walk, and he looked colder than I did. Hopefully he looks past it.

Obviously this has no bearing on ESB or any of the other recruits opinions of the weather, but I loved it.

There's something about sloppy, cold, poncho-covered fans.... that makes everyone come down to earth. It's kind of an everything-goes atmosphere, and even the fans that might stand and clap for a TD, start high fiving everyone in their section and cheering at the top of their lungs.

Not everyone will appreciate it, but I wouldn't have had it any other way.

So if a guy doesn't enjoy freezing cold and a biting rain, he's a fruitcake with a killer tan???

Amir originally chose USC over ND. Did you call him a fruitcake then?

Manti HATED the cold on his trip and watched the game inside. Was he a softie with a killer tan?

That was not a great weather game for west coast recruits. I didn't like it. But the atmosphere was electric. Hopefully that (along with everything else he knows that ND offers) will sway him in the end. Either way, I'm not going to crucify him for not enjoying shitty weather. I'll still take him in a heartbeat.

I'm pissed that you didn't message me for a tailgate beer. No italics.

I hate that the weather sucked, but it is what it is. Notre Dame is not what a lot of other schools are and that is the appeal. I truly want ESB and Buncom IV on the squad and they are perfect fits for what ND is all about, but they have to really want all of that or it doesn't work out in the end. Here's to hoping they want it.

I'm completely chill. There was no way for me to know that was in jest, nor would any recruit and their families know it was in jest (and yes, they do read these boards).

Buncom had no issue with the weather from what I have heard so far. Obviously, he probably would have enjoyed it being 60 and sunny sitting the stands for 4hrs.

And im not sure what you would like kids to say about the weather on Saturday. People I have talked to said the weather was 10xs worse than the BYU game last year. Im not going to hold it against a kid saying the weather was horrible because it was horrible.

I think the biggest difference from BYU weather to saturday's was that you knew what you were going to get last year at BYU. The forecast all week was in the low 20s to teens, high winds, snow.

This week most of the predictions were mid 40s with slight rain in morning and evening. Then bam its 25 and sleeting.

I saw so many under dressed people because of it.

I didn't mean to imply the cold bothered Buncom. I was more generalizing because he and ESB are from the West Coast. I am glad to hear that he wasn't bothered by it. Between Buncom, ESB, and Wimbush we have three super talented kids that fit perfectly with what ND is all about. Cold weather, academic investigation, whatever, these are the type of kids that will continue to make this a special place. I don't know if we get all three of these kids or not, but I damn sure think that we would be better off if we did! Can I get a buzz buzz lol

I was one of those people.

It also didn't help that the rain forecast by most reports was scattered and everyone I talked to said it was supposed to be PM rain. I saw snow flurries when I first got into town. Then sleet. Then rain. And that rain literally never stopped.

I lived in South Bend for almost twenty years growing up. I should've known better. Always be prepared for the worst when it comes to weather up there. Always.

Dont forget about Soso he seems like a Notre Dame fit as well.

Absolutely! He is definitely on the wish list. I was just kind of wrapped up in this past weekend's visitors. Another kid that I think gets it is Mekhi Brown, though I still think that is a tough flip, but every time I see something from him on here it seems very positive. There are lots of kids out there, and we have been getting them as you can see from our current roster, but Stanford has gotten their fair share as well and we need to get back to winning that battle more often than not. Beating them on Saturday was a great start towards doing that IMO!

Interesting statement from Loy during the post stanford recruiting wrap video he did with Lou S at BGI. He said that some schools have cooled on ESB and are focusing their attention elsewhere. Doesn't come as a shock as we talked about this a little last week but here's some more confirmation that may in fact be happening. Their loss will hopefully be our gain.

It was never 25 and sleeting. Not during the game. It was exactly like the weather report had it all week, low to mid 40's with 90% rain and 17mph winds. They were right on the money. lol
