Ranking Every Defeat of the Weis Era

U Conn, Cuse , and the Georgia Tech blow out....those were dark days. We are blessed with BK.

Navy in 2009 was the worst for me. We were 6-2 with only very close losses to Michigan and USC. 10-2 still seemed very likely.

Losing to Navy with Clausen, Tate, and Floyd (I think Rudolph got hurt this game?) on the field was beyond unacceptable. Throw in the crazy turnovers that we had, and it was just a horrid game.

Golden Tate still almost bailed us out with the onside recovery and subsequent TD. I remember going for that 2nd onside kick and honestly thinking Tate was going to recover it and score another TD.

I'm too young to remember Rocket that well. Tate is by far the most electric guy I've seen at ND. You always had a chance with Golden out there.

That's a shame. Every time Rocket touched the ball, the stadium (home or away) fell deathly silent. Because every single person there was holding their breath, waiting to see what Rocket would do. It was simply amazing. Rocket was Devin Hester way before Devin Hester was Devin Hester; and I think Rocket was more dangerous.

I didn't know Rocket existed until a year or so after i became a fan and even if i had i would have been too young to remember much which really sucks! I agree Tate was the closest thing i can imagine that Rocket would have been like it was an awesome feeling knowing he might score at any time. You always just hoped he was the last one scoring because if there was enough time left the other team would score again. Ugh!

Thats how i felt every time we played USC when Reggie Bush was there I always imagined Reggie Bush must have been what it was like for opposing fans to watch Rocket. I almost felt sick every time ND played USC during those years because any time he was on the field i was afraid he would take it to the house.

Tim Brown is my all time favorite ND player, but Rocket was by far the most exciting player I have ever seen in college football. He was electric with the ball and it seemed like he did something you thought you would never see each week. UND was never out of a game if the other team had to punt. It almost got to the point that you expected him to have a great return - and he usually did.

woah... had never really watched much of rocket before (too young) so I pulled up a quick youtube video and DAYUM. Dude had WHEELS. I've always wanted to see a guy in a Notre Dame uniform do that sort of thing...

On a good note...under CW I came to believe that ND could in fact complete a forward pass. Under Davie and Ty I was always completely shocked whenever we completed a damn pass. So there's that.

That's a good point I hadn't thought of. The defense and ground games were just really bad for most of the Weis years.

UConn was the worst for me as well. Which is interesting, considering ND was already 6-4 and UConn actually wasn't that bad of a team. But that was the only game other than the National Championship that made me want to throw my remote through the TV screen.

I'm not saying I disagree with the main points of this article, but I wonder where we might rank some of the losses from the back half of 2014 (which occured after the article was written) against this list.

My point is, Kelly has some pretty bad losses too...

2014 Northwestern would be pretty high up there for me.

Jesus that NW loss is right up there for all time worse losses for me as a fan. I was just gutted after we lost to them and seeing Pat Fitzgerald's smug face all game long made it worse. I'm so glad we're having an great year and have a shot at the playoffs this year, but losing to a bad Northwestern team at home in your 5th season is completely and utterly inexcusable. That loss still boils my blood sometimes.

What a depressing article. Tate and Floyd were boss though. Name me some others that have flypaper hands like them, pretty short list. Tate turned 50/50 balls into 90/10.

I give a pass on the 2013 Pitt game. That game was at the end of the year, at Pitt and of course prime time. The team was so beat up Carlo had to play DT. Not to mention we got hosed on the targeting call on Tuitt.

USC 2014 is the worst loss for me. Decimated by injuries... Golson throwing in the towel after the first drive.., worst loss ever point wise... the exclamation point at the end of the most disappointing season I can remember.

That was the first game I had been to since 2002. What a crappy one to pick.

I took my son to NW for his first game. It was the first game I had been to since the Tulsa game. I've had terrible look seeing the Irish in person (1-7 all time) and not sure when I'll go back. Less stress watching on TV.

I always wonder how things would be viewed if the Tulsa game came before the Navy game. Somehow that Navy loss, much worse IMO, seems to get lost in the shuffle which absolutely amazes me.

Good short interview with CW (I missed this back in the Summer). In summary:

• He seems to be content and has put all the ND shit behind him (why not, he got paid a fortune!)
• Enjoys his XM Satellite show and watching his son as OC for Ole Miss
• Comes back to SB occasionally and quietly to visit his daughter at the Hannah & Friends residences
• This Golic Family charity event on campus in June was his first time on campus since his firing
• He stays out of the ND limelight and knows his place as an ex-ND coach who was fired
• Lastly, he comments that Freeman is about the program and players whereas when he and Kelly were coaches, it was all about the ND coach

Good stuff.

Obviously, one very good thing to come out of all of it was that Hannah Weis will never need anything for the rest of her life financially.

He’s dropped a ton of weight too. No surgery, no GLP-1 agonist. He did it (& maintains) with intermittent fasting. Good for him.
