Used to be livet now it's fiddich...both are okay as I prefer the peat...

I am seasonal with them. I prefer Livet during the Summer and Glenfiddich during the fall. I prefer peat during the winter (along with sherried whiskies).

Hitting the growler of Dragoon IPA hard as I had a fantasy draft start at 12pm PT. Fantasy Draft, ND getting ready to start and beer, quite the combo.

Blanton still. Might move on to a bottle of Bulleit. It's been a good night.

I take it that frequent bathroom breaks and passing out on the couch drunk are also part of your gameday routine.

First off who needs bathroom breaks when you have rubber sheets !

Lagunitas Maximus IPA.

I almost went with the Stone 18th anniversary IPA but I think I will save that for Thursday.

Well done. Who makes that one?

After vacation in Northern MI (w/many good beers and local wines), Space Cake by Clown Shoes for me.

I had a growler of Dragoon IPA. It is a very nice local West Coast style IPA. Relatively reasonably priced at $15 for a 64oz growler.

Had some last weekend - good stuff although it was a little heavy out on the boat in the sun!

Southern Tier Pumking. Not a fan, I think that I will be giving up on pumpkin ales as I have yet to find one that I enjoy.

I was the same way. Too buttery for me.

Drinking an '89 bottle of Pinch 12 yr scotch. This older bottle is much better than any recent Pinch I've had before so I'm trying to figure out if they changed the location/recipe since '89.

I am not sure if they have changed the location/recipe but many older blends use to have a higher percentage of malt in them. I have had an older JW Red (early 90's) that was much better than the current blend as they use to have a lot more Talisker in it but as single malts became more popular they started using less and less malt (and in many cases younger and younger whisky as well). Another older blend that use to be really good is White Horse which use to have a fair amount of Lagavulin and probably still has a little bit.

I'm gonna have to give away my half full bottle of Talisker 18, simply because I can't bring myself to drain pour a $150 bottle of Scotch. Keep coming back to it hoping that I'll have some sort of epiphany, but I couldn't even finish my most recent dram. Oily, salty ash... blech.

I've been on a big "bourbon with extra finishing" kick recently. Maker's 46 is superb; really emphasizes my favorite bourbon notes--barrel-derived caramels and vanillas. Drinking one neat as I type this.

Had Angel's Envy recently too, which I really liked. I'm a big fan of the Old Fashioned, and the port-barrel-finishing on AE imparts enough fruity sweetness that it's almost like an Old Fashioned in a bottle.

Speaking of bottled mixed drinks, a couple buddies and I ordered a 5L charred white oak barrel. Filled it with the following on Saturday during half-time:

  • 3 handles of Watkins Select Bourbon (on sale at Total Wine for $28 per)
  • Simple syrup made from a reduction of brown sugar and maraschino cherries soaked in Brandy
  • Agnostura and Orange Bitters to taste

Gonna give it a month in the fresh barrel. Should be ready for bottling during the Syracuse game.

Tried Old Chub Nitro last night, and loved it. It's amazing how much smoothness and body nitrogenation adds.

Nice! I currently am soaking my barrel with a rum/brandy mixture. Thinking about making 2 Liters of Manhattans with it.

I've thought about getting Whistlepig Rye but am unsure which Sweet Vermouth I'd want to add with that. If anyone has any suggestions let me know.
