A name to keep an eye on; he was at the Irish Invasion.

St. Edward's Shaun Crawford, Perry's Luke Farrell impress at Notre Dame's Irish Invasion camp - cleveland.com

As for Farrell, the 6-6, 240-pound Notre Dame target received offers from Michigan and Ohio State last week. The junior said he didn't receive an Irish offer while attending camp, but the Irish said they were interested and wanted him to visit this summer.

"They like how I ran my routes and caught the ball," Farrell said. "They thought I was pretty coachable."

As for what the junior needs to work on? "My blocking."

"Farrell ... stood out physically on a field littered with stars," James wrote. "He excelled in high-point passes and looked comfortable in the end zone."

The Class of 2016 is a big one in Ohio for tight ends, and with the Buckeyes grabbing a commitment from three-star Kierre Hawkins over the weekend, that still leaves four-stars Luke Farrell and Jake Hausmann on the market. Both also have an Ohio State offer and with the Buckeyes likely not taking three tight ends, who will jump on their offer first? Farrell has been open about his strong feelings towards Ohio State, while both of Hausmann's parents are Ohio State graduates. It should be an interesting situation. Hawkins is athletic enough to play outside or from the H-back position, but it's still unlikely that Farrell and Hausmann will both be in the plans for the Buckeyes. But here's an interesting idea, take all three. If anyone can make that work it's Urban Meyer, who could find ways to run the spread with speed and mix it up with a jumbo set a la the New England Patriots of a few years ago where the tight end became the biggest weapon on the team.

Nauta chose the Seminoles and now Hausmann has tied himself to the Buckeyes. I hope the staff offers Farrell, Kaden Smith, and Upshur soon, and barring them consider skipping taking a TE in 2016.

Current Ranking:

247: :s::s::s::s: 90 Rating, #14 OH, #8 TE, #240 Overall
Rivals: :s::s::s::s: 5.8 Rating, #6 OH, #7 TE, #164 Overall
Scout: :s::s::s::s: #12 TE, #247 Overall
ESPN: :s::s::s: NR
247 Comp: :s::s::s::s: .9171 Rating, #11 OH, #7 TE, #204 Overall

EDIT: Also on 247 he's listed at 240 now! 6'6" 240 as a HS Junior...

I agree with this idea. Assuming the staff wants another TE, that's a lot of talent stacked up. I expect Weishar, Luatua and Jones to all play in the coming years. Smythe has been hyped for a full off-season already.

Lots of talent with lots of years left. Maybe we can skip TE and go after 9 safeties in 2016.

i'm thinking we pursue 30 safeties in the hopes of getting 2.

Personally believe it was long overdue. Should have been on him much earlier

COMPLETELY agree. Kid was a standout at last year's Irish Invasion, gets solid reviews at camps, racks up blue chip offers from places like OSU and Bama, names a final 4 recently, AND THEN we offer. This cycle has me confused big time.

I think they were enamoured with angeline's size and went towards him and seemed to be trending our way but the longer he takes and is taking multiple visits to other places our chances are decreasing...I think they felt Farrell was in the. 2ND tier

Before Angeline, it was Hausmann though. To me, if you don't have multiple irons in the fire at all times, you're playing a risky game.

Question. Is TE a huge need in this class?

Sent via tapatalk

I could be wrong, but I think we're looking to take 1 for sure this cycle. Alize is most likely not a 5-year plan, Luatua played last year and our offense needs a solid TE to really click.

Missing this year could lead to a depth issue in the future unless I'm missing something. Then again, maybe Boykin grows into a TE and it's all moot.

Scout: offer puts ND in his top group. Won't visit for II but hopes to visit this summer.

Farrell is a good prospect, but I think the offer comes at about the right time. Notre Dame is in it with Angeline, but if they are dead set on taking a TE this class, you need to work some other kids too.

Farrell is a kid that will benefit from not having to play early at Notre Dame. He will need to get weight and gain strength to be ready to see the field. Typical, TE recruit basically. TE is a hard position to come in as a freshman and play right away. Notre Dame has just been spoiled with Rudolph, Koyack and Niklas not need to worry about being big enough. I mean if Niklas a TE his freshman year, he would have seen some limited reps.

Farrell just needs to decide if he wants to be part of a 2 TE class at OSU, or part of a loaded depth chart at Notre Dame.
