**Cooking With Baker? … Prime Ohio State Class of 2015 target Jerome Baker of Cleveland Benedictine named a top eight last weekend of the Buckeyes, Florida, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan State, Florida State, and Miami, in no particular order.

Will Baker "come home" in the end?

Word we have is that the Buckeyes are the leader at this point, with Florida and Tennessee right behind them, and Notre Dame potentially being the dark horse in this race.

We got some thoughts on those four programs from Baker immediately following his announcement of his final eight:

Ohio State: "When I think of OSU I think of home. That's what gets me. My family and friends all go there, so it's like home."

Florida: "Florida fits my personality so well. Everything about Florida fits me."

Tennessee: "Tennessee overall is a great place. The people, the fans, the coaches, the facilities. I felt so much love when I was there."

Notre Dame: "They are the complete package. Academics, football, spiritually, Notre Dame has it all. I can't wait to visit there!"

In the end while we think Baker will take some official visits this fall, we anticipate him "coming home" and pledging to the Buckeyes at some point in 2014.

I have the same feeling. I may be notorious for my optimism, but I don't see this kid going anywhere when he speaks THAT highly of Notre Dame. He's said numerous times that ND is unparalleled by any school he has interest in.

We aren't in his Top 3 and he has been a OSU lean for almost a year now.

I'm not buying it. You don't just say those things about ND and not at least have them in your top 3. I doubt he's said anything about Florida or Tennessee in that high of regard. I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up at OSU as they lead. My feeling is that they'll land Hilliard or Baker, but not both, and I think ND will land one of them.

I like all the things he says about ND too, but until he makes a visit there really isn't much to go on. If he does get to campus, and then if he makes an official on top of that, then, and only then, will I get on board. Still, I don't see any harm in keeping an eye on his recruitment.

I disagree that we trail by anything significant towards any "top 3" and agree with NDSean in a lot of respects. He hasn't visited, so it's impossible to gauge his true interest level. It could be very high, it could be mediocre.

I don't doubt that we trail OSU and I'm not sure ND will have what Baker is looking for, but we're in the mix as much as anything other school IMO and we won't know more until after he does make a visit this summer sometime.

I know, but that kid just seems to get ND. I agree though, and I think we are starting to see the early offers roll now with classes 16' and 17'. The recruiting game is speeding up so much now we have to or we will really start to miss out.
