From our friend Jake Brown:

ND feels good about where it stands with Reid. Obviously the biggest threat is PSU. The family also talked a good amount about how similar his HS is to ND. That seemed to be a selling point.

North Philly = South Bend apparently

I went to a school similar to St. Joe's (they were a big rival of us in crew). ND is pretty similar in a lot of ways. Except there are girls at ND (kind of...).

Not sure if there is anything new here, but...

Never really heard much after his visit other than it went well. I know Wilfong specifically spoke to him after his visit, and I was bummed he didn't change his CB from PSU to ND.

I want to know if his uncle had a good time!

He's a pretty level headed kid who's taking it slow. Your not going to see him getting super excited about visits and telling these reporters what they want to hear. He's going to take his OV's so don't expect much movement here in the short run. However, I he had to sign today. I think he signs with ND. Perfect fit here on a couple different levels.

gth-Speed
Above average overall size and length; not ideal measurables but he is scrappy and plays bigger. A bit lean and will need to continue building upper-body strength but displays good functional strength pressing and playing tight coverage. Flashes very good speed and even better recovery ability.
Instincts/Recognition
Shows good instincts and awareness skills defending the flat and downfield throws. Reads the quarterback and anticipates really well breaking on the underneath pass; jumps routes with great timing often undercutting the pass. Down-field ball tracking skills are very polished.
Coverage Skills
Has great foot quickness, recovery and cover corner skill-set. Fluid hips and quick transition to mirror and turn and run without much wasted motion in man-to-man. Closes separation with very good burst out of his breaks. Understands how to play leverage when defending vertical throws; stays between the ball and receiver. Will step up and press and is effective in tight coverage due to his quickness and aggressiveness. Ball skills are really polished. Hands are great as is his coordination to adjust to the throw outside his frame.
Run Support
Willing run supporter. Quick to defeat the stalk block and come up and tackle. Makes firm wrap ups and is reliable in the open field. Shows he can blitz and come off the edge.
Bottom Line
Reid is an ultra-quick, competitive and savvy athlete who could get recruited to play corner or receiver but we like his skill-set more defensively when projecting for the college level. Still needs continued physical development to reach his potential and if he does we see a productive playmaker at the college level.
Junior Eval
STRENGTHS: Displays good length and playing speed at the corner position. Productive coming off the edge versus the run. Demonstrates good ball skills and overall is an instinctive defender. Is fluid and natural coming out of his pedal. Plays at his best in off coverage. ... AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT: Not a consistent run-through tackler. Needs to add some bulk and strength to his frame to match his aggressive style of player. Could polish his press-man skills. ... BOTTOM LINE: Reid is an instinctive playmaker on the perimeter with great run support skills and solid underneath coverage ability. This is a solid player at the CB position with a bright future at the next level.

If anyone knows, I bet his dad does.

lol. I went to HS with a guy named Erik Reid who went on to play RB at Rutgers in 1986ish. Although he doesn't look exactly like Erik, he looks like Erik's dad. Erik's dad was the mayor of Middletown, PA for nearly my entire life. If memory serves, there is at least a guy or two from my old HS who graduated around the same time and might know who I'm talking about. If the elder Reid was 50 years younger, I swear he would look just like this kid. The first time I saw his profile I thought this, and every time it gets bumped it reminds me. So, though someone on IE might know if his dad went to Rutgers.

Interesting. If his dad were on IE, I bet he would know.

He gave a very good interview to Scout. He would like to see LSU and UCLA. He's down to earth, motivated and a quality kid from the sounds. He is unsure if he will take OVs during the season or not, if he gets approval from his teammates and coach then he might but he is a captain and will not leave the team without full blessing. Also his coach will help him a lot after this spring to narrow his list.

So I have a bit of an update from my "source." Apparently the kid is as described: very smart, down to earth, doesn't drink, and is the type of kid you'd like to "see on a date with your daughter."

In terms of his recruitment, he said PSU is coming after him HARD. Franklin called my guy about him literally two days after he was hired. My source views Franklin as a bit of a used car salesman, and said John also isn't sold on the CB coach at PSU (limited defensive experience, mainly a high school background).

He is very interested in playing for a guy like VanGorder with an NFL background and an aggressive defense. He likes to play press cover and sees a fit in BVG's scheme.

Plans to decide after the season. ND is in a "very good position, perhaps the lead."

Just after your comments in the 'Overrated Movies' thread, where I don't think you could get any dumber.

You go and do something like this.

AND TOTALLY REDEEM YOURSELF!

Last week of spring evals and ND is sending in the closer. Cooks visiting Reid this week. Interesting that Jake is saying ND expects a summer decision where John has publicly said he'll be taking all his OV's. Either Jake has some info or smoked something this morning.

I read PSU board just to get Reid updates. It seems to be a Bama, ND, PSU battle. With OV's that will be taken so surprised Jake is hearing this.

Will be announcing a top 5 or 7 next week. Bama, ND, Rutgers, PSU, MIami, VT, Maryland are the teams he's been looking at. Said at this point he's unsure of the next step whether it will be OV's or more summer visits. It would be really nice to get Crawford and Reid by summers end and recruit for a 5th DB/S throughout the season.

From TJ.

Feel pretty good here as of now, but still a way to go as he doesn't plan to commit until late this year.

Some good forces around him working in our favor and his first visit to campus couldn't have been better. We'll see what happens from here.
