wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $45 mil guaranteed. Is he that good to wreck a team over?

He's a true elite DB imo... but aside from that... lol at the bold, how exactly does one wreck the Browns?? In related news I heard the powers that be in Detroit stated yesterday that vacant buildings may be a problem at some point down the road…

I believe this puts him getting more money than Richard Sherman and Earl Thomas. That's just stupid.

Holy crap, it hasn't even been a week. Chicago is normally one of the first to be done, but that's crazy.

LOL..yeah maybe a bit too dramatic on my part, but I assumed there might actually be a low tipping point for an NFL team. Maybe the Browns can keep surprising me? Throwing that much at one player is going to result in significant CAP issues in the near future. However, they have been terrible drafting so its not like they have to worry too much about those lucrative 2nd contracts. Still think that is crazy money for them to be shelling out.

I love Haden,... but don't get me wrong, I totally agree... it's just funny the idea of wrecking the Browns...

I know what you mean....My Bucs have only had a handful of promising years since I began following them (Creamsicle days) and the one SB they won was basically gift-wrapped and handed to them on silver platter by the NFL gods (John Gruden got far too much credit for that one).

Nowhere else to put it, so I put it here. As a Lions fan I'm beyond disgusted.

I loudly jumped on the Browns bandwagon. I have no plans on leaving. I've been a life long Lions fan, and I have no clue why my icon is now missing. Maybe SUH took it and ran. What a bitch

I call for a complete overhaul of the icon system. I would like to support more than one team per league, and my OKC Thunder don't even have an option. But the Super Sonics still do.

I believe the icon system was a purchased package that the first owner bought for the site prior to moving on... I don't believe it's something that can just be updated unfortunately... maybe I'm wrong.

I've always thought more PFs should look at this route. Patrick Young from Florida is a prime example of a guy big enough to play in the League who has athleticism you just don't see on many full-time TEs.

Former Miami hoopster Swoope turning heads with Colts

The Indianapolis Colts signed undrafted tight end Erik Swoope despite the fact he had never played a down of organized football in his life, and his chances of making it on the gridiron seemed slim.

After Swoope's performance in last week's rookie minicamp, though, coach Chuck Pagano believes the Colts have may have something in the former Miami hoopster who has run the 40 in the low 4.6's and has a 35-inch vertical.

"To be able to just break a huddle, get in a stance, run the routes that he ran, catch the balls that he caught, I mean, off the charts, exceeded our expectations way beyond anything that you'd ever imagine for a guy that never played," Pagano said, via the team's official website. "If he continues to work -- he's a bright guy, he's smart, he picks things up, he looks like he's got great passion for this -- who knows?"

The only money the 49ers are obligated to pay Kaepernick is his signing bonus ($12.329 million) and his 2014 base salary ($645,000). The rest of his $48 million in guarantees is tied up in a complicated matrix of injury-only designations and de-escalator clauses that could all be wiped out if the 49ers release him prior to April 1, 2015. In turn, the 49ers could eliminate $36 million of the guarantees if he plays the 2014 and 2015 seasons and is then released between April 2, 2015, and April 1, 2016.

In reality, Kaepernick's deal is seven one-year contracts that the 49ers can roll over or terminate at their pleasure. (ESPN's John Clayton analyzed the terms in his Sunday mailbag.) This structure compares with other major contracts this offseason, but it has now penetrated the previously insulated world of quarterback deals -- which brings us to our second point.

If Kaepernick develops into an elite quarterback, as the 49ers hope, this contract gives them full capacity to pay him below market value for the prime of his career. The deal calls for him to earn between $12.8 million and $17.4 million annually between 2015 and 2018 at a position where the best players currently are averaging more than $20 million.

Inside Slant: Colin Kaepernick ramifications - NFL Nation Blog - ESPN

So the Niners still have a lot of ability to keep building around him for the duration of his contract.
