If it weren't for the bullpen, they could be a .500 team. The pen must have cost the Cubs at least 20 games last year and it's looking like it will be more of the same this year.

Very happy to see the bats of Castro and Rizzo starting to come around.

This guy knows what's up. Fucking bullpen. Again.

Jeff was on the Dan Patrick show yesterday. Nice long interview.

Can Samardzija get some run support/bullpen help?

So I went out for a run after the top of the 8th thinking Cubs would win with a 5-2 lead. When I got back from my 30-40 minute or so jog the post game show was just about to go off the air but I had just enough time to catch 7-5. All can say is WTF! Poor Jeff, can't get a win these days even with great performances.

Strop walked the first batter in the 9th on 4 pitches. From that point on, it was meant to be. *sigh*

I actually think Strop is going to be a fine closer. He was just a mess today.

Should of known better than to take a Cubs win for granted but I thought it was going to rain and wanted to get my run in before the rain that has yet to come but may still be coming came (hope people can follow that).

I thought Strop would be alright. I never thought he'd be an elite closer but I thought he'd serviceable for sure, certainly not the biggest issue this team would be facing at least this season. I figured if the team ever gets a good core together then they can go out and get an elite closer but Strop would have been fine as a bandaid option until then.

Don't think there is any chance Samadrzija resigns unless the team throws a ridiculous amount of cash his way

The Cubs might trade him at the deadline. What is he 29? 30? As crazy as it sounds the Cubs don't want you that badly right now unless you are a real young talent or a guy that is a bargain that can have a good year and be traded for more young talent.

The asking price for Samadrza though would be very high.

Obviously as an ND and Cubs fan I don't want to see him go but they could definitely flip him for an MLB ready position player and a good young arm or 2.

I think he would definitely re-sign with the Cubs but I don't see how it's going to happen. I'll be sad to see him go. Eventually the Ricketts are going to have to spend some money though.

I think the plan is to get a solid young core of 5 high level position players and some good pitchers. Then the team will spend to fill in the holes.

I'll believe it when I see as Tom Ricketts seems to fit in well with Reinsdorf and Mckasky fullfillling the legacy of cheap Chicago franchise owners.

why any good starting pitcher would want to be a cub right now is behind me.

We've got some pieces. I'm actually pretty optimistic for the next 5 years. I feel like I can see the path now...

That said, today was an abomination.

At this point in time, I just want to see Castro and Rizzo hit above .300 and Olt hit 30 HRs.

Not sure either Castro or Rizzo will hit above .300, but I could see Rizzo with a .400 OBP. He's been really selective and is walking like crazy. I think that will eventually turn into more pitches to hit.

I think Olt will hit about 30 if he gets 145+ games. That trade might turn out to be pretty incredible.

unless castro hits a late season slump again he should be right around 300. Just going to have to keep him engaged when we are out of it in a month.
