He did one of the rivals camps down in Texas. I haven't been able to find any video (outside of an interview) or any analysis of how he did.

TJ's take on the Mckinney/Hendrix conversation.

[not staff, obviously, but throwing in a penny's thought here...]

Pete and Tim have some excellent thoughts above on any comparison here. Mostly agree with them.

I'll simply say that the major difference may lie in the fact that Hendrix would have been better in Diaco's zone-based preferred coverages (esp. C-2), while McKinney is a great and better fit for BVG's man-based preferred coverages (esp. C-1 and C-3). Both can run and hit and bring some punch and good range on the back-end. I do think McKinney has better Safety skills overall -- he's more of the "classic" style S in some sense.

McKinney has a real nice offer list and some other top programs were on the verge of getting in with him, too. But since we offered, staff felt pretty good here that we were the team to beat. I don't see that changing. He's a great fit as he should confirm over the BG weekend.

Very excited about this one. Now, it could get interesting at S (and overall DB) recruiting going forward.

Prister likes Hendrix more and Pete basically shared the thoughts of the board. Hendrix bigger and McKinney better at the rest.

The funny thing is I think A&M could be in for a rough year themselves. They lose a lot of firepower on offense and that defense has been atrocious. It will be interesting to follow.

Edit: Forget I said anything. Once a hitter always a hitter. He's best at safety.

No question here.

They have to go to South Carolina, Bama and Auburn but do get LSU at home.

Hopefully they aren't beat up enough to win the non-conference games against the always tough Lamar. Other OOC games are Rice, SMU and UL-Monroe.

Don't hammer me for this, just playing devil's advocate.

Anyone think he'd be a good WR? He's fast enough IMO, has good length, and is a bit on the light side but plenty big for WR. I love how he hits, but I also thought a lot of those hits were illegal.

To be clear, I like him more at safety, just wondering if anyone else thinks he'd be a better WR. Although we're being picky with WRs this year, so probably a dumb question.

Absolutely not. The fact that he doesn't currently play a large WR role on his teams tells you all you need to know about his upside there. From one 247 reporter, apparently he should've had even more INTs last year but dropped a bunch. And he's not exceptionally fluid on film (seems more than good enough for safety, but not quick-twitch cuts like you see from an elite WR).

Yeah - I took my post down right away. I'm just getting impatient and want Blake to have a target already, lol.

your post was bad and you should feel bad brah!

will be interesting if one of the 3 WR's ND takes will be one of "Blake's guys" i.e. a WR he has connected with on the camp circuit and one he is fighting his corner for with the coaches.

Yeah, that one was a heat check, lol.

I'm getting impatient (for no good reason) and want Blake to have a WR realize what an opportunity it will be with him, the OL, and it being ND.

I'd be very surprised if we didn't get 3 very good WRs in this class, with Boykin and a TX Slot WR looking likely. Hope we can get a potential superstar type to go with them.

My top 3 for most wanted receivers in

1. Equanimeous St. Brown

2. Carlos Strickland

3. KJ Hill

I hope we can just get one of them

Could be Humphrey as well.

I love Humphrey but he seems like a huge stretch at this point. Ive read multiple interviews where he doesnt mention ND at all. Its still early but seems unlikely.

Love to see Cooks grabbing the talent down here in TX. Kid has pretty good reviews locally, and sure seems to be strongly committed to Irish.
