Maybe George can get more determined to be a consistent back if he gets picked up by an NFL team, but if having a D1 scholarship wasn't enough then who knows if that can happen

Getting paid vs Not paying is a big difference.

I did not know that Stephon had those monster long arms. That's a ton for 35" arms. Then again I suppose that shouldn't surprise me too much, since his bull rush has been praised a ton.

Obviously these guys have been training for a month+ specifically for the combine, but the impressive strength and speed numbers all the ND guys are putting up are just another indication for me that Longo and Co. are doing something right. IMO, these numbers can not and are not just indicative of a month of training outside ND - they are the ND strength program and natural abilities augmented by specific training for the past month.

can you guys who have been following all this closely share your thoughts on what your hearing (not just limited to our ND guys) in terms of guys draft status falling/improving?

heard that clowney is having an awful week (dropping out of top 5)...lewan impoiving his stock (could crack top 10) and matthews is falling out of top 5.

what are you guys hearng? hows niklas doing? what are they saying about him? sounds like tj doing well has mayock said anything baout him?

Clowney's stock is fine. Again, all the hoopla with the negative are scouts/analysts concern over his work ethic. His 21 reps in the bench press reflect those concerns, but he's elite traits has always been his technique, and his ability to convert power-speed, and vice versa.

Lewan had a great combine. Showed more athleticism than most originally thought. He's still probably the third tackle behind Robinson and Matthews.

And Matthews performed great in his workout. All the "falling out of the top 5" is the potential scenario where the Top 3 QBs (Manziel, Bridgewater, and Bortles) could go in the Top 5 to QB needy teams. In such a scenario, blue chips prospects such as: Anthony Barr, Khalil Mack, Greg Robinson, Sammy Watkins and Jake Matthews could, in fact, slide (not fall, seeing as "fall assumes negativity) due to a "run" on QBs.

As for ND guys, Martin had a solid combine. Analysts, in particular former Giants C Shaun O'Hara, praised his technique and the quickness with his feet. Most scouts and analysts agree that he is a Top 20 pick. Our other OL, Chris Watt, did not participate feeling as though he wasn't 100% from his PCL tear recovery, thus didn't want to put on a bad workout. He'll do all the drills at ND Pro Day.

Niklas, depending on who you ask on IE, had a "mixed" workout. Some of his numbers, in particular, his 3 cone and shuttle resemble those of an OT, not a TE. However, he was a slight groin injury so his "poor" performance is somewhat warranted. He did catch the ball well in the on field drills.

Jones had a superb combine. He ran what most thought he would, a sub 4.5 (officially 4.48), caught the ball extremely well, and showed a smooth ability to come out of breaks. In any other draft, you're looking at a solid third round draft pick, but with the talent in this year's class of WRs, he's more in the fourth round range, that may last until the early fifth round, at the latest. I didn't catch what Mayock said, but he has in the past, talked about his ability to catch the ball, run great routes, and the fact that he put it all together his senior year.

Atkinson displayed his best trait; his speed. Ran a 4.48, which is still surprisingly slower than many of us thought he would run... He also posted great vertical and broad jump numbers; which shows lower body explosion.

Nix, Tuitt and Shembo will do on-field testing tomorrow, with Bennett Jackson rounding out the group, finishing on Tuesday.

Apparently Stephon has a fracture in his foot and won't be participating in the Combine. Crappy timing / situation, but hopefully he can bounce back soon.

Pro Day is March 20th, so he's got little under a month.

Crappy timing indeed. Probably the most anticipated ND 40 since he ran that fumble back against Navy.

EDIT: Has a Jones fracture. It is a six to eight week recovery after surgery, so he may need to set up his own pro day in April. Or he could try to schedule a pro day for NFL scouts before his surgery.

That's make you forget the 21 bench reps pretty quick! Unbelievable fast for guy weighing over 260lbs.

Atkinson's 40 is packed in with a ton of others, he needed to be low 4.4s to differentiate from the crowd. I think he needed 4.39 minimum (break the 4.4 mark) to get some "wow" factor and ensure he gets drafted.

Barr only benched 15 reps? WTF?

I was feeling good about TJ helping his stock until I looked at some of the other WR stats. Some impressive folks in there that it is hard to see TJ getting ahead of. I thought a sub 4.5 forty would give him a big boost but might be more a necessary number to compete. Someone is going to get a good deal on TJ though, I'd love to see him land on the Bears.

That Oregon State receiver is ridiculously fast. Should be interesting to see where he lands and how he is used.

Thing is about Atikson is he got hand timed at 4.39 and 4.41, so you have to keep that in the back of your mind. Also, his pro day times will be faster than that official.
