Man, I saw "ND," "UCLA," and "breaking " and thought that ESPN was reporting that ND had exposed UCLA's recruiting violations. Well, I can dream.

I guess since it's ND bball and not ND football it won't be a bash fest where they say UCLA wasn't really that good after all and how the calls were questionable.

was there as a high schooler. my dad, an ND prof, had bought season tix during Austin Carr's final season. lots of great memories during those early Digger years, as they played a great schedule. will be watching to relive the moment.

I'm pretty sure I've told this tale before but it's worth repeating.

I had the pleasure and honor to be a student at ND when we bookended UCLA's 88 game winning streak. I went to the game my freshman year but settled for watching the game my senior year on a 12" black and white TV.

The game came close to not being broadcast in South Bend. The local station had initially scheduled the airing of a high school game – Hoosier Mania and all that. They changed their mind at the last minute. I'm glad they did and I'm sure that the station was as well.

One of my roommates had two friends drive in, tickets in hand, from St. Norbert's College somewhere in Wisconsin. They were offered 50 bucks a pop for the tix while waiting in line. They took the money and ran. They came back to the duplex, drank some beer while we watched the game but decided to beat traffic by leaving before the game ended when it seemed to be a foregone conclusion that UCLA would win.

I still wonder how they reacted listening to the radio broadcast of the game.

Years later a high school and ND friend and classmate was at a cocktail party leading up to an Orlando Magic game. It was an event sponsored by the city (my friend was/is heavily involved in promoting Orlando) and broadcast personalities, including Bill Walton were there.

My friend spent some time chatting with Bill and others and then introduced himself as Jim -------, Notre Dame class of 1974. Walton scowled and walked away without saying another word. While I appreciate Bill Walton as a basketball player and Dead Head, Mr. Mushmouth can be a petty, ungracious sore loser.

I was born about 9 months after this game.... Just sayin....

May I take this opportunity to say "invective of your choosing."

You wet-behind-the-ears whippersnapper, you!!!

Wait a sec. Are you sayin' that your folks skipped the game to make whoopee??? I hope that your conception was a post game celebratory event ...
