My guess is that such a play takes too long to develop, putting our lovable statue under center in a bad situation without an escape route since he's not mobile, and is therefore a high risk for a turnover.

Yes considering the one hard shot he took gave him a neck strain. We must protect Reesus.

The pistol will help rees with the screen. He doesn't have to run a long developing screen either. A quick screen with two blockers releasing almost immediately may not be as deceiving or effective but it will slow down a rush and may pick up a chunk of yards on 2nd and long.

If not a screen, how about a draw once in a while.

A draw would work in a game like Air Force when we're passing at will. Up till this point in the season, however, many teams have been crowding the box and daring us to pass, so a draw wouldn't be very effective unless we actually get the defense on their heels. Works best when the defense is backed up after some decent passes.

Kid is a gamer. That's why I like Texas kids, they understand football and play with heart.

Not that our non Texas kids don't play with heart, but Cam does play with a lot of heart, and football is big time in Texas. Like...million dollar stadiums for their high schools. Texas, Florida, and Ohio are some of the craziest states for high school football.

People get tired of me saying it, but I think it's really hard to judge effort from the stands or when watching on TV.

comment was not a knock on other states' football players, more a tip to Cam. Coming out of HS he had all kinds of rushing records for a pretty good school in the talent rich DFW area. But his undersize got him few offers. Cooks and Kelly wisely offered, and we are better off for it.

Yeah, I think fans forget sometimes that Cam was a heck of a talent coming out of a tough football state, even if he wasn't considered an incredible physical specimen. So much of college football is heart though, and not always about having a team with the best athletes. How else do teams get upsets every Saturday? If playing RB was all about size/speed, then we'd be starting GA III and Bryant probably, but GA III hasn't panned out as an every down back and Bryant has been injured or didn't have the nuances down yet. Give me Cam type players every day of the week.

Ive been calling it for awhile now. He will be the workhorse runningback.

When I say he will win the job, I firmly believe he will based on the fact he is shifty, catches really well out of the backfield & and is a hardnosed player. Now is he gonna wow us and show NFL potential? probably not. But the fact that I've read things such as a small slow white boy & that he is the next coming of Rudy; really show that alot of people on this board are really underestimating this kid.

Guess who lead the team in rushing? Not tooting my own horn or anything. :)

I knew more than a month ago.

I think he will be one of the captains next season.

My first reaction was that this would never happen, but the more I think about, we don't have many guys who jump out as sure-fire captains

QB: maybe Golson if he takes a big leadership step forward
RB: maybe Cam as you said
TE/WR: Daniels seems like a no, and I would be surprised if Niklas were chosen
OL: Lombard maybe?
D-line: Tuitt maybe if he gets more serious
LB: no one who screams captain, Jaylon is too young?
CB/S: we should be starting Russel, Luke, Redfield, Shumate--all too young

I think Russel could be a captain. He will be going on his third year starting and will be a junior. So he will have plenty of experience to be a captain.

I would be on board with this, but who was the last non-senior captain?

I agree, Russell could be a captain imo. The kid has the desire to be the best, and it translates on the field. Tuitt should be there too, but I'm not sure he wants the responsibility. Nix didn't want it either, a bit odd really. I can't think of anyone else that would qualify as a captain on defense next year than Russell. Ishaaq? I think Russell has more starts. Jaylon is young, his time will come. Grace has only played half a season. Day's only going to be a Junior and hasn't played a full season yet. JJ has less than half a season. Farley is probably the only other player with a similar number of starts to Russell, I don't think he's a captain though.

Offensively I would say Lombard or DD. Hopefully DD has his head on straight next season. At times he looks like an AA, and other times he's not focused. Cam would get my vote for captain too.

gonna be hard to pick out captains, as shallow as the leadership pool was this year I think next year could be worse.
I would say there will be two maximum.

The leadership pool will actually, by summer camp be deeper than this year, in my opinion.

But you are right, the senior class will be thin at providing it. Cam McD is the kind of guy the coaches will like; beyond that, KRussel does appear to be taking a leadership role. Don't be surprised if Ishaq and Christian take a step forward . . . but what the hail do any of us know!
