That might be a nice puff piece, but they even note in that movie that there were a lot of issues. If it was so great… they would have stayed.

This article gives more insight:

At Fenway, one goal post was positioned on the third-base line with the other goal post in front of the bleachers in right field. A temporary grandstand seating about 5,000 was assembled in front of the left-field Green Monster.

There was only about eight feet separating the first row of the Green Monster grandstand and the players. As players described in the coming book, “Fenway Park: A Salute to the Coolest, Cruelest, Longest-Running Baseball Park in America,” fans would tap a player on the shoulder and ask questions.

But little about the 1960s Patriots fits the orderly and self-sufficient modern-day image of pro football.

It's okay, I'll meet you on Landsdowne Street in two years, buy you a Sam Adams, and you can admit that "this is the most beautiful sight these eyes have ever seen."

I've been. It's a great stadium and full of history. It's just going to make a terrible location for a football game. It was terrible in the 1960's with half the fans. So i'm not sure why everyone thinks the same stadium will be better now?

I'll happily pound some Sam Adams with ya, though.

My only disappointment is that they're going to be wearing some nasty Shamrock jerseys in the hallowed hall of sport.

Question… when they played Patriots games there they removed seats. Is that what has to happen to fit the field into the stadium?

If so… the capacity of Fenway is only 37,400 people as it is. I hope TV revenue, merchandise, etc make up for the 7,100 seats we lose if we just played this game in BC's crappy field. Why not have this in Foxborough in a real football stadium with 68,756 seats, including 6,000 club seats and 87 luxury suites?

I think it's the opposite, isn't it? I believe they ADDED seats. I know Yankee Stadium has a higher "football capacity" than "baseball capacity" because field level seats can be added on the sidelines.

Lol Jack just described this as an "opportunity" to have a record-breaking ticket price.

You're right. But I don't think they can add them the way they did before. It put the fans right up against the players. I don't see that being possible post 911 security.

One note on Yankee Stadium… it was built with a design capable of holding football games. Fenway was not built with that intent.

Did you watch the press conference just now? (Not being a smart ass, really wondering if you caught it). Jack said they drove the Fenway people crazy staking the field and chalking the lines to make sure they didn't have any issues. He described it as "tight," but that they wouldn't do it if there was any concern at all about player safety.

I didn't, but I will.

Both AD's, BIG conference officials and stadium employees all did the same for Wrigley. They felt so confident that they scheduled five years of games there. Even with all of that assurance… they still ended up playing the game in one direction and canceling future games.

I hope it works… I just hope it doesn't flop and we are the butt of media jokes again. No one cared when it was Northwestern… but a disaster game involving Notre Dame is a big deal.

ND is probably as tight as it gets in all the NCAA. There is no room in that endzone.

Because it's hardly a historic venue.

Soccer fields are 100 meters because they use their commie measuring system.

The goals are where the field goal posts are. More than enough room at Fenway.

You're not entirely wrong.

Not all pitches are the same size, though the preferred size for many professional teams' stadiums is 105 by 68 metres (115 yd × 74 yd) with an area of 7,140 square metres (1.76 acres).

The two goal lines must be between 45 and 90 m (50 and 100 yd) and be the same length. The two touch lines must also be of the same length, and be between 90 and 120 m (100 and 130 yd) in length.

Today!?

Holy hell I'm giddy.

ApFKlwmCEAEdSZ5.jpg:large

That photo looks like my beloved Glasgow Celtic vs Sporting CP . It will be tight . My father and uncles recall the Boston Patriots with Gino Cappelletti kicking field goals into the bull pen .

It will be a hit . Love to see the phony , gold tshirt wearing " super fans " getting spanked by the Irish .

Oh and there will be no tailgating .

Anybody notice the announcers talking about Daniels dropping that TD pass because he may have been worried about hitting the wall?

This field was built with having occasional football games being played in mind...
