hmmm

so we definitely take back lombard, but who else am i missing for 5th years?

moore
hendrix
collinsworth

Not a single one of those guys is a certainty to come back, IMO.

Also, I think the math is a little fuzzy because there are a lot of situations we don't have clarity on. First, we're all assuming Tuitt back right now. We're at 19 commits without McKenzie. Assume McKenzie or Nelson would give you 20... which is a pretty safe bet. Pencil in Luatua? 21.

By my estimation the staff would take AT LEAST 3 more guys. I think 24 is the floor. I expect us to aim for up to 26. I think (or at least hope) we take both Sykes and Morgan. That's 23. Then you're looking at Hill/Quick/Hendrix as really decent bets. I have no idea how hard we're recruiting Hendrix, or how Hill fits in with Yeargin on board still. And then you're looking at outside chances with guys like Elam.

And then you have to start looking at decommits, medicals, transfers, etc. that might happen... and you also have to consider the fact that with coaching changes stuff can get wild. This will undoubtedly be the craziest year of high profile decommits if/when Saban leaves Alabama for Texas.

yea looking at the roster i think collinsworth is the odd man out at this point. him returning depends on who we sign and perhaps even if tuitt decides to stay for his senior year.

I don't think Hendrix helped his cause for a fifth year. Plus Zaire has a year under his belt.

I hate to be that guy, but what does the numbers situation look like right now? It seems like there are an odd amount of guys for so few scholarships available.

Morgan
Sykes
Hendrix
Quick
Luatua

Hill?
Schultz?
Elam?

I take Morgan over ever single one of those guys. He is a guy you take no matter what IMO, even if it means no 5th year for a guy like Collinsworth.

sorry i meant the next guy that doesn't get asked back after lombard and possibly moore.

meaning if we invite 3 back he'd be the 3rd.

my bad.

Either A) Morgan is a silent to ND and Ole Miss knows this so they moved on. B) Ole Miss is a silent to Ole Miss, and this 247 poster doesn't know that, so when he was told 'we're full', he didn't think that Morgan was part of the reason they're full. C) This guy is somehow misinformed. Or D) Ole Miss somehow had this recent commit higher on the board than Morgan. Certainly possible (I know nothing about him) but I have a hard time believing Morgan doesn't have a spot on Ole Miss.

Any of these are possible, but my money would be on B or C.

Agree. If any we have 1-2 5 th yr guys...I also see a few transfers coming...no info just guys getting passed by that want to play.

We have plenty of room yet....back the truck up. This is what it feels like having 85! Love it

i think you gotta bring back Collinsworth, the guy started for like half the season, its not like he has never contributed anything.

But Redfield will be playing much more next year, and Baratti would be back as well, who some thought would start if healthy this year.

It depends on who's the recruit that you'd pass on for Collinsworth. If everyone's committed besides a 3-star type who wants on board, you might bring Collinsworth back. If everyone's committed besides a Matt Elam or Nyles Morgan, Collinsworth doesn't come back IMO.

Ole Miss must have exceeded their allotted budget for linebackers. Or maybe they're moving that money to a different position.

why? he isn't near the athlete that we have in the waiting....redfield will have another year of learning to get the mental aspect down and let's face it....he wasn't a game changer(besides int in stanford game)...he was a force on special teams when he wasn't playing much as a safety but that role has gone...so he doesn't provide anything that we don't currently have in others...leadership? but in a position of a log jam....cut ties and wish him well

I would probably say that Moore and Lombard are locks to come back. But then again, would you reather have Sykes for 4-5 years or Moore for one? I'd lean Sykes there.

I hope they don't take Nelson until January, should a spot be available.

In full agreement there. Are any of these guys aiming to EE anywhere? That could force hands.

And then you have to start looking at decommits, medicals, transfers, etc. that might happen... and you also have to consider the fact that with coaching changes stuff can get wild. This will undoubtedly be the craziest year of high profile decommits if/when Saban leaves Alabama for Texas.

Alabama already lost a stud CB to Auburn yesterday.

This might be a topic for another thread, but if someone has a simple answer here then it would save the trouble:

What is stopping someone like Collinsworth (or any 5th year who might not be offered a scholarship) from enrolling in graduate school and being a "walk-on?" Is it against NCAA rules for a player to go from schollie to walk-on? If they have the money (I'm assuming the Collinsworths do), and the player thinks he can be a contributor and would rather stay for a 5th year than transfer to a MAC school or stop playing, then is there any rule stopping him from doing this?

And are we giving up on JuJu? I didn't see his name mentioned anywhere above.

would welcome the commitment but have yet to get the feeling he himself really wants to be at ND.

Coach Freeze is no longer visiting him this week. Franklin and Kelly are. Seems this is more than just "sources" saying they are full, looks like they actually are.
