I'm just not sure why he is complaining... He got extra money to get better stuff. What's the beef lol. The whole thing doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

If you're a D1 athlete and you're on a full ride and you live a lavish lifestyle that makes you think the free ride and all of the other benefits aren't enough, take out a student loan like any other student would. This argument that they're going hungry and can't afford rent is a joke. If they're gambling, buying cars/rims, club money, etc., it's not someone else's fault that you're short on cash when it comes to refill the refrigerator.

I lived with a D1 athlete in college who had a full ride to Marquette. The NCAA benefits don't stop at free tuition, they get tons of stuff and are well taken care of. They get travel money every time they the step off of campus for a sports-related event, insurance coverage, and much more.

There are over 450,000 student-athletes across all sports according to the NCAA.

Amazingly, the only ones struggling, without food in their fridge, are the group of players who are the most taken care of, most pampered group of any sport, football players.

If a star running back at an SEC university can barely put food in his stomach, I'd hate to think how that DIII soccer player, paying at least partial tuition, is fairing.

Up until a few years ago there was a loop hole in the Michigan welfare system (actually there are still many but thats a different matter) where college students were eligible for food stamps and housing help. I knew someone who attended a local university and his school hours counted as his 'work' hours, so employment wasn't necessary. He lived in a government housing complex close to the university, which was mainly full of single moms, free. He also got a large amount of food stamps. He may or may not have received cash assistance, I can't recall. He wasn't an athlete, he was just crafty with the system.

Pretty one sided argument here. Not much pity for these guys. What's worse is that he makes a lot of money now. Why does he even feel the need to come out and whine? SMH!

All this stuff is great, but with the NCAA, it's too much of a flip of the coin. North Carolina was dirrrrrrrrty, and they basically got away with it. USC was dirty (not as bad as UNC and OSU IMO), and they got hammered. PSU gets hammered, but OSU gets basically a slap on the wrist all things considered. So did Oregon. Miami is dirtier than all of those schools, and I wouldn't be surprised if they get a slap on the wrist aside from the 2 missed bowl games their crappy teams didn't go to.

I won't say the NCAA won't do anything, because we have no idea what they'll do. Nobody ever does. But gun to my head, considering it's the SEC, I say nothing bad happens to them at all.
IMO the reason that nothing might not happen to the SEC and other Big conferences is because now most them are starting to get there own networks which are backed by the Major networks and thier affiliates, so it wouldn't supprise me if some of the AD's have thrown the suggestion around to just leave the NC2A and do thier own thing, I mean with t.v. money there's obviously tons of sponsors and with the SEC they have made a pitch to have more than one network because Mike Slive understand that along with sports you also have regular scheduled programing ( regular t.v.shows) my point is guys this Bigger than just football. You control the networks you control your destiny or whatever you want to call it..............
NC WHO ?????

Personally I don't care if these kids recieved money and other fringe benefits from boosters or non boosters, it doesn't have anything to do with blocking, tackling, and execution of the scheme, would be saying the same thing if we would've lost to Pitt last year ?
look I don't want anybody to hand me anything because somebody got paid, that's out of my control but what I do know is that to beat the Alabamas,Florida's ( although they're having an awful year ) and other high profile, socalled elite teams, we have to recruit better, coach better ( although I think Brain Kelly is doing a damn good job compaired to what we had since Coach Holtz left ) and execute better i.e blocking and tackling. So if the NC-2A decides to come down on Alabama good for them and if they don't good for them I mean if they do what do we get ? a crystal trophie ? whoopie because I'm, sure as hell NC-2A isn't going to tell the Red Elephant to hand over the cash also ...I mean really ? because at the end of day we still got our asses handed to us boosters or no boosters
Guys I'd rather win it on the field whether they socalled cheated or not.

Teams cheat for a reason.

Do you think a kid who misses a sack because he was blocked in the back is a lack of executiuon?

Do you think the Red Sox buy so many quality reserves because they just have money laying around?

Do you think the Patriots assign mandatory reading and try to ensure the intellectual growth of their players?

The reason those college teams pay players is for a compeititve advantage. The reason they let kids slide by academically is for competitive advantage. Getting and keeping key recruits, keeping your rosters maxed out so you can overcome injuries, and getting to spend more time and energy on football because academics are a joke, all help you win.

That is why those NCAA standards are there. If they were not, people would race to the bottom for the competitive advantage that it affords. That may be what people want now, but that was not the deal. It may be fine to have no salaray cap like MLB, but that is the deal in the NFL. Breaking those rules afford you an unfair advantage.

I love how it's always so dumpster fire SEC program that this comes out on... as if the winning programs just stop cheating once they start beating up on the bottom feeding, wild west programs...

Every time I see this thread pop up I think it could just as well be titled "Presents at Christmas" or "Candy on Halloween" or "Easter eggs on Easter" or "Prayers at the Vatican" or, well you get the point. And somewhat on topic, that Asshat AD at Auburn saying that the winner of the $EC title game should be in the Nat'l Title game in part because the conference has won seven straight National Titles flat out infuriates me.

NAvigation getting more difficult in Colorado.....

Colorado officials think a difference of one-hundredth of a mile will be enough to stop thieves from stealing the mile marker 420 sign along Interstate 70.

Amy Ford of the Colorado Department of Transportation says the "MILE 420" sign near Stratton was stolen for the last time sometime in the last year, and officials replaced it with a sign that says "MILE 419.99."

Jarvis Moss goes back to school, gets arrested for weed - SBNation.com

One of five former Gators back in Gainesville, FL this spring taking classes in pursuit of their college degree, defensive end Jarvis Moss saw his semester start off on the wrong foot. Moss late Monday night was arrested and charged with a felony for tampering with evidence as well as a misdemeanor for possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis after he was stopped near 900 NW 7th Ave in Gainesville. He was initially pulled over for running a stop sign, but the arresting officer smelled "a strong odor of ‘fresh' cannabis coming from the vehicle" and "observed the defendant chewing intently." Upon asking Moss to open his mouth, he identified "large pieces of cannabis ... that he was trying to swallow." Additionally, according to the police report, Moss "denied eating cannabis" after being read his Miranda rights but "did admit to smoking cannabis earlier."
