If you're a D1 athlete and you're on a full ride and you live a lavish lifestyle that makes you think the free ride and all of the other benefits aren't enough, take out a student loan like any other student would. This argument that they're going hungry and can't afford rent is a joke. If they're gambling, buying cars/rims, club money, etc., it's not someone else's fault that you're short on cash when it comes to refill the refrigerator.
I lived with a D1 athlete in college who had a full ride to Marquette. The NCAA benefits don't stop at free tuition, they get tons of stuff and are well taken care of. They get travel money every time they the step off of campus for a sports-related event, insurance coverage, and much more.
There are over 450,000 student-athletes across all sports according to the NCAA.
Amazingly, the only ones struggling, without food in their fridge, are the group of players who are the most taken care of, most pampered group of any sport, football players.
If a star running back at an SEC university can barely put food in his stomach, I'd hate to think how that DIII soccer player, paying at least partial tuition, is fairing.
Well so was Cam Newton....correction Cam was paid for his services and won a National Championship, so business as usual in the SEC
IMO the reason that nothing might not happen to the SEC and other Big conferences is because now most them are starting to get there own networks which are backed by the Major networks and thier affiliates, so it wouldn't supprise me if some of the AD's have thrown the suggestion around to just leave the NC2A and do thier own thing, I mean with t.v. money there's obviously tons of sponsors and with the SEC they have made a pitch to have more than one network because Mike Slive understand that along with sports you also have regular scheduled programing ( regular t.v.shows) my point is guys this Bigger than just football. You control the networks you control your destiny or whatever you want to call it..............All this stuff is great, but with the NCAA, it's too much of a flip of the coin. North Carolina was dirrrrrrrrty, and they basically got away with it. USC was dirty (not as bad as UNC and OSU IMO), and they got hammered. PSU gets hammered, but OSU gets basically a slap on the wrist all things considered. So did Oregon. Miami is dirtier than all of those schools, and I wouldn't be surprised if they get a slap on the wrist aside from the 2 missed bowl games their crappy teams didn't go to.
I won't say the NCAA won't do anything, because we have no idea what they'll do. Nobody ever does. But gun to my head, considering it's the SEC, I say nothing bad happens to them at all.
Personally I don't care if these kids recieved money and other fringe benefits from boosters or non boosters, it doesn't have anything to do with blocking, tackling, and execution of the scheme, would be saying the same thing if we would've lost to Pitt last year ?
look I don't want anybody to hand me anything because somebody got paid, that's out of my control but what I do know is that to beat the Alabamas,Florida's ( although they're having an awful year ) and other high profile, socalled elite teams, we have to recruit better, coach better ( although I think Brain Kelly is doing a damn good job compaired to what we had since Coach Holtz left ) and execute better i.e blocking and tackling. So if the NC-2A decides to come down on Alabama good for them and if they don't good for them I mean if they do what do we get ? a crystal trophie ? whoopie because I'm, sure as hell NC-2A isn't going to tell the Red Elephant to hand over the cash also ...I mean really ? because at the end of day we still got our asses handed to us boosters or no boosters
Guys I'd rather win it on the field whether they socalled cheated or not.

I wonder if his proclivity for pot contributed to his decision not to attend ND?
If you're Arian, you've got to be wondering how the hell this happened when all you did was "hang out" with this chick between practices.
