Really thoughtful. To answer the question of your eval, his senior year doesn't resemble his junior year much. Again a big improvement. Also, DeShone owns the CCHS team from the sideline, and onto the field. Both Zaire and Kizer have the leadership "it," which is really important when you are chasing what they are.

I agree with you about his footspeed and agility.

Let me ask you, I have seen some of the Whitfield-Golson feedback, and there are some quotes about tremendous improvement in 40 times. Also, some quotes about running like a football player not a basketball player. Can you explain this?

Its possible he hasn't shown his full ability when it comes to arm strength because of that. I don't think arm strength is at that point where its insufficient, but just noting that probably not a Hendrix fastball and once he has some time in the weight room it should improve. He's a twig right now.

IDK about the straight line speed aspect of it. Hendrix is probably faster straight line. Coming out he ran a 4.7 40 while Kizer ran a 4.9 40. Straight line speed for a QB is a useless stat mostly though. Very rarely do you see a QB break one free and need that. Also agree that with training he very well can improve.

Geez...4.9? That's O-Line Slow. I want a re-do.

This 4.9 was a Opening/Elite 11 thing. I think it is far from the two tenths of a second head start most high school stars get! I don't believe it is accurate. I have watched this kid play a number of games against reasonably fast teams and he is lightening by comparison. So I am thinking this is a slow time reported, with a faster time by omission.

I think he looks like a young dan marino with wheels like the rocket.

Maybe I should've used italics

This could be a couple things. One it could be working on his form running and technique. This is not usually done in bball traind athletes as much because they are more about quick burst and not longer distance running compared to a football player.
Second when discussing pure 40 time I could see them working on the start of it. This is where players can make or gain a ton of ton. It measures explosion out of a stance but a stance that many do not use. That is why I do not lean on 40 times when reviewing. I watch running technique and how they compare to quality opponents with speed. Always looking for guys who do not caught from behind.

Good post and I agree. 40 times are a lot about technique and those coaches that do that will tell you that. For HS players watching tape is a better way to judge speed since very few are gonna have the proper training. Kizer isn't a 4.9, IMO but he's definitely not gonna be sub 4.7. He's going to be fast enough to keep defenses honest and pick up first downs on broken plays. What he's not going to be is Marcus Mariota and that's fine. He is a big physical kid that has a big time arm that needs to work on accuracy. His upside is great but he needs refining which is perfect because he'll have that time.

What's with the personal attacks? I make a comment Not attacking the recruit but making an observation. Asking for more footage and Im called an idiot?

The overall skin thickness on this site has really thinned.

You could have asked for more recent highlights or even said that you were unimpressed by his Junior highlights and asked if anyone had some more recent highlights of his, first you compared him to someone who hasn't exactly lived up to his hype and secondly you compared him to someone who is nothing like him.

I used JR year film and camp film from the summer. There was a marked improvement between the two. You could see day by day improvement. Then also keeping up with him during the season. He has really grown.
I use this to follow him.

Big game right now against 10-1 Tiffin Columbian. Kizer is already taking over apparently.

Kizer and TCC tore it up tonight, 42-13. Kizer threw two INTs, for a total of just five on the year.

tore it up may be a bit of an overstatement...This was a very close game going into the 4th when Central Catholic just wore them down. Columbian is a blue collar hard nosed team. Gave TCC probably one of if not it's toughest game of the year to this point.

on another note TCC's head coach Dempsey is sooooooo arrogant. i hope deshone's nothing like him.

It was as close as 21-13 in the third. The quarter ended 28-13. Within a couple of minutes of the fourth beginning it was 35-13.

DeShone carried them on his back in the early going.

The first three games including Whitmer, (21-14) were the closest of the year; I think Warren de la Salle was in there as was Southview.

Tiffin was tough, they would have beaten most of the high school teams we speak of here. However it looked as if they were playing the game close to hang in until the end. I don't know many that think it was a back and forth affair.

Dempsey is just a kid led to the dark side by having the power. We will see how his teams look in a couple of years (when he doesn't have it all). Several other coaches in the area have had great groups of kids, and don't any longer. They are much nicer guys now. I understand your point R2!

Last night he was 10/17 for 189 yards with 2 TD and 2 INT's with 1 rushing TD

so his season stats are 27 TD 4 INT and 6 rushing TD's....not sure about yards passing and completion pct.

With the link to the Elite 11 link Ironman provided he's currently at:

201/124 - 61.6%
2,544 yards passing

Great job Philly!

Please note throughout the season how many plays are consecutive or from the same drive. (DeShone was pulled for most of the second half in a number of games.) But is about his big play constitution. When you watch a game, you feel like he takes the team on his back, without being a hog. Look at the number of plays he extends, particularly until a receiver is open for a long ball. He uses feet, his arm and his hips to control defensive players all over the field, as well as I have seen in high school. What do you think?

Central plays at BGSU next Friday in a regional final game. Should be a high scoring game against Clyde. I'm going to try to go.
