This morning I got stuck behind this FedEx van going 15 mph UNDER the speed limit (it was a 45 mph zone). He put on his turn signal and slowed down, just to take his turn signal off and speed up once he had realized he didn't have the right street. He did this not once, not twice, but THREE freagin' times. On the third time, there was a passing lane on the right, so I went in it to get around him, thinking he had finally gotten his right street. But then he realized he had the wrong street again and sped up and almost hit me as I was trying to get around him. Then he honked AT ME!

Um, hi guy, *YOU* were the one with your turn signal on and almost to a complete stop in the middle of the road. I was just using the short passing lane to get around you. It is there for just that reason - for people trying to get around people who are turning. So don't you honk at ME because you DON'T KNOW WHERE YOU'RE GOING.

Additionally, after the THIRD TIME of mistaking a turn, you officially don't know where you're going - do us ALL a favor and pull over on the side of the road and consult a map instead of going 15 mph under the speed limit and consistently signaling to turn and then NOT turning. That's dangerous!

Or the UPS guy that suddenly stops in the middle of the street and hops out to deliver a package when there is a perfectly good driveway to pull in.

I work in a restaurant and it always annoys me when people come in and drop the "it's my birthday/anniversary/other special occasion" line. And I just know they are expecting something for free. Come on, people. Does everyone have to cough up the goodies just because it's your special day? It may not seem like much, but in a high volume restaurant, those comped desserts or drinks add up.

Now, it was my mother's birthday the other day, and I took her out for lunch. It was a last second thing, so I was rather hungover and not thinking clearly. So when the server comes over to greet us I mentioned that it was my mother's birthday. I was just making polite conversation because our waitress was pretty talkative. Then it occurred to me what I had done. Sure enough, after the meal, the staff comes out signing and clapping with a candle in a dessert. My family HATES that kind of stuff, being the center of obnoxious attention. But we were appreciative of the gesture. So I realized that I had unintentionally become one of those people, dropping my little hints so I could get free sh*t. I left an extra large tip in hope of making up for my transgression.

Funny that you mention this. I'm one of those people who don't give a sh¡t about birthdays or anniversaries – which might help explain why I'm divorced.

However, back in 1996 I helped in planning my parents' 50th anniversary. We made reservations at my father's favorite restaurant; one that he'd "supported" since the day it opened some 30 years before. There were at least 20 of us so they reserved and outfitted a special room for us. There were no "freebies" but the staff took good care of us and were rewarded handsomely. They may have "thrown in" a cake or three as a note of appreciation.

After the meal and before dessert he was told that he couldn't smoke his cigar – a very expensive one I'd given him – in the restaurant. My brother rolled him (he was wheelchair bound at that point) to the attached tavern to have his smoke. Fifteen minutes later my brother-in-law left the table to find out was taking so long. Fifteen minutes after that I went to find out what was holding up the three of them.

I found the three of them drinking Cognac and smoking cigars. The Old Man was holding court surrounded by young folk listening to his stories and buying him drinks. I hadn't seen him smile that broadly in a long while.

Sorry for the ramble.

I'm assuming what grinds your gears was the fact that they didn't come and get you to enjoy the cognac and smokes? lol

Upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1 and my wireless adapter stops working.

If any of you run into this, delete the wireless connection and then do a "find networks".

What really grinds my gears?

People that say Johnny Manziel is a sophomore and Jameis Winston is a freshman.

No, Manziel is a junior and Winston is a sophomore with 4 years of eligibility left.

They both had a full year in a college environment to learn how to play college ball.

My children aging so I can't take 'candy tax' from them after trick or treating as they no longer go. Then I gotta buy my own

When a checkout clerk says "next in line please" and some douche in the back of the line races forward.

When there's been a sign that says "Lane ending, merge right" and the same guy zips past 16 cars to get up to the spot when he's forced to merge.

The worst kind of person. I'll make sure he doesn't get over and kindly give him (or her) the finger as I roll by....

When I say just take a small handful to a group of trick or treaters who happen to be my neighbors and some little d*ckhead takes half of the candy while his parents just laugh. Oh, and no thank you or anything. I was ready to egg their house

I found this to be a problem in the past for me as well so now I just solved the problem by handing a piece of candy to each kid myself.

Honestly, roads like this are designed by Transportation engineers to include the flow of both lanes. So that person is technically not doing anything wrong. Both lanes are designed to be carrying max flow at the point of merging. So both lanes should be full unless there are turnoffs or other things preventing the lane from filling up.

If its a construction zone or accident then its a bit different.

I cannot stand the word Frosh when describing a first year college player/student. Just say freshman, pinhead.

I've been an inherent of "The Zipper Merge" All of my many, many (many) years driving when traffic is entering traffic flowing from ten to thirty MPH from an entrance ramp. It's simple courtesy and a way to spread the frustration at a lower road rage flash point. Lane closure, whether by design, construction or accident are, essentially and logically, the same. The MN Department of Transportation has even broadcast Public Service Announcements ( Zipper Merge ) urging drivers to use all available lanes until the pinch point.

This doesn't mean that I don't side with those who hate the "lane ending" jumpers. P-isses me off no end! I've often, when in the lane to be closing, put on my turn signal to merge and then taken my sweet time, passing up reasonable openings, simply to thwart and frustrate aggressive drivers behind me.

By doing that, you are also being an aggressive driver by imposing your will on others around you. Be courteous. Fill the lanes and play nice. :)
