I just heard on Mike and Mike the committee members:

Jeff Long – Current AD at Arkansas, had staffing positions at Rice, Duke, and NC State before joining Bo Schembechler at Michigan. Graduated from Ohio Wesleyan.

Barry Alverez – Long time Wisconsin Badger coach and current AD, graduated from Nebraska, was assistant coach at Iowa and Notre Dame before becoming head coach at Wisconsin.

Michael Gould – Lifetime Air Force ties, from undergrad all of the way to being the Super Intendant of their sports department.

Pat Haden – Current USC AD, attended USC for school, former NBC broadcaster.

Tom Jernstedt – Basically has been an Administrator for NCAA for 30 years.

Oliver Luck – Graduated from West Virginia and also Texas, current AD at West Virginia

Archie Manning – Graduated from Mississippi, Worked for CBS as broadcaster, probably a strong SEC bias considering him and both Archie and Peyton played in SEC.

Tom OsbornNebraska boy since birth. Former head coach for ~ 20 years. Stepped down from being Nebraska AD last year.

Dan Radakovich – Has been an AD or assistant AD at South Carolina, LSU, Georgia, and now Clemson. Graduated from Miami.

Condoleezza Rice – Alum from University of Denver and also Notre Dame. Made a living in politics and was the 66th Secretary of State.

Mike Tranghese – Helped created the Big East and was commissioner until 2009.

Steve Weisberg - Writer and reporter for USA Today sports for over 20 years, was named ’10 most powerful people in sports’ in 2007.

Ty Willingham – Graduated from Michigan State, former head coach at Stanford, Notre Dame, and Washington, with assistant jobs at MSU, Central Michigan, NC State, and Rice.

All things considered, I think they did a pretty good job with that committee.

Why is Rice even on the list?

Just wondering.

Dad was a football coach, she's a big sports fan, she's said before that her dream job is to be the NFL commissioner, she's obviously qualified from the standpoint of bringing different viewpoints together to agree, she also doesn't have an economic interest. Lastly (real talk time), she helps break up the "boys club" feeling by being a woman.

I don't understand having people currently on university payrolls as part of the selection committee.

agreed. even if your resume leans a certain way, like archie manning, he doesnt have a real horse in the race--just a bit of a money trail.

None of that qualifies her in my book.

I'm a big football fan. My uncle is a current high schoool coach at a powerhouse in San Antonio. I'm a sports fan. My dream job is to also, be commish one day. I have a different view point. And I have zero economic interest...

I just don't see it. I mean, everything you just listed could be the story of a ton of people.

im not worried about who they pick on this.
they could even have irishpat on there.

for Notre Dame, its really quite simple:
go undefeated regular season and we'll be in the Final Four.

Lose one game, and we wont make it anyway- no matter who is on that committee.

so i could care less about any of this.

right wrong or indifferent, this is the price we will pay for being independent, and not having that conference championship game.

i have no probelm with it-its just the way it is for us.

Good point.

And regardless if it's a playoff or the BCS....someone will ALWAYS feel left out. Playoff doesnt' solve anything, really.

I think you'll be OK with one loss (depending on the loss) if you have an elite SOS, which we will have every year.

Also, I expect this to be expanded from 4 teams to 8 very shortly after, which obviously allows for more 'error' on a team.

I know I'm in the minority but I really hope it isn't expanded anytime soon. 8 teams would diminish the regular season and it would make the conference championship games basically meaningless.

Can't say I agree with you. Last year was a perfect example. For the sake of argument, let's say ND falls just short of the comeback against Pitt and loses that game. You think they wouldn't be in the top four? I think ND is in that playoff with bama, Oregon and either Georgia or TAM. Maybe I'm wrong.

except for the former secretary of state part. I think the idea is that she can get people to come to an agreement and i'm sure she's profoundly more adept at this than you or me.

This is it. The other stuff is just showing that she has an understanding of the medium. Her expertise is taking a bunch of people with different objectives, biases, and pressures, and getting them to all come together to an agreement.

If she can convince the SEC folks that they shouldn't get 3/4 spots, she'll have worked a miracle in my book.

unfortunately i think we would have plummetted out of the top 10 if we had lost to pitt.

i think the one and only way we would EVER make the final 4 with one loss is if the team we lost to was also in the top 4....i just cant see a way for that to happen mathmatetically.

She is also a female minority. Probably the best they could possibly do.

And I know Ty is a minority as well, but let's be honest, he's gonna be way to busy on that par 4 too give a **** about this committee.

I'd bet she could out football or golf "sports knowledge talk" most men in general to include the majority of that committee.

What does Sec of state have to do with picking teams for a CFB playoff?

(but I get your point about her being a "mediator" if you will)

Anytime a female (or her male friends) cliam she knows anything about sports...turns out to be as clueless as they come when it comes to sports knowledge.

But I'll give her the benefit of the doubt and see what happens
